Video: U.S. delegation walks out of tiny terrorist’s nuke tirade

posted at 6:45 pm on May 3, 2010 by Allahpundit

Two clips from today’s nonproliferation summit, one of Dinnerjacket (rocking the shades!) and the other of Hillary’s response. Here’s how the UN works. Right off the bat, everyone watching recognizes that this is pure posturing — right down to the big noisy show of a White House that campaigned on engagement telling its delegates to walk out in protest. A new round of sanctions may well pass but all parties concerned understand that it won’t stop Iran’s bomb quest, which is why, as John Bolton writes today, the only meaningful calculus left is when and whether Israel will act. To the extent that security-council votes on sanctions are still in play, they’ll be purchased with favors behind closed doors, not with speeches like these. Which is to say, the UN operates like any other legislature — except, of course, that this lying fanatic is given the same platform, and treated as a member of equal esteem, as the civilized nations present. For example:

The 189 treaty members – every nation but India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea, all of which have nuclear arsenals or weapons programs – gather every five years to discuss new approaches to problems, by agreeing, for example, that the International Atomic Energy Agency, the U.N. nuclear inspection agency, should be strengthened.

But the NPT conference cannot easily “name and shame” an alleged treaty violator, such as Iran, since as a member state its delegation would block consensus.

As for A-jad’s speech, the usual:

In his 35-minute speech, Ahmadinejad called for the suspension of the United States from the IAEA Board of Governors on grounds that it dropped atomic bombs on Japan in World War II and used depleted-uranium shells in the Iraq war. In addition, he demanded “reform” of the 15-member U.N. Security Council, saying its structure was “extremely unfair and inefficient and mainly serves the interests of the nuclear weapons states.”

It’s almost a shame that he didn’t refer to his country’s new seat on the women’s rights council. A cri de coeur to defend vulnerable women would have been the icing on this absurd cake.

In related news, the White House revealed the size of America’s operable nuclear arsenal today after keeping it secret for decades. Apparently that’s going to guilt China into coming clean too, or something.

As our glorious leader said:

“…generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth.”

We don’t need to keep military secrets anymore. The personality of our lovable, lefty president will keep us safe.

fourdeucer on May 3, 2010 at 6:57 PM

Come on, guys. Don’t you recognize a firm, determined, utterly committed, non-proliferation-affirming, nuclear-Iran-preventing walk-out when you see one? I was especially impressed with the business of packing the briefcases and tidying up the delegation areas before departure.

I mean, this walk-out may have looked deflatingly like just, well, some people leaving a meeting because they had a plane to catch. But to the better-advised eye, it had “Read our lips: no new nukes!” written all over it.

Hmmm. Come to think of it, that may not be the most felicitous allusion.

J.E. Dyer on May 3, 2010 at 6:59 PM

Wow. For decades now, both Republican and Democrat leaders have agreed on the wisdom of maintaining a level of secrecy around our nuclear capability, and all it takes is one bonehead in office….

Can America survive this singularly historic presidency?

THE ONLY WAY IRAN DOESN’T GET NUKES?

Hint:
It won’t be the non-confronting “leader” in the White House (a/k/a “The Destroyer“).

It won’t be the E.U. (they can’t even on agreeing whether Greece should have to sell their islands to get aid).

It won’t be the Russians (Hells Bells, they’re supplying the Iranian suckers).

It won’t be the Chinese (they know Iran won’t cross them because China would vaporize their pretty Persian bahookies).

It won’t be the Saudis (they have friends in Tel Aviv, and they make sizable contribs to all the Presidential Libraries in the U.S.A. so they’re covered by the U.S. Nuclear umbrella…..and now as a bonus they have a BOWING U.S. PRESIDENT).

It won’t be the U.N. (they love all dictators and despots since that makes up about 90% of the worlds governments).

The difference 40 years and a Party makes. Nixon forced out of office for an inane lie while Obama compromises security and hardly a yawn by either party. A pox on both their houses.

chemman on May 3, 2010 at 7:16 PM

Whether to reveal the full total, including those thousands of nearly dead warheads, was debated within the Obama administration. Keeping those weapons out of the figure released Monday represented a partial concession to intelligence agency officials and others who argued national security could be harmed by laying the entire nuclear arsenal bare.

