Video: Crist’s repulsive speech

posted at 6:40 pm on April 29, 2010 by Allahpundit

Turns out God wants him on the floor, to borrow a line from “Hoosiers,” and also that our political system, which was peachy keen six months ago when he was cruising to the Republican nomination, is now “broken.” You know, Frum made a good point in his post backing Rubio: When Lieberman went indie after losing the 2006 primary to Lamont, at least there were important policy differences at stake. There’s nothing at stake here except ambition. Quoth Jeb Bush, “I am not surprised. This decision is not about policy or principles. It is about what he believes is in his political self-interest.” Try to force yourself to the end or else you’ll miss him insisting that the way to set a “new tone” in D.C. is to send another transparently careerist principle-less politician to Capitol Hill. Works for me.

The GOP onslaught has officially begun and Rove told Fox News this morning that he thinks it’s all downhill from here. Stand by for inevitable news stories announcing defections among his donors and campaign staff.

“PUT PEOPLE ABOVE POLITICS”—-Ad on the right hand side of Hot Air?

You mean…..Putting Charlie Christs’ “career” above the party nomination he just lost?

Tanned, Fired up, and ready to go!!!

Tanned, Fired up, and ready to go!!!

Tanned (is that a overripe Florida Orange shade?)

Fired up (you mean the GOP fired you Charlie?)

Hat eating time for JetBoy…

JohnBG on April 29, 2010 at 8:22 PM

Just goes to show how much of an egomaniac one must be to get into politics in the first place.

But to do something this over the top selfish, it is bound to backfire spectacularly.

tru2tx on April 29, 2010 at 8:27 PM

Well crap. It looks like I’m a racist after all. I don’t know Crist, never listened to a single word or position, don’t have any idea of his background, and I’m disgusted by him. Worse, it seems to be solely because of his skin color.

rogerb on April 29, 2010 at 8:31 PM

“PUT PEOPLE ABOVE POLITICS,” says the Crist banner. More accurately, it should have a talk balloon coming from his tanned mug saying, “To be specific, put ME above YOUR politics!”

Did anyone else expect to hear a ‘YeeeeAARRGH’ at the end of that speech?

But I’d put a fiver on the horseface over his left shoulder to place or show.

And lastly, I’m LMAO that Crist already has two ads placed on Townhall, and they’re posting them on HotAir. Is he so effing dense that he doesn’t know how he has been getting roasted here?

You should be firing your entire staff for wasting this money, Snooki.

Jaibones on April 29, 2010 at 9:04 PM

I’m seeing the Crist advert at the top of this page and laughing at the waste of money.

Put people under politics.
Put people beside politics.
Put people across the hall from politics.
Put people….

Quit puttin’ the people, man!

AshleyTKing on April 29, 2010 at 9:29 PM

Only a RINO or a democrat would call losing a primary fair and square to a better candidate evidence of a “broken” political system. One couldn’t find a more brilliant example of “the system” working than the Rubio-Crist contest — it was all about policy, positions, and issues — and the orange guy lost.

Rational Thought on April 29, 2010 at 9:30 PM

Charlie isn’t really a RINO, Charlie is lying weasel.

Africanus on April 29, 2010 at 9:48 PM

Wow! With this one simple act of political expediency, he’s going to save the country. That’s what he’s saying, right?

My fervent wish for the great state of Florida – unemployment status for both Crist and Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Anyone know if she faces any real opposition?

oldoldbabs on April 29, 2010 at 9:57 PM

I just watched Charlie Crist commit political suicide on national TV. This has been a long time coming but overdue. When Flip-Flop Charlie dissed Rudy in the Republican primary he lost ALL credibility. His demise is overdue and welcome here in Florida.

“Flipped the Switch” for Marco this morning. Really the only political contribution I’ve made since the one for PALIN (and little mccain).

Jay Cost has a funny piece on this on RCP. He’s usually very objective.

He simply couldn’t help himself. He called Crist a fool more than once.

AnninCA on April 30, 2010 at 7:08 AM

That weasel was just on NBC. He said “nobody is asking me for any money back?”

I thought some people were asking for money back.

forest on April 30, 2010 at 7:22 AM

forest on April 30, 2010 at 7:22 AM

People are asking for money back. I’m wondering whether “Mrs. Crist” is running his campaign and keeping him insulated because her being a DC Senate wife was part of the deal. Cornyn said yesterday he was going after the money back. But as Charles Krauthammer said, we now know anything Charlie Crist says has a shelf-life of under three weeks.

Marcus on April 30, 2010 at 7:30 AM

A line edited out of an earlier version of Crist’s speech:

“You don’t understand…..I don’t want to become a lobbyist! Or worse yet, get a REAL job! I want myself in that Senate seat! I need myself in that Senate seat!”

olesparkie on April 30, 2010 at 7:32 AM

…and I saw Marco on Hannity and when asked if they should recover money donated to Crist, and give it to Marco, I was pleasantly surprised when Marco basically said “damn right they should”. Especially funny since his fundraising leads Crist’s by how much?

eh on April 30, 2010 at 7:45 AM

Even though Spector is ahead in the polls, Jay Cost pointed out that he’s yet to get beyond 43% since he switched.

Cost’s point about Crist is that this isn’t the year to try to pull this stunt. He could have simply waited 2 years and then run for the next open seat in the Senate.

This move, according to Cost, will end his political career.

AnninCA on April 30, 2010 at 7:49 AM

being US Senator is a swell job, for sure. but could he have just sucked it up & remained governor? would/could he have been re-elected to that position?

