Video: RGA rips media for smearing “Remember November” ad

posted at 4:59 pm on May 3, 2010 by Allahpundit

Remember that ad? Ultra-slick, ultra-effective, and therefore instantly demagogued by Time magazine and MSNBC as being a coded embrace of the alleged domestic-terrorist vogue sweeping those darned tea-party wingnuts. Because, see, “Remember November” sounds like “remember, remember, the fifth of November,” which is an old British rhyme about insurrectionist Guy Fawkes, and … well, that’s close enough. Ten days later, here’s the RGA getting its boots on after the media’s lie has already traveled halfway around the world. My only critique? Time’s Michael Scherer, who I believe started the nonsense about Fawkes, gets a pass while Matthews and Dylan Ratigan get hammered. Is Time too low-profile to bother with anymore?

Consider this yet another point in favor of “epistemic closure,” incidentally. When you can’t rhyme “remember” and “November” without being accused of condoning terrorism, what’s left to talk about? Click the image to watch.

I can see November from my house. They claim they can smell the crude oil on the golf gulf coast. It was smelling after several airplane loads of lawyers landed.

That ad was transparently ____________ , and since you’re not likely to know anything about the obscure symbolic reference they’re obviously using, let us spend ten minutes explaining how you could–if you do enough research on 17th-Century Prussian history–make a symbolic connection between that ad and ______________.

RBMN on May 3, 2010 at 5:09 PM

Good News!

Chris Matthews began hardball tonight by asking a terror expert:
“ARE YOU SURE this isn’t a right wing guy? how are you certain it’s not just a right wing nut that hates the government!?!?”

The expert said “well, it’s not. it has no signs. domestic anti-government terrorism tends to attack… government sites. aka tim mcveigh=FEDERAL BUILDING. times square isn’t the government”

Chris Matthews: “….. ….. um…. “

Remember, remember, come this November
The festering heat they have brought
‘Tis no reason why their assault on Americans
Should ever be forgiven, nor forgot

All you tyrants who lord over us
You who give us the smack of your rod
Soon now we will throw you under your own bus
We will give you the Judgment of God!

Title: September
Artist: Earth, Wind & Fire

Do you remember the 21st night of September?
Love was changing the mind of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away

Uh oh, “September” also rhymes with “remember” and “November” so are Earth, Wind and Fire retroactively in trouble?

PCism – and it’s stupidity and illogical conclusions – confuses me so I apologize in advance for the query.

Branch Rickey on May 3, 2010 at 5:23 PM

Well, well, well. Look which party finally figured out how to make good political advertisements.

I love it. Keep it up RGA!

Paradol Ex on May 3, 2010 at 5:24 PM

That was quite awesome.

terryannonline on May 3, 2010 at 5:25 PM

Whoever is doing this stuff for the RGA is spot on both in message and medium. My old Prof. would be proud to see his ideas so clearly carried out, though as a Canadian he tilted a bit left. Though that was 67, he’d be a right wing extremist today.

This is why Haley Barbour kicks ass!

He was in charge of the RNC back in ’94, and now he’s in charge of the RGA. Sharp, focused, gorgeous, cool ads that stand out from the clutter of usual campaign ads.

Those crazy kids he’s got workin’ for him have some skills.

RGA rips media for smearing “Remember November” ad

translation: the ad did not get the attention we hoped it would; let’s try again.

sesquipedalian on May 3, 2010 at 5:38 PM

If the RGA was referring to Guy Fawkes you’d have to say it was pretty subtle. Some questions:
1. How many people ever heard of Guy Fawkes?
2. Of those, how many knew of what he did?
3. Of those how many knew why?
4. Of those, how many knew it was in November (was it in November?)?

Bollocks!!!!!

I can not only see November from house, I am completely confident, thanks to training provided by your tax dollars, that I can hit it with a 7.62 NATO (or .308 Winchester if you prefer -the case capacity is about 5% greater anyway) from here.

