Video: Chris Christie destroys reporter for calling him confrontational

posted at 9:08 pm on May 13, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via Ace. Dude, I’m starting to think this might be the guy. A solid first term, then reelection in 2014, and suddenly the wide-open 2016 primaries are right around the corner…

Elsewhere today, thanks to Christie’s support, the Jersey state senate pushed through a school voucher bill over the objections of the teachers union. Quote: “Sen. Raymond J. Lesniak, D-Union, the committee chairman, then ordered the hearing held on the Annex steps in front of hundreds of cheering private-school students who had been bused in to rally for the measure.”

Gov Christie calls S-L columnist thin-skinned for inquiring about his 'confrontational tone'

Christie says more in one sentence than Obam says in a twenty minute speech

The end of the video is the best, when Christie says:

” ‘Honest and refreshing.’ Maybe we could see that in your paper tomorrow.”

Exactly.

Politics aside, when it comes to yakking, Obama tries to be YES while Christi is content to forsake the glory, sell it straight and just be the RAMONES.

Oh, wait. Which of those two bands is in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame again?

Tuning Spork on May 14, 2010 at 5:04 AM

THIS is how reporters are to be treated. Right here, this is the GOVERNATOR! Reporters are to be treated like little beeatches, exposed for their whininess, shown to be leftists, refuse to accept the premises of their questions. The media disliked christie from the get go, it’d be different if they were his suckups and he treated him this way, but, what goes around comes around.

Chris—–KEEP IT UP!

He had me when he threw back in the MFM’s collective face how hypocritical they are when it’s Dems doing things (e.g. blocking a state supreme court nomination).

Let’s hope there is still a country left to govern by time this man runs for President…

Christie can speak compelling reality from the fiscal right as easily as Obama spouts lies from the statist left.

A quality we haven’t seen in a Republican office-holder in a long, long time.

So no one here is calling him a RINO now? lol

And, make no mistake…he WAS called a RINO, for the duration of the campaign.

This guy is great, and everybody knows it – I know plenty of people who voted for Corzine who now say that Christie’s their guy. He is absolutely pwning the teacher’s union, something that Arnold , the fake governator, never even tried to do………

Priscilla on May 14, 2010 at 7:18 AM

This happily married woman thinks that was just pretty dang sexy. That’s what you call a LEADER.

hoosiermama on May 13, 2010 at 11:22 PM

This really old, overweight gent just knew that if I waited long enough someone like us would step forward and make us proud. Looking the public directly in the eye and unflinchingly telling the truth is much like looking a woman straight in the eye and delivering the facts with no BS. Directs the focus from the waistline to the brain.

Truth and action, an aphrodisiac?

Biggest think I took from this: He spoke for 2:30 off the cuff, with nary an ‘um…’ nor ‘ahh…’. Shows a man who knows what he believes in.

I hadn’t seen much of Christi speak before, but damn he is honest and refreshing indeed.

Over the last feww years, some people have posted that we need another Reagan. There will never be another Reagan. He was one of a kind.

What we do need is Happy Warriors like Reagan was. In Christie, Palin, and perhaps others, we have happy warriors with enthusiasm, conviction, and wit.

“A solid first term, then reelection in 2014, and suddenly the wide-open 2016 primaries are right around the corner…”

For that senior to work you have to assume Obama is going to get reelected in 2012 because no Republican beat him and I don’t think that is going to happen. If he is going to run then it is either 2012 or 2020.

Wussiefied Eric Holder has a charter to start pushing states around. Me thinks this state of Jersey will push back.
The American Power Grab Act has very expensive participation mandates in it for the states. We will need pushback on that.

mountainaires on May 14, 2010 at 8:49 AM

As a former resident of the Garden State, I envy those guys.

If anyone could get Palin on a national ticket, Christie as a 2012 nominee could. No strike against the ‘Cuda, but I honestly believe Christie could probably sell ice to Eskimos and they’d come back for seconds. A Christie/Palin GOP ticket would be my personal dream team for the next POTUS election.

itzWicks on May 14, 2010 at 9:00 AM

Wow! I simply want to watch this over and over as it has been so rare to see and hear such truth spoken by a pol.

I never believed in human cloning, but I am tempted to make an exception in his case. We need as many of his type of politician as we can get!

IrishEyes on May 14, 2010 at 9:02 AM

Christie is great. Truly great. I would love nothing more than to see him on the national stage. After the horror show that is the Obama administration and the current loathe-America congress, he would redefine the word fantastic.

But… I hate to say this, but I feel like I have to… For that to happen, he’s going to have to lose some weight. I fear that too many people would look at him and write him off instantly because of how he looks and not bother listening to what he says—sort of like Sarah Palin, but for a different reason. Regardless of what he does in New Jersey, I think too many people would have a hard time taking him seriously because of his weight.

I wish I didn’t believe that, but I do. If the Democrats hadn’t spent decades conditioning people to stop paying attention to words’ meanings, then maybe this wouldn’t be an issue. But we need to focus on finding someone who is the perfect package of policy, speaking ability, and presentability, and I just feel that Christie would lose points with the latter.

