Quotes of the day

posted at 10:53 pm on April 19, 2010 by Allahpundit

“Criticism is part of the lifeblood of democracy. No one is right all the time. But we should remember that there is a big difference between criticizing a policy or a politician and demonizing the government that guarantees our freedoms and the public servants who enforce our laws.

“We are again dealing with difficulties in a contentious, partisan time. We are more connected than ever before, more able to spread our ideas and beliefs, our anger and fears. As we exercise the right to advocate our views, and as we animate our supporters, we must all assume responsibility for our words and actions before they enter a vast echo chamber and reach those both serious and delirious, connected and unhinged.”

***
“In the world of the Southern Poverty Law Center, the threat is always growing. Ronald Reagan’s policies led to a growing threat. The first Gulf War led to a growing threat. The election of Bill Clinton led to a growing threat. The Internet led to a growing threat. Sept. 11 led to a growing threat. The war in Iraq led to a growing threat. Is it any wonder that Obama’s presidency has, in the SPLC’s estimation, led to a growing threat?

“Hate groups do exist across the political spectrum, and have for a long time. But they have nothing to do with the expressions of frustration over deficits, taxes and Obamacare that we have heard at so many Tea Party gatherings. That frustration, felt by Republicans, independents and even some Democrats, is an entirely mainstream reaction to the sharply activist course the president and congressional leadership have taken. While the level of frustration is indeed a threat, it is a political threat. Ask Democrats running in this November’s elections.”

Oh please. You’re citing “facts” about MM based on hearsay (she’s upset because……so she won’t report on the story…..). Then you have the temerity to say neither one has posted on the story, when MM and Hot Air both have.

Do you have a blog? Why don’t you post on this story with all the relevant links and send it to MM and HA? You know, do your own leg work instead of expecting them to carry the water for you.

They have little if any ability for independent thought and will simply attack anyone who doesn’t fall in line, even when it’s obvious that people like MM are just as corrupt as the people she’s criticizing.

TTheoLogan on April 20, 2010 at 12:16 AM

Yeah, because when we disagree with your conclusion and opinion we lack “independent thought.” You don’t do well with criticism and disagreement, do you?

Metaphorically speaking, of course, of course.

Ooooookay.

People, we should all be very, very grateful that AnninCA is anti-gun and would never own one. There’s no telling what she would do with it.

Doofpundit said it was not political

TTheoLogan on April 20, 2010 at 12:23 AM

You’re a liar.

Maybe the attackers were, in fact, protesters of some anarchist stripe and zeroed in on Brown and Bautsch because they looked like stereotypically well-heeled members of the dreaded bourgeoisie. That would explain the sneering about money and being nicely dressed and it would qualify as a political motive, but not quite the political motive originally imagined by the rumor that they were beaten by mainstream lefties for wearing Palin buttons.

Now f**k off, liar.

It is incredibly ironic that sedition is being used to describe people whose dissent includes calling for a return to the thinking of the Founders and the Constitution.

INC on April 20, 2010 at 12:18 AM

I posted this on the first page of this post. Klein is walking back his “sedition” remarks. (via Newsbusters):

“On the Chris Mathews Show Sunday, I said that some of the right-wing infotainment gasbags–people like Glenn Beck etc.–were nudging up close to the edge of sedition,” Klein wrote in an April 19 post on Time.com’s Swampland blog. “This has caused a bit of a self-righteous ruckus on the right. Let me be clear: dissent isn’t sedition. Questioning an Administration’s policies isn’t sedition. But questioning an Administration’s legitimacy in a manner intended to undermine or overthrow it certainly is.“

AnninCA on April 20, 2010 at 12:36 AM

An armed society greatly reduces the need for armed encounters of this variety. An unarmed society, the government just does as it will. In an armed society, the gov’t has to come in with overwhelming force, bringing attention to the entire matter. They don’t want this. So if there is in fact a legitimate problem with the citizen, they have to build their case according to the law, instead of just barging in and locking people up who stand against them. No legitimate breaking of the law, and the person/people are safe.

bikermailman on April 20, 2010 at 12:40 AM

BTW, I understand this will blow madisonconservative/megs mccain’s mind, but are we going to get an answer as to how much the fact that SRLC denied malkin’s request for an all expenses paid trip to the SRLC has to do with her poo pooing the french quarter political beating?

TXMomof3 on April 20, 2010 at 12:39 AM

Hmmm…are you talking about The Negotiator?

MadisonConservative on April 20, 2010 at 12:42 AM

Into darkness, into danger
Into storms that rip the night
Don’t give in, don’t give up
But give thanks for the glorious fight!

