Good news: Obama using the word “teabaggers” now
posted at 4:46 pm on May 4, 2010 by Allahpundit
Doubtless the defense here will be that The One wasn’t aware of the sexual connotation and therefore had no idea that the term offends tea partiers. Funny thing, though: Offhand, I can’t recall a single instance of him saying “teabaggers” publicly. Not in speeches, not in interviews, not at town halls, not even at that fundraiser a few weeks ago when he goofed on protesters by saying they should be thanking him for cutting their taxes, i.e. for running up gigantic deficits. If he doesn’t know the term’s impolitic, how come he hasn’t innocently used it on camera yet?
He knows. They all know.
In Jonathan Alter’s “The Promise: President Obama, Year One,” President Obama is quoted in an interview saying that the unanimous vote of House Republicans vote against the stimulus bills “set the tenor for the whole year … That helped to create the tea-baggers and empowered that whole wing of the Republican Party to where it now controls the agenda for the Republicans.”
Tea Party activists loath the term “tea baggers,” which has emerged in liberal media outlets and elsewhere as a method of mocking the activists and their concerns.
How many prominent Democrats, I wonder, have yet to use “teabagger” in one form or another? Kerry and Schumer both used it in fundraising e-mails to appeal to the lefty base before the Massachusetts special election, and we’re bound to hear it again as the rhetoric ratchets way down before the midterms. Can it be that … Joe Biden is the tactful elder statesman on the left these days?
A lot of people are e-mailing to remind me that Obama was blathering about civility just three days ago at the University of Michigan (“You can disagree with a certain policy without demonizing the person who espouses it”), but the truth is, he’s been blathering about it forever. The only thing more common these days than a liberal screeching about racism or Nazism is The One spouting platitudes about civility without ever calling his side onto the carpet. That’s a nice gig if you can get it.

This descent into slimy, scatological partisan slander will lead me to calling Obama sleazebagger from now on.

Allah,
The best way to get the White House’s attention, is every time the President or Gibbs uses that term, when you quote him, put in parens (Urban Dictionary definition: When someone places his ….) immediately after the words tea bagger.
They will scream, bloody murder.
Corky Boyd on May 4, 2010 at 6:36 PM
Ann: Couple, not all, of the Obama policies you admire are adaptations of Bush policy or what would have been his policy had he not used up his time. But, I’ll give you a couple others in that list. Still think, he’s generally tempermentally incapable of doing a good job over all. His decisions are too colored by his own ideology and personal agenda and massive ego…though perhaps becoming just a wee tad less so of late…not enough to instill confidence.

Key West Reader on May 4, 2010 at 6:40 PM
Why shouldn’t he call them teabaggers? As much as he whines about one-sided conservative news, you know that he wakes up to the Daily Kos, adds the Huffinton smears to his breakfast toast, and swills down the black tea of Media Matters.
If there’s anyone who is the poster boy for the Liberal echo chamber, it’s our Commie Prez.
The grand consolation in all this is that he knows his party is doomed this November. Pisses him off like you wouldn’t believe.

When words gets around, if it does, about this a lot of folks are going to be turned off by it. It’s not something a sitting president should even think about saying. Even if he didn’t understand the connotations it will look bad because many simply won’t believe him. Very few Americans want their Prez engaging in this sort of talk. What was last weeks argument about ‘respect for the office’?

Is the president familiar with this practice of teabagging? Does he understand that it is potentially an unsafe act that could result in poor health outcomes that would drive up costs associated with obamacare? It could lead to dental problems as well, possibly temporomandibular joint disorder or TMD. I wonder if he knows if that is covered under Obamacare? Does anyone else know.

