Limbaugh to Arizona’s critics: The time for talk is over

posted at 4:22 pm on April 29, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via the Right Scoop. Silly Rush, doesn’t he know that only The One is entitled to arbitrarily declare public debate over? For instance, remember when he started waving the checkered flag on ObamaCare alllllll the way back in July 2009, eight months before a bill finally passed and weeks before even the first health-care townhalls were held? I’ve got a crazy hunch that the “time for talk” about Arizona’s law, its passage notwithstanding, will drag on for considerably longer than that, albeit not a moment beyond its usefulness as a political football for the White House.

In fact, some Arizona voters are planning to make sure that it does:

A group calling itself One Arizona filed petitions with the state Wednesday to refer Arizona’s new immigration law to the November ballot…

Both efforts require the signatures of 76,682 registered voters within 90 days of the end of the legislative session. With the Legislature working toward an adjournment today, 4/29 that would mean petitions would be due at the end of July…

If organizers fail to make the November ballot, the measure would go before voters in the November 2012 general election. However, the mere filing of the petitions would put the law on hold until it could get before voters in November 2012.

Doesn’t matter. As I’ve said half a dozen times, the chief aim of the law was to spur Congress to act on comprehensive border enforcement and it’s doing a bang-up job on that front. In fact, Reid’s set to introduce a new amnesty bill this afternoon that’s reportedly light on the amnesty and heavy on the security. (I’ll post later when the details are out.) It won’t go anywhere unless it’s really heavy on security, which it won’t be, but the fact that Arizona’s raised national awareness about problems on the border has totally scrambled the Democrats’ plans to use this as a wedge issue. The idea originally was to introduce a comprehensive bill and let the GOP vote no, thereby infuriating Latino voters and mobilizing them for the midterms, but now you’re likely to see boatloads of centrist Dems defecting too. That’s why pols as starkly different as Obama and Boehner are now warning that a new bill might be DOA. And needless to say, the last thing Reid wants to be doing is pushing a bill that’s strongly pro-enforcement, but he has no choice if he wants to keep his promise to Latinos in Nevada to bring some sort of comprehensive bill to the floor. Come to think of it, to the extent that the state referendum in Arizona will postpone enforcement of the law, I wonder if it actually plays into supporters’ laws. The Dems’ best political chance to kill this thing will be if it’s put into practice and civil-rights violations start happening. If it’s not put into practice, they lose that ability and the cries for border enforcement will grow louder.

And of course, if the referendum does come off, it’s a lead-pipe cinch that Arizonans will approve it. Proof of how fringey they are? Not according to this new national poll from Gallup:

gall

It’ll be a long and winding road for this thing in the courts, but for most voters, the time for talk really is over.

In other words, the Dems are totally screwed. They won’t get amnesty. They won’t be able to turn the GOP against each other. And they have to tread very carefully with Arizona and not make it look like the federal government is going after one of the states(and a red one to boot).

Add this to the clusterfark known as Obamacare(sorry, Jon Stewart) as well as the failed Porkulus bill, and tell me again what it is the Dems have to run on in November?

Doughboy on April 29, 2010 at 4:30 PM

But of course the one thing a comprehensive immigration reform bill must not do is SECURE THE BORDER. That would be wacist.

fiatboomer on April 29, 2010 at 4:30 PM

This just gives some dems (like Reid) a platform to show they are not loony leftists, but security minded.

right2bright on April 29, 2010 at 4:30 PM

All this sandbagging from the Party of NO (law enforcement) is just needlessly delaying this law.

They need to pitch in and start helping us solve this problem, not delay things needlessly…

(this is more fun than it should be)

gekkobear on April 29, 2010 at 4:31 PM

The time for talk would not be over if our petulant, childish and sulky President would come down off his high horse long enough to sit down with Arizonans and everyone else caught up in this border mess and try to work out some kind of acceptable inter-rim solution. Instead he’s shamelessly using it for political fodder and issuing threats and opinions right and left. Most of these are deliberatly designed to escalate and perpetuate what has become a serious and in need of solution problem. Ask yourself about the inner workings of a so-called leader who would choose this route. Ask yourself about the fitness of this kind of man to be President.

I personally like it when Rush throws their tactics back at them. He is the master at illustrating a point through exaggeration.