Why don’t the republicans quit letting themselves get SCREWED by this orange man and bring out the pictures you know exist of Christ in his typical drag getup at the Green Iguana club. Tell the truth of his sham marriage to his beard, and finish the career of this pretender!

patriotparty1 on April 30, 2010 at 8:56 AM

Bashing Crist now is fine, but really . . . the national party is at fault here.

Angry Dumbo

No… the National Party is not at fault here! Crist is at fault! When you appear with Obama, as Crist did, and fawn over his Stimulus disaster, as Crist did, you need to accept the result… a poor showing in the polls! Crist should have accepted his fate, like a man, and threw his support to Rubio, like a loyal Republican backing the party. Instead Crist is a weasel, abandoning his core beliefs (if he had any), and trying to win at all costs! Such low life we don’t need, in the state or national party. Speak not his name; he is now persona non grata.

In Crist’s case he is in a very precarious situation with respect to state funded home ower’s insurance for all the folks that love to live on oceanfront or gulf front properties. It is only going to take one big storm and the state of FL is bankrupt. All due to Charlie’s policies. He is on borrowed time anyway, this move is calculated to pluck him out of a tenuous situation and drop him into a country club atmosphere where everyone has their ass stuck up so far in the air they all look like they have two heads or the ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame’.

belad on April 30, 2010 at 10:00 AM

Charlie Crist: “Me, me, I, me, me, me, I, me, me, me,….”

Sounds an awful lot like ‘Der Leader’.

PappaMac on April 30, 2010 at 10:37 AM

Well, there are delusional governors with ‘R’ after their names, and then there are delusional governors with ‘R’ after their names.

Charlie’s probably thinking this — given his short attention span to any office he holds, if he were to win the Senate seat his first action would probably be to start soliciting money for his “Crist in 2012″ campaign — but so far he hasn’t been stupid enough to actually say it in public.

jon1979 on April 30, 2010 at 10:38 AM

Comment testing: test, test, 1..2..3..
Test concluded. Crist sucks. That is all.

DFCtomm on April 30, 2010 at 11:05 AM

This is quite fascinating.

He simply cannot decide whether it is God or his family who have impelled him to go on with this Quixotic mission of his. So, he thanks his family and God, and then quickly corrects the order. God first.

In the beginning, therefore, he thanks God . . . above family, above everything. But he also then thanks his family, including his parents — and proceeds to only introduces his father . . . then almost as an afterthought, includes “Mom.” After that, it’s on to his wife and the three sisters.

The quick succession of “corrections” and additions almost makes it sound like a Saturday Night Live routine!

All that quickly morphs into his declaration of his devotion to the needs of the State and the people . . . above party, above politics, above everything.

The people!

And, he actually ends up saying he is going to stay in this fight because the people are tired of the fighting! Heh! Come again, Chuck?

Charlie Crist is a headcase. I actually feel a little sorry for the guy because he is setting himself up for an embarrassing fall — pun intended.

There is no Lieberman analogy. Joe’ presence convinced the Republican to disappear in the fall race. And there was in this nation — at one time — a tradition among some Democrats to pursue a social agenda AND a strong national defense, so Joe was able to define himself in that tradition.

But what tradition does Charlie Crist appeal to . . . the “ME FIRST!” tradition? The “tired of all this fighting” tradition?

Also, did anybody ask him who he figured he would caucus with if he somehow won? This guy is off on a toot!

Trochilus on April 30, 2010 at 11:19 AM

capejasmine on April 30, 2010 at 11:32 AM

No way, I read Crist’s website earlier this week and he said he’d only run as a Republican and any talk otherwise was just Rubio trying to avoid the issues…

That page is probably still in my cache, let me dig it up…

http://charliecrist.com/2010/04/crist-campaign-rubio-camp-prefers-baseless-rumors-over-talking-about-his-record/

To put these rumors to rest once and for all, as we have said countless times before, Governor Crist is running for the United States Senate as a Republican. He will not run as an Independent or as a No Party Affiliation.
Charlie Crist website April 8 2010

Now it’s time for them to edit google cache to remove any record of his lies promoting his self-interest… oh, google doesn’t let you edit their cache? That’s probably going to be an issue. Don’t they know who he is?

gekkobear on April 30, 2010 at 1:15 PM

What a bunch of BS. If Crist were actually interested in what the people of Florida have to say to him, then no question, he would drop out of this race entirely.

Nobody should be fooled. This is one vain man trying to put himself above literally millions of people, nothing more.

A bunch of trite, hackneyed phrases which, in his messed-up mind, he must think are “winners” cannot substitute for the actual leadership that Crist does not represent or the genuine principles that Crist does not have.

Edouard on April 30, 2010 at 1:30 PM

Easy to see why Crist warmed up to Obama. Both are narcissists.

Crist’s whole speech was about himself: My decision to run as a candidate ..without party .. says more about blah blah than about me….blah blah
It was all ‘I’, ‘Me’, My’ except where he explains what he knows about the people, what the people want,

then he goes back to Me again: I know this is uncharted territory… I need you… I am counting on you …

When Crist said: I pray to my God about this it brought to mind Obama’s pre election interview where he said his definition of ‘sin’ was breaking his own rules

Our narcissistic Me Generation has even created personalized Gods

The most dangerous drug to a narcissist is power. Power validates their own beliefs about themselves. Political office is a addictive to these guys.