Someone has to face the valley
Rush in, we have to rally and win, boys
When the Clintons of the world are saying not to
By God, you know you’ve got to march on, boys

Never hold back your step for a moment
In spite of all the slanders, never doubt that your courage will grow
Yes, it’s higher and higher
And into the fight against the tyrants we go !

PercyB on April 20, 2010 at 12:43 AM

Damn, you’ve used that chicken all up, now I have to get you another one–man, you’re hard on dead chickens…

I have a picture of it from my trip last fall as my wallpaper. Got perfect blue skies, took the pic from the bottom of the ampitheater, the flag waving in the wind in the foreground. Goosebumps.

bikermailman on April 20, 2010 at 12:44 AM

I say, and will continue to say….this was the end of the teaparties in popular MY opinion.

AnninCA on April 20, 2010 at 12:38 AM

FIFY. This quote comes from a person who has not and will not attend a Tea Party event with “those people.” You’re showing more of your true colors tonight Ann.

conservative pilgrim on April 20, 2010 at 12:44 AM

Yeah, because when we disagree with your conclusion and opinion we lack “independent thought.” You don’t do well with criticism and disagreement, do you?

conservative pilgrim on April 20, 2010 at 12:27 AM

Independent thought is an oxymoron to trolls…

I love that a newscaster’s mistake became such a euphemism. :)

MadisonConservative on April 20, 2010 at 12:44 AM

this was the end of the teaparties in popular opinion..

AnninCA on April 20, 2010 at 12:38 AM

Hmm. Methinks you don’t really fathom what’s at stake at the tea parties, and why they exist. They’ve already been accused of racism, astroturfing and being gun freaks. You really believe this little blip is going to stop them? Or is it wishful thinking?

John the Libertarian on April 20, 2010 at 12:45 AM

Doesn’t that strike you at all? That in any other country, without the veil of false security and head-in-the-sand idealism, you’d be at the mercy of anyone who wanted to hurt you?

MadisonConservative on April 20, 2010 at 12:33 AM

Ann is like all good liberals. She doesn’t practice personal responsibility or self-reliance. In a crisis or emergency, she will dutifully stay put and wait for the government to come and rescue her. If she lived in New Orleans, there would have been news footage of Ann and her rat and her cat on some rooftop, passively waiting to be rescued.

If you are describing Ruby Ridge and the Randy Weaver family, that took place during George Herbert Bush’s presidency.

That’s quite some hypocrisy you have there, water carrier.

Enough said.

Johan Klaus on April 20, 2010 at 12:30 AM

There is much truth to that claim. Several years ago I was staying with a tour group in NO. As I walked back (very quickly) to our hotel–alone–I felt a paranoia that I hadn’t experienced when I visited the same area in the late ’80′s. The streets of bustling, jostling crowds didn’t feel any safer than the one alley that I had to traverse to get to my destination.

Check this out if you want to see the real story on the new orleans that doofpundit and michelle malkin refuse to report on:

TTheoLogan on April 19, 2010 at 11:13 PM

Then in the previous thread (ironically, about off-topic heckling), you wrote

Don’t look to doofpundit for your news. They released a great picture of the suspected main attacker in the french quarter beating. SURPRISE! He was one of the anarchist POLITICAL protesters.

Nope, not political, nothing to see here. Thanks doofpundit and MM!

Have you ever considered starting your own blog, rather than spamming the comment sections of other people’s websites with off-topic posts?

RINO in Name Only on April 20, 2010 at 12:47 AM

You going to shoot someone over the violations into your internet?

AnninCA on April 20, 2010 at 12:36 AM

Would you be ok with it if the government destroyed the economy, took over multiple industries, demanding forced servitude for student loan acceptance and saddled my grandchildren, who aren’t born yet, with more than $100,000 in debt – just to name a few?

I have some beautiful pictures. Some really nice ones of my kids looking like they are going to die of boredom. Are we there yet? Can we leave now?

TXMomof3 on April 20, 2010 at 12:48 AM

No, I hijacked, with actual deliberation, when I brought up the gun rally.

It’s not a mystery why this story isn’t being covered here.

AnninCA on April 20, 2010 at 12:38 AM

Actual deliberation = taking the heat off of Bubba for his incendiary and defamatory remarks.

Hey, maybe the story isn’t being covered here because Ed and Allah didn’t find it particularly newsworthy. There are many things they don’t link to that I often find surprising, but there’s only so much room on the blog. And they’re the editors so . . . why don’t you bring it up to them if you’re so concerned about it?
