Video: Strangely enough, Gibbs doesn’t want to talk about Obama’s “teabagger” quote

posted at 7:05 pm on May 6, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via Mediaite. Old and busted: “The time for talk is over.” The new hotness: The time for talk must not begin. What’s interesting about this is that Gibbsy seems fully aware of the term’s connotations, to the point that he’s palpably uncomfortable with the idea of bringing it up with Obama. Which is understandable, but poses a teensy problem for his inevitable excuse that The One didn’t know it was offensive. Everyone knows what it means, including his own press secretary, but not … the hippest president in history? Unlikely.

The only way we’re going to get satisfaction on this is when (or if?) Obama holds another press conference and the White House press corps gets a free shot. I’ve already alerted Tapper that we’re counting on him and politely requested that, if he does raise the issue, he phrase it this way: “Mr. President, what’s up with these ‘baggers?” Video gold, my friends.

“I can’t imagine I’m going to ask the President that.”

Afraid Gibby? Does that “Stare” creep you out?

At this point I almost feel sorry for old Gibbsy, having to deal with this mess.
Almost.

And the weasel slithers out of yet another sphincter-tightening moment with an increasingly inquisitive press…

Cowards. Bastards. Scum from top to bottom, the entire administration.

Fishoutofwater on May 6, 2010 at 7:11 PM

Teabagging is something Gibbs and Obama speak of in private.

Mr. Joe on May 6, 2010 at 7:13 PM

Unless of course to slander the tea parties to the MSM.

Geez, they really ARE, aren’t they?

How sad for us.

tree hugging sister on May 6, 2010 at 7:14 PM

Then again, perhaps Obama and Gibbs do not discuss it in private. Hard to talk with your mouth full.

Mr. Joe on May 6, 2010 at 7:14 PM

Could it be that Gibbs has a conscience? Could it be that he’s rising above petty name calling, and labels toward Americans, that just don’t agree with certain policies? Could it be that he’s seeing the light, and wants to go in a different path? One that we can be assured will press Obama that he’s president to all, and not just those who agree with him?

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!

Vintage Gibbs. Stammer and plead ignorance. If pressed further, just dismiss it altogether.

Maybe someone should ask him “does Obama have any character”.

I don’t think he’s gonna last that long. His family needs more time from him, and all that.

inviolet on May 6, 2010 at 7:19 PM

Hmm; all he had to do was lie through his teeth and say

the President wasn’t aware of the vulgar term and would be distressed if he knew, blame Anderson Cooper and CNN, you reporters have dirty minds, etc, blah blah blah.

Wonder why he avoided the question instead?

tru2tx on May 6, 2010 at 7:23 PM

Sort of OT.

Did anyone see Beck today? He did a special about the AZ immigration law. After showing Obama talking about cops harassing innocent brown people while they are just trying to get some ice-cream with their kids Beck quipped: ” And the next thing you know a bunch of doctors are going to lop off your feet and steal your kid’s tonsils!” The audience erupted laughing. So did I.

I would not want the job of answering for the current moron we have in the WH.

Mord on May 6, 2010 at 7:24 PM

Speaking of teabagging, what happened to the National Enquirer story on Obama’s “alleged” infidelity?

Why was NY Times Square terrorist removed from No Fly list by the O administration????

Militia case falling apart….details gibby…….Much ado about nothing….trying to blame on Tea Partiers or as you like to say….baggers

Gibbs makes me ill, but I’m glad I watched the video. Watching the press turn on their messiah is completely worth the nausea inflicted by Gibbsy.

Oh, I’m sorry, is that profane language?
Then why did you call good Americans that name?”

barnone on May 6, 2010 at 7:32 PM

At least Bush had the courage to hold a press conference. And did so knowing morons like David Gregory would badger him over and over again about whether “he ever made a mistake”.

Something no one would ever ask the perfect president holding office now, who does nothing but make mistakes.

OBAMA LAPDOGS in the WHPC actually asked the Chubby one a question about something that the Destroyer actually said in an interview.

Just like his president.

