Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:09 am on May 13, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

File this one in the If Bush Had Said It Department. Had George Bush stumbled over the word “emancipation” as Barack Obama did at Hampton University over the weekend, it would have been all over the talk-show circuit. As it is, Mark Levin seems to be the only one who picked up on it:

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

Obviously, he began to say “empowerment”, a word that is probably embedded in his DNA, and switched to “emancipation” mid-word. We’re lucky; we could have instead ended up hearing “emancipant”.

The thing that’s far more distressing here, is to hear a president say that “information becomes a distraction”.

To hear a president warn students against listening to the “wrong information”, to see his antagonism to corporate speech, antagonism to news organizations…it’s all quite a distance further down the road than when Spiro Agnew was skewered for simply calling the press “nattering nabobs of negativity”.

As a life ling competitive golfer, it was very disappointing that to find out that Tiger was behaving much like married basketball players do. It was equally disappointing to find out that Tiger was palling around with the likes of Charles Barkley, who is a disgusting Progressive Liberal racist thug pig. Double shame on Tiger Woods.

Obama and Barkley really are in the same mental giant boat together. The only people in life who find these two intelligent are themselves.

Hmmmm.

Personally the thing with “Corpseman” bothers me the most. That Obama is overrated is IMO a given. That he isn’t that “brilliant” and is really an empty suit is an established fact.

What bothers me is that it’s nearly impossible for someone of Obama’s age who has live most of his life in the USA to _NOT_ know the proper pronunciation of “corpsman”. How many WWII movies are there where the term “corpsman up!” is used? John Wayne USMC movies alone have that phrase in abundance.

Consider this: Even Obama’s speechwriters and handlers knew how to pronounce “corpsman” that they assumed that Obama did as well. I think you have to deliberately and specifically isolate yourself from American culture in order to achieve the level of cluelessness that Obama has shown in abundance.

Personally, I could care less if he mispronounces a few words in speech. Having an oratory genius as POTUS is low on my priority list.

What I do require in our number one public servant is to be first and foremost a patriot and to care more about the United States of America and it’s citizen than him/herself.

Secondly, I’d like to see private sector experience. Not necessarily a business owner but at the very least to have been involved (skin in the game or executive) with a company that produced something.

No more lawyers please. We should set a minimum percentage of our “public servants” who are lawyers.

The most impressive and honest people I’ve met in my life have been people without advanced degrees who have at some point in their lives struggled and come out on top. I don’t think you could find more than a handful of people in Washington who have those credentials.

I would say further that college courses often defy common sense.
All that useless knowledge actually screws up your thinking process.
I got my science degree as a ‘non-traditional’ student (old person).
I had lived a life already scraping by before I entered college.
And I was never a part of ‘campus life’ EVER.
In fact, I never attended commencement exercises bcs it was a stupid waste of time IMHO.
I said, mail me my diploma.
My husband is a perfect example of your comment.
He is a simple cowboy & rancher with a HS diploma (avg grades-never really tried too hard) & took a couple week long vet course.
He is a great mechanic, welder, cowman, & is way smarter than I am.
But he still often will comment how I’m smarter just bcs of my college background.
He may not have the ‘book learning’ down, but he is one of the smartest people I know.

The most impressive and honest people I’ve met in my life have been people without advanced degrees who have at some point in their lives struggled and come out on top. I don’t think you could find more than a handful of people in Washington who have those credentials.

Adversity creates character; Easy to see why Obama and his cronies have none.
I had an uncle that could not read, but drove all over the United States, and successfully ran two businesses; His wife was retired Army Air Corps, and did all his reading for him, but still, this was a monumental feat for someone that could not read, and he died not ever learning.
AND, BY THE WAY, HE WAS WHITE.