The most obvious statement…I think that could be said of most everyone.
That is what drives people to be successful, they fulfill their dreams, both personal and societal.
A successful corporate cares for his company, but also cares for himself and his family…the two are not mutually exclusive, you can (should) have both desires.
Success for others, and success for yourself…Rush wants GOP to succeed, and he wants himself to succeed, since he is carrying the GOP message.
The “anti” of what he said when he stated he wanted Obama to fail…because his policies are failures.

Yet another chance, seemingly deliberately, missed by Obama to show a sincere and compassionate interest in trying to heal some of the divisions in this country. His tactic seems to be to make them all worse in the name of votes. And where are the members of the Legislature, no matter the Party, who will not stand up and point this out to him. Here’s this opportunity of a lifetime to exhibit studied and genuine care for the People and he(Obama)chooses to use it instead for Party politics. Sick!!!

How about prosecuting those who provide driving licenses to illegals ?
What about prosecuting those who provide IDs of US citizens and SS# to illegals, and the illegals who use them ?
What should we do to those who give welfare, WIC, food-stamps, free housing, free school and free medical to illegals , based on suspicious non-verifiable IDs?
Anything we should do to those banks and lenders who give massive loans to illegals based exclusively on their illegal alien status ?
You got any suggestion on what to do when an employer is sued for discrimination by LaRaza’s thugs for asking an employee / candidate to present a valid non-stolen ID and SS# ?

The talking points issued by the anti-American racists which every lib yaks assumes that illegals are only here for the jobs. NO THEY ARE NOT. They have no need to work when they are getting everything for free. Just because a few illegals are in the work force doesn’t mean that thats a majority of them.
The next time you see a 30 year old pregnant illegal mexican woman , who can’t speak English at all, waiting in a hospital to get a doctor to see her 9 yr old , and she has a kid in a stroller and a 4 yr old and a 6 yr old , ask her 2 questions :

I was listening to Rush today, and it made me think of an impertinent question:

When are conservatives going to stop being girly-girls and accept the fact the feds can’t deport millions of people?

Listening to Rush makes it sound like he thinks anything short of deportation is amnesty. Maybe I’m misinterpreting that, but I’ve listened to Rush since I was in high school, and I’m pretty sure he and most conservatives think mass deportation is a serious policy proposition.

What makes conservatives think the same government that can’t responsibly administer public education or healthcare will be able to prosecute and deport all illegal immigrants? Where’s the money going to come from?

If you think anything short of deportation is amnesty, then you better get used to the idea of amnesty. Crybabies.

Question for the opponents of AZ law: ” Are you saying that the law on the books since the Fifties requiring aliens to carry documentation is racist and reminiscent of Nazi Germany? What exactly is the problem with the state enforcing an existing federal law?

txmomof6 on April 29, 2010 at 5:14 PM

The thing is there really are not that many choices. I think the Democrats have fed the hispanics some line of crap for years to get their vote..and I think that most people on the right know that it is not practical to deport 12 million people. Not all at once anyway.

But it is becoming evident that more has got to be done about the crime coming through that border.

I have tried to get some real information on the fence. Last I heard 760 miles had been built..but I also heard that a lot of the border of Arizona was turned into a funnel thanks to the way the wall was built. So obviously, this wall is not enough. And the drug lords are going to go after any wall you build anyway.

If all we were talking about here were migrant laborers I don’t think it would even be an issue. A guest worker program for seasonal labor would suffice. But there is a lot more people here than that now.

The Democrats will try to pull a 2006 again. I don’t doubt that Soros is out there buying every Mexican flag he can find in the hopes that he can get people screaming and yelling and name calling and all that. After all, these are the same people who said the Tea Partiers were screaming N*gger at them. And I think they actually tried to provoke the Tea Partiers. Provoking people is part of what they do.

And you know what? The problems is not just the federal government, it never was. States like California that have literally begged people to ignore the federal statutes on illegal immigration bear responsibility as well.

So, we are crybabies because we demand that those who break our laws should be sent back to their home country? We are crybabies because we resent the fact that people who are here illegally benefit from our social programs, kill our citizens, violate one law after another and basically spit in the face of our country? I think not. Deportation should be instant and automatic. Period. It won’t cost that much. Simply house them (in a correctional facility) until there are enough to fill a bus, send said bus to the border, drop off the passengers and head north for the next load. For those who hale from a greater distance, fill up a jet once or twice a month. If Nancy-pants Pelosi can requisition herself a jet for family outings, certainly we can afford one to give the criminals a ride home.