The striking similarity of this sudden removal of journalistic access to the President to the refusal of the autocratic bureaucrats of Soviet Union to allow people to see leaders suddenly struck incompetent by life-threatening illnesses has already been remarked upon by many Americans. The difference here, of course, is that serious questions about the basic ability of George W. Bush to command the White House have been raised ever since he announced his candidacy, and have never been put to rest. The President’s refusal to answer the questions of reporters while cameras are rolling will only intensify the questions that the American people have been struggling with since his inauguration.

Why is President Bush afraid of holding public question and answer sessions? Are Bush’s handlers just afraid that he’ll make a mistake, or is there something more to it? Is Bush really in control in the White House, or is he just a figurehead? If he isn’t in control, who is – the Vice President, or some other unknown person or organization? If Bush’s wealthy campaign contributors can have personal access to the White House, how come ordinary Americans can’t even see the President on television in a live press conference once a month? How will the American people ever know what’s really going on in the White House if the President won’t hold a press conference?

winston on May 6, 2010 at 8:06 PM

I’d say Obama is guilty of hate speech.

It is obvious he meant to smear and stir up anger, even violence against Americans he feels are inferior to him.

I think that qualifies as hate speech. Oh wait he’s black so he actually can’t participate in hate speech can he?

Some citizens are more equal than others.

petunia on May 6, 2010 at 8:06 PM

Is anyone surprised that Obama would use a detremental term to describe those who disagree with him? After all, those who disagree with Obama are called racists. It’s so easy to be Obama… you can’t lose. You have the right to say whatever you want about your opposition…after all…. you won. But others cannot…I mean NEVER can they say anything in opposition to you Mr. President of the United States, because that would be…RACIST. How nice to be African American or Indonesian American or whatever color American when you are allowed to call others racists in order to stifle, shut up, or put down opposition!

I bet $ …NO more press conferences…too many questions he CANNOT answer…and he knows it!

winston on May 6, 2010 at 8:06 PM

Yep, and it’s lose-lose.

No presser and he looks like a coward. Presser, he makes a “stupidly” mistake that sinks his presidency.

Both are losers. But the latter is less disasterous. Hence, no presser–even though it looks horrible on his part.

Grace_is_sufficient on May 6, 2010 at 8:14 PM

Gibbsy asking Obama about the teabagger question ranks up there with Gibbsy asking Obama about:
1. the affair he is having with Ms. Baker
and
2.how wide is Michelle’s backside?

albill on May 6, 2010 at 8:17 PM

Oh, Mr. President, I have a question:

During these first 500 days, what has surprised you the most about
this office? Enchanted you the most from serving in this office?
Humbled you the most? And troubled you the most?

Our MSM at work.

PatMac on May 6, 2010 at 8:20 PM

UnderstandingisPower on May 7, 2010 at 12:16 AM

Waitaminnit here! One other aspect to this has gone unnoticed: Sarah Palin was pilloried and ridiculed for not being able to cite exactly to Katie Couric what she reads everyday to stay informed. Gibbsy, however, the voice and camera presence of the Prez-Who-Dares-Not-Meet-With-Press, admits he “barely has time to read his briefing books” and is ignorant of what is in a major tome about his boss?? Puh-leaze.

Captain Scarlet on May 7, 2010 at 4:37 AM

I was 52 when they held the first national tea party protest and I had no idea what tea bagging meant. However, I’m not a self-admitted eight baller like our President either.

Jaibones on May 7, 2010 at 11:27 AM

Jake Tapper:

“Thank you Mr. President. Would you please clarify once and for all if you have ever used the disparaging term ‘Teabaggers’ in reference to those involved in the Tea Party Movement.”

President Obama:
“Now Jake, let me be perfectly clear: Americans are tired of name calling and politics as usual. That’s one of the things that I’ve continually pledged to change.

Which is why health care insurance reform was so important. Sometimes you have to do things that some people find unpopular at the time.”

4:00 minute mark

“The reality is, is that it’s tough to be a Hispanic American living in Arizona right now…”

8:00 minute mark

“This is why I’ve always been such a strong advocate of non-nuclear proliferation. We don’t need enough weapons to destroy the earth twenty times over.”

12:00 minute mark

“Thank you Jake for giving me the chance to clear that up.”