Again, to be clear, I don’t want him to change a darn thing with regards to what he says or what he does as governor, because so far I think he’s making all the right choices. But if he plans to compete on the national political circuit, being in better shape will only improve his—and all of our—chances.

WesternActor on May 14, 2010 at 9:02 AM

WTF! This guy was completely understandable – and unapologetic. Can’t have that in government, can we?

alwyr on May 14, 2010 at 9:04 AM

Somebody should send this to John McCain so he can see what “straight talk” actually is like. Of course, it might not help him. Having had Palin at his side, he didn’t seem to learn from her either.

IrishEyes on May 14, 2010 at 9:04 AM

WesternActor on May 14, 2010 at 9:02 AM

There’s no time like now to start conditioning people the other way.
If you subscribe to this defeatest theory, you lose.
Good leaders, charismatic people, do not need the plastified slimness of Hollywood to be listened to or revered.
If you have real talent, people will see this & your appearance will not matter much at all.

Badger40 on May 14, 2010 at 9:11 AM

Watch the guy to he left of Christie. He is having such a good time! Expresses my feelings exactly.

IrishEyes on May 14, 2010 at 9:17 AM

Regardless of what he does in New Jersey, I think too many people would have a hard time taking him seriously because of his weight.

I could not agree with you less. It was an issue that Corizin tried to exploit, and look where that got him. If Christie were to run for POTUS in the future, he will have a record in which to run on. After four years of Obama, we will have felt the effects of voting for someone on the basis of superficialities and I suspect (and hope) that the people who go the poles won’t be that stupid. I see why you would come to that conclusion, America has a hard time electing someone who doesn’t look like they could play the POTUS on TV, but I think the country is going to have more serious concerns by then. Besides Christie is one of those people who carry their weight well and doesn’t look bad, in my opinion.

My post to the reporter who asked the question:

http://blog.nj.com/njv_tom_moran/2010/05/gov_chris_christie_pressures_d/2162/comments-19.html

I am encouraged to see that the liberals in this state fear Gov Christie.

All of you self aggrandizing people who claim to want to help the poor or middle class while all along making things exponentially worse. It has been under the leadership of people like you that our taxes have soared. That we’ve made promises we cant hope to keep.

The lessons of California and Greece are lost on you. The lessons here at home, where the poor are barely holding on or forced to move because of the absurd taxes.

The taxes go up inexorably and the tax base shrinks, a death spiral that all but the most ideologically blind can see yet you do not. Then when the obvious solutions are posited we hear the familiar cries of “Save the children” “More money for education” “Help our poor”. You fools. You utter fools. I dont care about the well meaning behind your ignorance anymore, and I grant that some of you are merely ignorant not malevolent. Pawns of the power brokers in the unions and elsewhere. It’s beyond that now.

We’re pissed off. Help or get out of the way. No. No compromises. Fix what is wrong. What has been wrong for decades.

Truly….. honest and refreshing!

Dick Turpin on May 14, 2010 at 9:50 AM

Dash on May 14, 2010 at 9:43 AM

Have you seen the graph floating around comparing New Jersey and Greece? It is eerie. Both have almost exactly the same GDP, the same level of government spending, and the same level of government debt. If I can find a link to it I will post it.

This is what a crisis manager looks like. Christie knows these numbers by heart and he knows time is running out to fix them before New Jersey beats California to the bankruptcy court. The state really is in worse shape than California, because at least California passed Prop 13 which limits property tax increases and it takes a 2/3 vote in the legislature to raise state income taxes. New Jersey has shown what happens when you let Democrats take over with no limits.

rockmom on May 14, 2010 at 9:53 AM

How dare Christie grab the wheel of a runaway government vehicle heading for a fiscal brick wall and try to steer it to safety!

Actually, I think because Christie isn’t a plastic looking perfect looking person is part of the package that works for him. In our society, and on TV, big guys are affable and liked by many. I think he has that going in his favor. Add to his real “straight talk” and the ability to do this smack down in such a charming, but pointed way, even makes it work better for him. I don’t think the voters are going to think about his weight when they are facing his name on any ballot in his future. This guy is the real deal.

karenhasfreedom on May 14, 2010 at 10:54 AM

Chris Christie has surpassed my expectations 1,000 fold. From the snarky accounts here and other blogs he was a RINO and the other guy was the true conservative. Lonnigan, I think. It was McDonnell that was the true conservative of that evening in November. Well, look what happened! It’s Christie that is the one that has shown his true colors and is getting down to work, flipping out Democrats, and saving NJ. This is a dream come true!
Here in VA McDonnell didn’t have the problems that Christie has had and although we are not as financially sound as we would like to be, at least some adults are in charge. Our state constitution demands a balanced budget. Democrats and Republicans get along much better here than in other places and the balance of power changes often.

Indeed. Arguing over differences of opinion is not only ok, it’s necessary! Democrats succeed largely because they’re never confronted on what their goals are.

Take climate change – nobody ever says “well, let’s study manmade ways to reduce the impact of climate change, since the climate WILL change at some point, regardless of the cause. Having that debate would reveal that progressives don’t care about the environment, they care about the MONEY.
