Good news: Obama using the word “teabaggers” now

posted at 4:46 pm on May 4, 2010 by Allahpundit

Doubtless the defense here will be that The One wasn’t aware of the sexual connotation and therefore had no idea that the term offends tea partiers. Funny thing, though: Offhand, I can’t recall a single instance of him saying “teabaggers” publicly. Not in speeches, not in interviews, not at town halls, not even at that fundraiser a few weeks ago when he goofed on protesters by saying they should be thanking him for cutting their taxes, i.e. for running up gigantic deficits. If he doesn’t know the term’s impolitic, how come he hasn’t innocently used it on camera yet?

He knows. They all know.

In Jonathan Alter’s “The Promise: President Obama, Year One,” President Obama is quoted in an interview saying that the unanimous vote of House Republicans vote against the stimulus bills “set the tenor for the whole year … That helped to create the tea-baggers and empowered that whole wing of the Republican Party to where it now controls the agenda for the Republicans.”

Tea Party activists loath the term “tea baggers,” which has emerged in liberal media outlets and elsewhere as a method of mocking the activists and their concerns.

How many prominent Democrats, I wonder, have yet to use “teabagger” in one form or another? Kerry and Schumer both used it in fundraising e-mails to appeal to the lefty base before the Massachusetts special election, and we’re bound to hear it again as the rhetoric ratchets way down before the midterms. Can it be that … Joe Biden is the tactful elder statesman on the left these days?

A lot of people are e-mailing to remind me that Obama was blathering about civility just three days ago at the University of Michigan (“You can disagree with a certain policy without demonizing the person who espouses it”), but the truth is, he’s been blathering about it forever. The only thing more common these days than a liberal screeching about racism or Nazism is The One spouting platitudes about civility without ever calling his side onto the carpet. That’s a nice gig if you can get it.

If only his dad would have teabagged, the world would have been a better place.

CMonster on May 5, 2010 at 9:29 AM

Hey! Does this mean we can use group pejoritives to describe Obama now, too? I hope not; it would be too hard to figure out where to start.

Venusian Visitor on May 5, 2010 at 9:31 AM

This is the action of a man-boy. Disgraceful for a leader, of which he continues to display, he is not.

The One is the least civil one of the lot; it takes a lot of chutzpah for him to even dare to call for civility.

“Our Rights”………Just ewxactly what “Rights” do illegal immigrant cheaters have anyway? They have the right to be arrested and deported as far as I know.

And, that is exactly what we should be aggressively doing every day. Come legally, and you are welcome. Cheat, and go to jail or get deported. This whole debate is a bunch of stupid crap. Deport, baby, deport. If they get caught again, they forfeit their chance to ever be a US citizen.

Lets just follow Mexico immigration law. That would do it.

saiga on May 5, 2010 at 10:06 AM

To compare Nasis to law abiding US citizens trying to control illegal immigration is like comparing Obama to Stalin. A bit of a stretch.

We need to enforce our current immigration laws or accept the fact our country is lost and impotent. These illegals are something else. I have zero sympathy for them. I want them gone sooner rather than later.

Seal the border, and deal with the illegals here now. Identify them, and create a plan to have guest worker visas, but put the cheaters at the back of the line after they pay a heafty fine.

Post-partisan?

REALLY?

The only thing worse than a liar is a bad liar.

Obama: “We’ve got …”

That’s Ivy League grammar for “We have …”.

maverick muse on May 5, 2010 at 11:05 AM

I’m a member of the local Tea Party and I don’t loathe the term teabagger.

I’m supposed to get upset over a schoolyard taunt that they use because they have no substantive arguments to make?

The left calls us names and tells lies about us. We tell the truth. Ergo we are the good guys and they are the villains.

leereyno on May 5, 2010 at 11:22 AM

Well, if the now-surfacing rumors are true, Zero may actually know firsthand what a teabagger is.

Hah! Obama espouses Alan Greyson, Carl Levin, Harry Reid.

I guess that means conservative and anti-big gubmint types are free to fling the term “douchebag” back at him. Well played, champ.

No, no it doesn’t… you don’t get it. We must ALWAYS take the high ground. When we ‘do as they do’ it robs us of the high ground.

We can not win this if we do not purge from ourselves those divisive methods. We need to be a people of moral clarity and peace. If we do that, others will join us.

Otherwise we’re just all pigs rolling in the mud and no one will be able to tell us apart.

Joy on May 5, 2010 at 3:22 PM

He should shut up and stop being such a nagger.

His constant nagging about TP folks, Rush and Fox News needs to stop.

We must make them abide by their own rules per Alinsky. When they don’t, we expose and confront them.

I lived in Japan before. Legally. Needed a visa stamp in my passport (which are papers in and of themselves–try traveling without one). Also needed to CARRY ON PERSON foreigner registration card dispensed by LOCAL ward based on visa in passport.
Yeah, all countries require foreigners to have papers if one is legally in country. And at least Japan requires they be in your pocket. The only people who have to really worry about papers are those without. That makes them illegal. Illegal means against the law. Means if you are a foreigner in the USA you do need a visa and papers.

For that matter, what is a driving license but papers??
Not to mention all of the other licenses one needs for a variety of professions.

Obama and the libs and those protestors are full of crap.MSM full of crap. We all know it but there it is. And I do not see this situation improving soon if at all. Historical? You bet!

Obama is against at least half of the citizens of this country. Their is absolutely no unity in the nation . . . it is hopelessly and irrevocably divided and fractured. The once great Republic we all knew and loved is no more.