A senior defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the overall total is still classified, did not dispute the rough estimates developed by independent analysts.

Thank you to all of the intelligence agency officials mentioned in this portion of the article for fighting the administrations desire to let everyone know our defensive/offensive posture down to what color underoos Obama wears. Please keep fighting for our nation’s security. Do not retire, do not resign, do not take a job in the private sector until Obama is out of office. Our nation depends on you.

FORCING ISRAEL to admit how many it has…..thereby giving Iran the greenlight/evidence/cover for being seen to be just a gentle Persian friend (because they have only 5 nukes, 15 nukes, 25 nukes….) whereas the BAAAAAD JUUUUS have 75?

If you accept that we have, AT BEST, a MUSLIM SYMPATHIZER in the White House then it makes plausible sense that he is also trying to transform the world for his global masters in the same way he’s transforming the U.S.A?

The Iranian fellow is a foreigner and a nut case to boot. One can understand his infuriating and yet self interested behavior from that perspective. The mystery is the behavior of our own government. I’ll wager that many Americans have paid a high price to keep this sort of nuclear information from our enemies in the past. Now it’s show and tell time. One fears for our nation.

I see that Ahmadaboutjihad is tieless for his diatribe. If he took off his jacket, he could look as sincer as Barry the Man-Child, who learned all about nuclear non-proliferation in kindergarten.

I see that the numbers of nuclear scientists abandoning ship in Iran are increasing and that estimates of the extent and intent of Iran’s nuclear program are constantly being updated by our security personnel.

bitsy on May 3, 2010 at 10:30 PM

Although I disagree with this action as it’s never a good idea to let your enemies know any facts about your capabilities, I say; so What?

It’s not like as if Iran is going to come up with anything like that number of nukes anytime in the near future. Russia already has a pretty good idea what we have from the disarmament talks and the nukes into fuel deal. China I’m sure has purchased the info years ago.

So; who cares? What good will this information do anyone?

What’s more disturbing is Obama’s readiness to accept a Nuclear Iran but so was Bush. G.W. had a better shot at doing something about it or at least had more control of Iraqi airspace and could’ve let an Israeli strike force through. Where we’ve really slipped up is not backing the people of Iran in their quest for a more democratic Iran. I think they were ripe this year and a little encouragement could’ve tipped things over. That would have keep dinnerjacket and the Mullahs too busy to be running around trying to play International Nuclear politics in our backyard.

jcw46 on May 3, 2010 at 11:52 PM

I’m all for regime change in Iran. The Project for a new American Century has all the pieces in place. The moderate opposition in Iran has proved that they are ready to take their country back and govern again. I would love to see us do to Iran what we did to Iraq and have the new moderate government try all senior members of the mullahcracy there and hang every last one of them for humanitarian crimes against the citizens and perverting Islam.

OxyCon on May 4, 2010 at 12:04 AM

In related news, the White House revealed the size of America’s operable nuclear arsenal today after keeping it secret for decades. Apparently that’s going to guilt China into coming clean too, or something.

Every president since nuclear weapons were first developed has seen the basic sense of keeping the exact numbers of our nuclear weapons a secret. Even the weak-kneed Clinton and the completely useless Carter had more sense than to broadcast that information.

So it’s official now: Obama has surpassed Carter as the worst president of the last 100 years. At this point, Buchanan will soon be known as only the second worst president of all time.

From anyone else, this would be treason. From our current president, it should be grounds for impeachment.

And while I don’t in any way support or condone a violent removal from office, not even as some sort of a veiled hint — apparently, such disclaimers are now needed — I can begin to see how someone might feel it had to be done to protect the nation.

To be clear, as president, Obama does have the authority to decide that it’s no breach of national security to reveal this information. Even though I think the decision is horrible enough to be a clear violation of his oath to protect and defend the Constitution. But from what I understand of the impeachment process, the House would have the authority to impeach if they thought the president was violating his oath to defend the Constitution, and it would then be up to the Senate to decide if that was in fact the case.

But the damage has been done now. The first thing a real president should do once inaugurated is take steps to make this information obsolete so that our enemies are no longer sure what we have.
