Obama: All this darned media is putting “pressure” on our democracy
posted at 6:47 pm on May 9, 2010 by Allahpundit
A fine example of a comment that would sound banal coming from a generic Sunday morning chat show pundit but becomes postworthy when uttered by the president. All he’s saying, really, is that as media multiplies, it becomes easier to spread disinformation. Which may be so — but of course, it becomes easier to challenge disinformation too. The One neglects to mention that last part; I wonder why. In any case, enjoy this twice over — once for the odd inclusion of Xboxes and PlayStations in an argument about truth in media and the second time for the thought of how nutroots bloggers would have reacted to George “Adolf” Bush casually wondering whether having so many voices in the public square is healthy for a democracy.

And how disgusting that he delivered this little “don’t read anything; you’re too stupid to understand it. Just listen to me” screed on a black campus. Barry and the dems really like their voting blocs ignorant, and that’s getting harder and harder. God help them if blacks ever start looking around at what half a century of democrat policies have gotten them (see Detroit, for example). It’s much better for the dems if they can control the media 100% and just convince the folks living in the inner city that what they see out of their windows isn’t really there.

“Information is a distraction”
And Mr. Wonderful says this at a GRADUATION COMMENCEMENT.
Thanks Barry. They will be thinking about that when they spend the next ten years paying student loans off along with everything else you have planned for them while they hunt for a job.

No. I had heard of the George W. Bush billboard version though, but I think we are now well beyond both Bush and Carter “Miss me yet’s”. Don’t you think?
BTW, am I the only one here old enough to remember the “Shake and Bake” commercials?

But I have a plan to change all that exchange of information and it will necessarily have to stop if I’m going to get my plan done. That is why we will have a new bill on my desk next week to improve this flow of information. We will call it the My Way or the Highway bill.

Obama wants it to be like China so he can control the information. He already controls the education system. He wants to control the internet and news no doubt.
Spathi on May 9, 2010 at 7:58 PM
As counter-intuitive as it sounds, the quality of information at our fingertips is higher than it has ever been. There may be a lot of noise in the signal, perhaps even more noise than signal, but it’s easier to do research now on any given topic than ever before in history. As for empowerment, more citizens than ever before can become mini-stars and offer the world their insights into all kinds of issues, political and otherwise. Yes, there is noise and not everything will “rank high on the truth scale.” But that’s no different from before. What is different is that there are more filters in place; false memes can spread quickly, but they can also be debunked more quickly.

And speaking of student loans, Sallie Mae had to lay off 2,500 people because of the government takeover. 500 in Killeen, TX which is pretty small. He’s a real job creator, that Narcissist in Chief. I can’t even listen to his voice because it induces projectile vomiting.

If these students are college graduates, haven’t they learned somewhere in their education to discern what credible sources and facts are through honing their critical thinking skills? Or does ObaMao expect these young people to accept only the party line as promulgated via their Leftie professariat and through OFA and the White House Pravda feeds to the approved media?

You’re joking right? Iwent back to scholl to get my MA 2yrs ago, the only thing they are teaching is that which fiyts the progressive narrative.
I had a philosophy student who rented from me, he had never even heard of Rand, Orwell, Burke, Smith, Hume, etc. But was wellread in Marx, Neitcshe, Kafka, etc. Higher Ed is merely a breeding ground for new collectivists, as Disreali pointed out:
“Wherever is found what is called a paternal
government, there is found state education.
It has been discovered that the best way to insure
implicit obedience is to commence tyranny in the nursery.”

Wethal on May 9, 2010 at 8:11 PM
Standard liberal elite, doesn’t see the unwashed masses to as capable of making informed decisions about what to watch and whom to trust.
No it’s not. That’s like saying that the more car makers there are out there, the more likely someone is to buy a crappy car. Competition improves quality, not the opposite. When the only sources for TV news were the big three and CNN, it was phenomenally easy to spread disinformation. Because of the lack of challenge (that you point out), but also because only a very small number of people had to be co-opted to push actively an agenda.
Liberals hate competition, plain and simple.

The last part where he talks about information as ‘distraction’ and calls the press [read: FOX News]liars is the scariest, by far.

I don’t remember that part. It was an advertisement for making “gourmet” meals with little effort. Buy the stuff, seasonings, etc., which was in a bag, put some chicken or something in the bag, then shake and bake.
Rather like Obama’s little experience to President.
It basically came to mean an extreme short cut. Back in the late sixties/early seventies the Army had a ‘Shake and Bake” NCO school where you could go from E-1 to E-5 or even E-6 in a matter of months.

For all of us that can remember those shows, in a time when there was only black and white t.v. with 3 channels, we should consider ourselves lucky. We grew up in an era that the young kids today will never know. An era that’s now long gone. And that’s both heartbreaking and tragic.