Substitute “Jews” for “tea baggers” and I think we can figure out where The One’s coming from on this matter.
Can’t shake this feeling that these Leftists are not merely looking at this as one term at a time the way the Democrats of old might have done…they are looking far into the future and are doing all they can to create an environment and implement the various apparatus needed to rule out conservatism (“counter-revolutionaries” in their view) forever.
Communists don’t believe that a society can make a major change from one historical-economic-social era to the next without drastic measures, revolution and bloodshed.
We are leaving the era of Capitalism and entering into the era of Socialism. The era of Communism will be the final step. Guess we’ll just have to sit around and look at each other as our Republic is dismantled.
Maybe if we had taken Communism a little more seriously decades ago rather than pretending they didn’t exist here in any meaningful numbers…maybe if we hadn’t fallen for their Hollywood/TV/media brainwashing…maybe if we had been as concerned with the welfare of our Country as we were for ourselves…maybe if we had been less spoiled and felt less entitled…maybe if we had encouraged our Conservative youth to become more educated and compete with the Marxists in Academia, journalism and politics…maybe if we had paid more attention to what they were doing behind the scenes and less to the damn ball games and car races…maybe if we had lived more as our great grandparents did and clung to their values and God as we cling to our 401Ks now…

Trust me, I know first hand.
Similarly, Obama as a street thug says hey, I’m a healer, a great uniter. Listen up, I’m here to heal you. Then when he’s got your attention he says, listen up, teabagger, do what I say and I won’t hurt you, got it teabagger?
I knew he was a thug. I’m just surprised at how quickly the mask came off.

Obama is an arse. And his arse image is growing like a monster pumpkin on super-fertilizers. Those things weigh a ton. Luckily they get harvested in the fall. I can`t wait for Obama to be harvested out of office in 2012. On the other hand he is linked to so many thugs and radicals and terrorists and acorns that of course there are grounds for impeachment. If he was a conservative . . . . with that much dirt he would never have been elected.

Actually, it was at Obama’s very first meeting with the GOP, when Obama refused to accept any GOP ideas saying “I WON SO I TRUMP YOU”. Pelosi shut out the House GOP; the Democrats and Team Obama crafted the healthcare bill behind closed doors.

I’d um, (sorry Ed and Allah, trying to do this politely) rather, “go down” for something I believe in rather in retreating because someone calls me something I’m not.

Did anyone read this article in the Daily Mail? It really gets across the extent to which the left’s pact with the unions is capable of bringing an economy to its knees, by reminding people of the utter economic turmoil Britain went through in the 70′s largely because of the thoroughly selfish and myopic actions of the unions and the liberals who worship them. Frightening reading indeed. I was only a small kid in Britain when all this was going on but I still remember the strikes, the power cuts and the trash piling up in the streets.

A story about how I was “exiled” when I and other TEA Partiers civilly protested our liberal governor’s campaign speech and my comment to one who likes the teabagger word as apparently does our President.
A reply to my comment about the story:
Author: US Taxpayer
Comment:
I was there and the tea folks were trying to disrupt with their signs. These people had the right to protest, but NOT the right to disrupt. They were rude louts.
The tea Baggers use as their strategy the “ARGUMENTUM AD HOMINEM: An argument that attempts to disprove the truth of what is asserted by attacking the speaker rather than the speaker’s argument.” This is their standard mode of operation. They completely forget the HUGE increases that the former governor foisted upon us. A Flush Tax anyone?
My reply:
Anonymous US Taxpayer: You are entitled to your view point per the MD and Federal Constitutions; what you are not is civil or respectful when you call people “tea Baggers”, as you wrote. I assume you know the background of that moniker, so I will not go into its meaning. If you don’t, you should not use it; you just might call the wrong person that name who DOES know the meaning. I’ve been called worse, so I don’t really mind the name calling, but can I also assume you use the N-word to describe African-Americans; a name I was called last week in Bel Air for some stupid reason. I notice you hide behind anonymity, but that is your right and within the rules of the Dagger.
Take care, fellow citizen, and be safe.
and this snip about the word in a followup comment:
As to using it to describe someone or a group there is a thumb rule that goes like this: As with the N-word, or any other ethnic moniker, when used by an outsider directed towards an individual or group, it would be considered vulgar and disparaging, where as one inside the group using it usually is acceptable; somewhat related to their station in the group. Therefore, I suggest that a person who is a TEA Partier can use it to describe other TEA Partiers, although I wouldn’t since I personally see no good side of the word when labeling someone other than one who carries bags of tea, but with someone from the Left using it, it becomes vulgar and disparaging.
