Victor Davis Hanson asked these questions in an article at PJTV yesterday(?):

Does the state contravene federal authority by exercising it?

If the federal government does not protect the borders of a state, does the state have a right to do it itself?

Does anyone have any information about case law or plain old American history that might help me answer these questions?

On a side note: I find it interesting blacks are 50/50 – the lowest block of “approval”, when this bill in no way shape or form effects them. Though the premise “cops hate us” is.

I don’t get it either. If I were (falsely) worried about being pulled over for DWB (Driving While Black), then this completely eliminates that fear. This would tend to (falsely) say that now the cops will be focusing on DWB (Driving While Brown) and leave them alone.

Hello! What part of ILLEGAL is so hard to comprehend?!? This is one latino, who considers himself an American only anyway, who wants people that immigrate here who respect the law to begin with - I don't want anyone around who is willing to circumvent and ignore laws as important as those dealing with immigration. That right there shows contempt for our country and if they can break those laws what other laws will they be willing to break?!? Just saying - I know all cases aren't the same but what we're seeing with the crime sprees, protesting and the acting up isn't very pretty. There needs to be some kind of control and the Governor of Arizona showed some real cojones in making her difficult decision. I hope other states follow suit and we need to support our brothers and sisters in Arizona against the idiocy in San Francisco and the other liberal cesspools.

Update: Another worthy caveat from the comments: The sub-sample of Latino likely voters must be relatively small, which would mean a large margin of error. That might explain why Rasmussen didn’t flag it. Just flag this result now for comparison purposes, as there’ll be plenty of more extensive polling in the days ahead.

Not exactly. If “other” encompasses Latino’s, asian and native Americans – within “other’s” latino’s represent 78%, Native Americans 15% and asians 7%.

It is perfectly within the “subgroup” consideration, being 37.5% (30+5+2.5) of AZ total population is that “other” – and again latinos make up 78% of that 37.5%

Had Rasmussen or you Ed stated “Majority of Asians favor…” then it would be a much higher margin of error. Because if what you are updating is true – you may want to rewrite the article and headline…

Legal Hispanics support it because they have nothing to fear from it. Despite the Sharpton/CNN/Obama hysteria, this bill does not give the police power to send anyone named Miguel to jail for 50 years simply for being named Miguel. a Hispanic Arizonan is as affected by the crime, deteriorating public schools and hospital closings due to illegals, as anyone else. Why wouldn’t they support an effort to crack down on the problem?

Some of the most ardent supporters of tough illegal immigration laws I’ve met have been immigrants. Legal immigrants that is. They had to wait in line, fill out never ending forms, pay fees, wait some more before being granted the right to be citizens. And they are pissed off more than you can imagine when they see millions of illegals just showing up and demanding citizenship on the spot.

I’ve heard a lot of RINO types talk about how this bill could hur Republicans with immigrants. Bulls**t. It’s time for the MSM and Republicans to stop listening to “immigrant rights groups” and listen to actual immigrants.