The resolution ignited a national controversy which made the city a flashpoint in the Meech Lake Accord debate.

The Sault Ste. Marie resolution was not the first of its kind in Ontario, but Sault Ste. Marie was the largest municipality to pass such a resolution and bore the brunt of the controversy.

10% unemployment, millions of Americans still out of work and a runaway debt.

This weekend’s May Day immigration rallies should garner lots of public support.

The Ugly American on April 29, 2010 at 5:31 PM

Here’s three reasons why the Democrat’s and the Left’s outrage over Arizona’s tough new measures for dealing with illegal aliens will play right into the GOP’s hands.

1. It focuses on the whole notion of state’s rights.

First you have several states challenging whether the forced mandate to buy health insurance is constitutional. Then you have the fact that many Governors are complaining that Obamacare is going to have a grave effect on state budgets. Then you have the fact that more and more people are coming to the conclusion that the Obama administration desires a centralized, command and control type federal government, that tramples all over the freedoms of individual states. Now add to that the Obama administration condemning and trying to hamstring Arizona’s efforts to deal with an out of control problem that the federal government has failed to properly address. When you consider that 60% of Americans (not to mention 70% of Arizonans) approve of Arizona’s new laws, this will be one more piece of evidence that the Obama administration and the Democrats have no respect for state’s rights.

2. We’ve reached the tipping point for politcal correctness.

First you have the government telling us that it’s necessary for 80 year old, wheelchair bound grandmothers from Iowa to be wanded at airports, because God forbid you focus on young, male Muslims. Then you have the Democrats and liberals calling the Tea Partiers racists because they dare to criticize the policies of a Black President. Now you have the Left comparing Arizona to Nazi Germany and Apartheid. People have had enough of this crap.

3. Left wing protests and boycotts over Arizona’s new laws will allow people to compare and contrast Leftist tactics with the Tea Party protests.

For 40 years, the left have been able to stage violent protests where bedlam ensues, knowing full well that these protests will be portrayed sympathetically by the media. Do they really think that if they employ these same tactics after spending tthe last year talking about how angry and unhinged the peaceful, orderly Tea Party protests are that people won’t notice their hypocrisy.

ontherocks on April 29, 2010 at 6:06 PM

It is already illegal to hire an illegal.

angryed on April 29, 2010 at 4:56 PM

A lot of things are already illegal, that’s why Arizona now has a law ENFORCING the law that already exists. I don’t know why people don’t understand this!

speed911 on April 29, 2010 at 4:59 PM

I know. I was responding to someone who said he/she would have preferred a law fining employers for hiring illegals. I pointed out that such a law already exists.

Why does Obama hate strong heterosexual women?

If you think anything short of deportation is amnesty, then you better get used to the idea of amnesty. Crybabies.

You’re an enabler . We don’t need you.

CWforFreedom on April 29, 2010 at 6:25 PM

This is about:
1.) votes, illegal ones and
2.) Pinnochio taking credit for the mass protests that were going to happen on May Day and Cinco De Mayo anyway.
I’m sure the kneepad media will try to show how small the Tea Partiers Protests are in comparison to the Hispanic circus lead by Pinnochio the clown who jumped in front of the parade as it turned the corner.

alohapundit: Noting that link you posted re ObaMao attending the funeral of the woman civil rights leader, this paragraph summarizing ObaMao’s eulogy stands out:

Noting Dr Height’s trademark attire, Obama said, ‘we loved those hats she wore like a crown. Regal.’
He cited her role in desegregating the Young Women’s Christian Association and in leading the National Council of Negro Women with ‘vision and energy, vision and class’. He said her name should be associated with great leaders such as King and W.E.B. DuBois, an early 20th century black nationalist

Wasn’t DuBois a self-identified communist? Isn’t Trinity UCC, Reverend Wright’s bailiwick, one of those “black nationalist” churches?

I really cannot reconcile the insistence of full citizenship as Americans with the demand for caucuses or organizations defined by race; eg., black, hispanic.

Hummer53 on April 29, 2010 at 7:24 PM

Reid’s set to introduce a new amnesty bill this afternoon that’s reportedly light on the amnesty and heavy on the security.

Being “heavy on the security” is meaningless when they are knowingly not going to follow through with actual enforcement.

Bush’s comprehensive amnesty was going to be tough on securing the borders as well… maybe, someday, never.
