Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on April 19, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Well, what do we expect from the man who hailed his own nomination to the Democratic presidential ticket as “the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal”? Barack Obama told Australia’s ABC1 that he sees “commonalities” between himself and Australia’s PM Kevin Rudd, including apparently their totally awesome humility (via JWF):

United States president Barack Obama says he and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd share several personality traits – one of which is humility.

The US president made the comments to the 7.30 Report’s Kerry O’Brien during an interview which will be aired on ABC1 tonight.

O’Brien says during his 20-minute interview with Mr Obama, the US president shed some light on his relationship with Australia’s Prime Minister.

“It was interesting. Diplomats and politicians say nice things about each other when they’re having international chats,” O’Brien said.

But O’Brien says Mr Obama spoke candidly about their relationship – which has in the past been described as a “meeting of minds”.

“He was quite expansive and quite genuine on what he saw as the commonality and connections between [he and Mr Rudd]. One of which was humility,” O’Brien said.

Yes, because the first quality that comes to mind when thinking about President I Won, the man who marveled that Tea Partiers weren’t tossing him hosannas, is award-winning humility.  Note to the White House: It’s fine to praise someone else’s humility.  When you praise your own, you’ve negated your own argument.

Anyone this humble deserves his own theme song.  Here’s an appropriate tune from Mac Davis:

Update (4/22): Media Matters has its knickers in a twist over this, but Australia’s ABC1 did the reporting on it, which I quoted above.  The transcript of the interview shows the reporter asking Obama whether there was a “meeting of the minds” between Rudd and himself, to which Obama answers:

KERRY O’BRIEN: BETWEEN YOU AND KEVIN RUDD. IS THERE A MEETING OF MINDS?

PRESIDENT OBAMA: I really do think there is, you know Kevin is somebody who I probably share as much of a world view as any world leader out there, I find him smart but humble, he works wonderfully well in multilateral settings, he’s always constructive, incisive. And, you know I think he is like me a pragmatic person, I think he comes to the job wanting to provide better opportunities not just for this generation but for the next but I think you know he’s somebody who isn’t an academic, or just thinking about abstract ideas, I think he’s constantly thinking in very practical terms about how to get something done.

So in an answer about how much alike he and Rudd are, Obama agreed with the premise and offered the following qualities in common: smart, humble, constructive, incisive, pragmatic.  Looks like ABC1 had it right.  Maybe Media Matters should learn to read for comprehension.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

That should be the Obamateurism of the Year, much less of the Day. I don’t mind a President taking some time to relax on the weekend, but for the love of God, politics is perception. Think of how insensitive this looks!

Yep. He is the no backup plan President. He is from Chicago. His advisors are mainly from Chicago. And no one thought that a good backup plan might be to come to Chicago and be with the largest Polish community outside of Poland as they mourn and honor their fallen President?

I hope the American Polish community in Chicago saw this and turns on him and all the Dems in November.

And not even taking time to go the the Polish embassy in DC and sign a condolence book? Absolutely disgusting.

Shameful.

After reading the quotes by Øbummer, laughing at the Muppets and Mack singing “Hard to be Humble,” and reminiscing with Ed M. about “the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal,” it dawned on me who else sounds like this. Libtard, lefty trolls sound like Øbummer.
.
How many times has crr6 called us his intellectual inferiors and sounded ignorant in the process? How many times has Bleeds Blue launched into some kind of off-the-wall diatribe about who-knows-what except the whacked-out synapses in his own brain? Think of the other lefty libtard trolls that frequent hotair to display their intellectual and moral superiority in haughty yet sincere disdain.

Øbummer is a troll! A lefty, libtard troll! Øbummer = crr6.

txag92 on April 19, 2010 at 8:41 AM

yep, not getting himself to Poland is pretty horrible. and since the Polish president died in a plane crash, it is all the more memorable, momentous etc. I mean, he is just as dead, but as someone mentioned, politics is all about perception. when someone dies like that–suddenly & violently–more people turn out for the funeral.

and don’t tell me AF1 could not have gotten there. because the president of Georgia got there. and the Russians probably shot at him the whole way.

Obow may not be humble but at least he’s no hypocrite.

Oh, wait…!

The least he could have done is sent a taped message to be played at the funeral for the late Polish president and First Lady. Then again, in his ‘humility’, it might not have lasted less than 17 minutes. Might have also been more about him than Poland’s loss, so maybe his staying home spared the US more embarrassment.

According to other references, it was the reporter who claimed that Obama was “humble”, not the president himself.

Via Breitbart. Actually, I’m posting this to correct a mistaken impression from one of this morning’s Headlines items: As you’ll see, The One does not, in fact, say that he and Kevin Rudd share the virtue of humility. That was the interviewer’s characterization. What he says is that they share a “world view” — which is true, they’re both leftists — and then segues into praising Rudd’s finer qualities, one of which is humility.

The problem with arrogant pricks like ObamaMessiah is that there are others out there who would love to cut him down to size, like Iran and North Korea. With Obozo’s new nuclear policy, rather his non-nuclear policy, I can see countries like them placing a few nuke-tipped missiles on unmarked tramp steamers and sending them towards Israel or our coasts and laughing as the mushroom clouds expand.

Pride before the fall is correct, Trouble is when Obozo falls others will get hurt.

One would think that doing all that bowing would actually make him humble. But if you are doing your masters’ bidding then that probably counteracts that.
