Marlon Wayans: It’s hard to joke about Obama because he’s “trying to do good”

posted at 8:24 pm on May 6, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via CNS, a fun companion piece to Scarlett Johansson insisting last night that she’s drunk on Obama Kool-Aid. This cuts to the core of it, doesn’t it? It’s not merely that The One’s intentions are presumed virtuous, it’s that the GOP’s are implicitly malignant. Which, to beat a dead horse, reminds me again of the merits of “epistemic closure.” What’s the point of engaging someone who assumes you’re out to do harm? You can debate policy to find the best means to a virtuous end, but only if both parties first accept that a virtuous end is what the other’s after. We long ago passed that point in our politics, at least in terms of how the lefty and righty bases relate to their opponents. And of course, we long ago passed it in terms of how the media covers conservatives. What good would it do for a racist violent Nazi teabagger to try to engage, say, Frank Rich? He’s “trying to do good” and you’re not. Teabagger.

This also explains how blacklists form, incidentally. No one gets blacklisted for being “misguided.” Presumed malevolence is a prerequisite. Mission accomplished.

SoulGlo on May 6, 2010 at 8:42 PM

The real reason no one can come up with a good joke about Obama is that he’s a GIANT WALKING JOKE on his own. There is no comedic interpretation that could improve upon the hilarity that exists in the person of Barack Obama. He’s funnier than Mohammed in a bear suit.

and so,I bet that terrifying threat carried over to the
entertainment business as well, and all Liberals, got the

=========================================================
Obama warns Republicans not to attack his wife

DEMOCRATIC candidate Barack Obama has warned Republicans to lay off attacks on his wife, Michelle, as he prepares to switch to full campaign mode.
———————————–
The controversial remark by Michelle Obama was several months ago. She said during a speech that for the first time she was proud to be an American.

I’d like to know what Wayans and Apatow meant by “doing good”. They cannot possibly think the current state of this nation is “good”. I understand many on the left wanting to give Obama a chance, but the man’s been in office nearly 16 months now. At some point they have to concede either what the man’s doing ain’t working or that they’re hardcore ideologues who refuse to go after politicians with D’s after their names.

fogw on May 6, 2010 at 8:48 PM

Mocking Obama would be a piece of cake, but no one will go there. Walk into the room, grinning, pointing at people in the room, faux hug the guy/gal who introduces you, then “I, I, I, uh, uh, uh”, spout a couple of banal, meaningless generalities, then “I, I, uh, uh, let me be clear. I’ve said this all along. We must balance the good of society with individual rights. Uh.”. Then walk off the stage in an exaggerated black/jive walk, super cool, not a care in the world. Big smile and point at a couple of people. That’s just for starters. Obama is a rich vein of comedy gold, which no one is brave enough to mine.

Paul-Cincy on May 6, 2010 at 8:49 PM

Anyone but a hopeless narcissist would be embarrassed and humiliated by the drooling idiots that adore him. They’re really a pathetic bunch of air heads.

Is the United States out of Iraq?
Is the United States out of Afghanistan?
Is Gitmo closed?
Is our economy doing well?
Has Obama started to heal the oceans?
Have racial tensions been erased?
Is Detroit finally a black Utopian, democratic wet dream?
Does the Muslim world love us now and no longer want to do us harm?
How’s our deficit?
How’s our national debt?

Someone here had the best line about Obama. If he was anymore thin skinned, he’d need a reservoir tip.

Yes. Obama has expressed open contempt for our country and way of life.

Almost everything Obama does indicates that he dislikes America.

Please give me strength to survive living with these foolish American liberals.

They’re slowly killing our country and there seems no way to help them understand aside from a national tragedy!!!

scotash on May 7, 2010 at 3:43 AM

I just wish that at least some Republicans would finally get the reality that the Democrats and the Media are not reasonable people that can be trusted and that a middle ground can be found that both sides can be satisfied with.

They hate America (as the Right understands it). They despise Conservatives/the Right and Republicans and feel no need to deal honestly with us or our opinions or our supposed representatives. They know they are in a fight to the death. The only group who doesn’t understand this are in our legislatures and call themselves Republicans.

If we have to forgo ‘winning’ in 2010 (which is becoming more and more NOT an assured bet) to eradicate those who have a greater affinity for our enemies than to their electors, then so be it.

AP

Yup, and that is why I am now convinced that our nation will never move back towards being a representative republic without major upheaval.
The Left thinks that the leaders of the Right are evil and the ‘rank and file’ are provincial hicks and/or racists. The Right thinks that the leaders of the Left are evil and the “rank and file” is self centered fuzzy thinking fools.

You cannot move with this level of polarization.

Nathan_OH on May 7, 2010 at 8:16 AM

Both sides now presume that the other is malevolent.

The difference is that the left *is* malevolent. :)

All kidding aside, I largely do believe this, and it’s supported by fact. I suppose I could give them the benefit of the doubt and presume that they are simply stupid when they refuse to acknowledge facts, when they outright lie to our faces, when they do their best to subvert the Constitution, when they actively seek out actions that are historically proven to destroy economies/markets/employment/etc…

But beyond a certain point, mere ‘stupidity’ doesn’t explain their behavior any longer, and all that’s left is that they must be doing it on purpose, with full knowledge that they’re actions are harmful to the country.

They do not have the country’s best interests in mind.

Malevolence.

Midas on May 7, 2010 at 8:44 AM

rplat on May 7, 2010 at 8:58 AM

This is a summation of the entire right/left divide.

The right generally believes that the left is naive, or at least they did pre-President Obama (now its starting to look intentional). This probably has to due with the fact that a lot of righties used to be lefties when they were young and stupid.

The left generally believes the right is evil. They don’t really have another option, because so many of their arguments collapse under the weight of factual scrutiny.