Suck on that libtards.

Oh, and as a consolation, libtards, I’m sure my my absentee ballot from Iraq won’t be counted. Up yours, F you, and hope to see you through the glass someday.

Ha-ha. Just kidding.

docflash on May 3, 2010 at 5:11 PM

With the looters, as we have seen, those threats are jut that. Empty threats as they are in no hurry to actually experience what they what they have in mind for the rest of us.

On the other hand producers in effort to save what little the can, appear to be actually carrying through while staying mum about it. Peopleturning in their passports and renouncing US citizenship is already 400% higher this year than it was for allof last year.

Seems some are Going Galt.

It also seems the the collectivists have taken notice, tucked into last March’s euphamistically named “jobs Bill” are provisions to disaude/penalize those who choose to opt out their dystopian nightmare.

..the clowns who associated the “V” character and the ads the RGA put together dis-remembered that one of the aspects of that slimeball movie was revenge for alleged persecution of people who believed in the Islamic faith in England.

What major tools, getting wrapped around the axle like that.

sesquipedalian on May 3, 2010 at 5:38 PM

Um, no? It got plenty of attention, which you’d know if you paid some yourself. And the RGA is responding to media smears by doubling-down in its campaign.

amerpundit on May 3, 2010 at 6:05 PM

Note: The RGA is raising money, aiming for $1,122,010. If you like the videos, help them keep coming.

amerpundit on May 3, 2010 at 6:06 PM

I’ll say it again, the first Republican that comes right out and says it, that we must destroy the the media’s ability to lie to Americans for the Democratic Party, gets the nomination. All it takes is courage.

drunyan8315 on May 3, 2010 at 6:07 PM

The whole lib complaint about the supposed Guy Fawkes angle is either the libs projecting their own private violent fantasies or raw deception. Why say that? Because when the V for Vendetta movie came out in 2006, they celebrated it’s anti-Bush message.

CNN Headline News Strenuously Ties “V for Vendetta” Dictator to President Bush

V for Vendetta Against Bush

And as Obama says, you should be reading the Huffington Post instead of listening to Rush or Beck:

“V for Vendetta Is The Boldest Political Statement Against The Bush Admin. Since 9/11 Attacks”…

pearson on May 3, 2010 at 6:09 PM

I had a terrible time watching it, too. It kept stopping. But I finally got through it. Almost as good as the brilliant one CatholicVote put out for the 2008 election. The music at the start reminds me of that one. Actually, the first one they did reminded me of it and I wondered if they’d hired some of the folks who had made it. But let’s hope this one has more impact than the CatholicVote one obviously had. :(

pannw on May 3, 2010 at 7:56 PM

Do you realize what a stretch it is to try and turn some Olde English poetry into some kind of militia dog-whistle? Dude; that’s… gay! British!

Did we all rally to “Will I See You in September?” when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? No, we didn’t!

All Real Americans wouldn’t know Guy Fawkes from Guy Lombardo. Guy Fieri, maybe. (Say–are you going to finish that sandwich…?)

That’s like saying “Vote the Bums Out!” is Anti-Hobo. Since when did that become a crime? Oh–wait…

Yeah, one of my sons was born on Nov. 5, Guy Fawkes Day.

The term “guy” for man was initiated by the effigies burned on the Day. If you’re my “guy,” I’m saying you’re as useless or dumb as a straw dummy effigy. “That ‘guy’ over there” meant that dope, that man of ill repute.

Akzed on May 3, 2010 at 8:23 PM

Breitbart says the media is a more important target than the democrats in Washington: the media calls the shots. The media maintains the delusion of the emperor’s clothes. If we can demolish their infrastructure of support, democrats/leftists will be left standing naked in the storm. The political Left has nothing to offer America, nothing that can sustain itself without the daily stream of media-Left propaganda, smears and lies. The media must be confronted, challenged at every turn, and far more than the generally fainthearted GOP seems willing to do.
