Obama: All this darned media is putting “pressure” on our democracy
posted at 6:47 pm on May 9, 2010 by Allahpundit
A fine example of a comment that would sound banal coming from a generic Sunday morning chat show pundit but becomes postworthy when uttered by the president. All he’s saying, really, is that as media multiplies, it becomes easier to spread disinformation. Which may be so — but of course, it becomes easier to challenge disinformation too. The One neglects to mention that last part; I wonder why. In any case, enjoy this twice over — once for the odd inclusion of Xboxes and PlayStations in an argument about truth in media and the second time for the thought of how nutroots bloggers would have reacted to George “Adolf” Bush casually wondering whether having so many voices in the public square is healthy for a democracy.

Really? Youtube “halo teabagging” – its the thing to do.

So this means we have to wait another year before his next open, unscripted press conference…?

It is not the technology that is the problem, it is the Marxist in the WH that is putting pressure on democracy in a very bad way.

I liked the part where he’s denigrating all of these devices – none of which *he* knows how to use, he reminds us. Every utterance is a reminder, intentionally or not, that’s he’s better than everyone else, eh?

The BHO admin cannot stand any inquisitive light by the media, mainstream or otherwise.
(I dragged this one over from the Nashville post. It deserves more awareness.)
This ought to fry your shorts:
The DoJ tells the intel community to stonewall members of Congress, specifically the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO)
http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MzAwYjUzZGNjZTQyNGI2ZjRiNGYxMmY0OTkzNTkyZTk=
Apparently Bond wants some answers re the Times Square wannabe bomber, Shazaaam, and Bond is being rebuffed for his earlier criticism of the Christmas Day bomber handling. The DoJ stonewalling is contrary to protocol.
onlineanalyst on May 9, 2010 at 9:11 PM
Time to defund the DoJ until they realize who they actually work for…?

I wrote on why Obama would be saying this now — well, at least one possible reason.
This would explain him ending this part with “some of the craziest claims can quickly claim traction.” What are your suggestions. I think birthirism is dead? Why not “Bakerism.”?

This guy’s got all the MSM in his hip pocket since 2008 and all he can whine about is the “bitter clingers” ability to bypass the leftist press. Who does he think he is? Chavez? Fidel? Ackmahdinnerjacket?
chickasaw42 on May 9, 2010 at 9:21 PM
@Archimedes:
You have exposed by Billy Ayres went into “education” for work, besides the general fact that “education” majors draw most significantly from the bottom third of SAT/GPA performance.
Those who can, do. Those who can’t (or have trust funds to make sure they are comfortable no matter what views they espouse), teach.
I don’t think it always was so, but there was a sea change in the 1960′s. And the rot really got going then.
Ideas Have Consequenses by Richard Weaver will inform you that the rot had already commenced…in 1946.
The pace accelerated in the 1960′s. I think I would call this the British rot, to some degree, as they embraced socialism and “sophisticated incompetence” before we did.
Their result, including the highest per capita violent crime rate of any “developed” country, according to the UN and for the last half decade running, is what we face if we are polite to those driving such “change”.
Not on my watch.

(Sources: A Letter To My Son’s [then] 5th-Grade Teacher; An Important Distinction: Democracy versus Republic)
Our Founders had an opportunity to establish a democracy in America but chose not to. In fact, they made very clear that we were not – and never to become – a democracy:
* James Madison (fourth President, co-author of the Federalist Papers and the “father” of the Constitution) — “Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security, or the rights of property; and have, in general; been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.”
* John Adams (American political philosopher, first vice President and second President) – “Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.”
* Benjamin Rush (signer of the Declaration) — “A simple democracy… is one of the greatest of evils.”
* Fisher Ames (American political thinker and leader of the federalists [he entered Harvard at twelve and graduated by sixteen], author of the House language for the First Amendment) –“A democracy is a volcano which conceals the fiery materials of its own destruction. These will provide an eruption and carry desolation in their way.´ / “The known propensity of a democracy is to licentiousness [excessive license] which the ambitious call, and the ignorant believe to be liberty.”
* Governor Morris (signer and penman of the Constitution) — “We have seen the tumult of democracy terminate… as [it has] everywhere terminated, in despotism…. Democracy! Savage and wild. Thou who wouldst bring down the virtuous and wise to thy level of folly and guilt.”
* John Quincy Adams (sixth President, son of John Adams [see above]) — “The experience of all former ages had shown that of all human governments, democracy was the most unstable, fluctuating and short-lived.”
* Noah Webster (American educator and journalist as well as publishing the first dictionary) — “In democracy… there are commonly tumults and disorders….. therefore a pure democracy is generally a very bad government. It is often the most tyrannical government on earth.”
* John Witherspoon (signer of the Declaration of Independence) — “Pure democracy cannot subsist long nor be carried far into the departments of state — it is very subject to caprice and the madness of popular rage.”
* Zephaniah Swift (author of America’s first legal text) — “It may generally be remarked that the more a government [or state] resembles a pure democracy the more they abound with disorder and confusion.”

FYI, Thomas Ayers left a fortune for young Billy. Thomas Ayers himself is complicit in much of the progressive action in Chicago in his day and was involved in much chicanery. Its a bit late for me to get into, but if your interested here’s a link to get you started.

Coronagold on May 10, 2010 at 12:53 AM
I agree with the point of your post, and with many of the particulars, but this sort of thing undermines it–it is intellectually lazy, as cliches generally are. There are many very bright, talented teachers–some are even in the public school system–who teach because they understand how vital it is for a country to have an educated citizenry.
Would that it were so. Once upon a time, Hampton University was a quality school, but what it has going for it now is largely puffery. There are a few bright students, but so many are intellectually lazy (and unfortunately, not particularly bright to begin with), and have giant chips on their shoulders. The pro-Obama hysteria there has not changed since his election, and you can bet the majority of those students didn’t even hear what he was saying to them–they were caught up in emotion, in an “Amen the Sunday sermon” atmosphere, and they will not be able to recall what he said, only how they felt about having him there.

Obama Targets Battleground States With Video Game Ads
The Barack Obama presidential campaign has broken ground in a relatively new ad medium: in-game advertising. The candidate has purchased ads in the Xbox 360 car-racing title “Burnout: Paradise City.” When a gamer goes online to play against other racers, the ad appears as a billboard.

If Dear Leader had brought forth a correlation between media and our society’s well-being, I don’t think I could argue. A cursory look back would seem to show that our country’s moral fiber and family cohesion has been declining steadily as more and more media formats become available.
But, he seems to be bemoaning that all that information out there originates largely from sources other than the White House, Pelosi’s office, Reid’s office and the DNC HQ.
But why bring this up at all? Why attach an ideological tone to electronic communications? Sounds Josef Goebbelish to me.

Well I did agree with most everything BO had to say in that clip.
The last bit about having so many avenues of info ‘challenging’ our democracy could be innocent, but since he has already shown his true colors on this issue, I can assume with great accuracy that he does not like the American people having these avenues of quick & easy info.
It is true that many people are too stupid to sort out the details of info found on the internet for themselves.
However, in this republic, the citizen must be given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to intelligence.
To give the govt any power in determining who is fit or what is fit when it comes to evaluating & dissemination information is unacceptable to a republic.
And this is what I see as an underlying goal of people like BO: to stifle the flow of information they cannot control.
Bcs it does their cause damage.
The truth is such a b#$%^ to manipulate, especially when people know what the truth really is.
