The new currency is obedience

posted at 12:05 pm on April 17, 2010 by Doctor Zero

Tax Day 2010 saw massive demonstrations beneath the still-rising star of the Tea Party, coupled with a darkly amusing sideshow: hilariously incompetent attempts by left-wing operatives to infiltrate the demonstrations, setting up fraudulent photo ops to discredit the Tea Party.  The most notorious organizer of these activities, “Crash the Tea Party” founder Jason Levin, turned out to be a middle-school teacher, and is now under investigation by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission.

Crash the Tea Party produced nothing more than a bit of low comedy, but Levin began the operation with lofty goals.  He boasted of having “65 leaders in major cities around the country,” who were attempting to create a vast network of foot soldiers for their grand attack on Tea Party credibility.  Jim Treacher over at the Daily Caller has preserved Crash the Tea Party’s manifesto for posterity.  (Check out that link, and note the incorrect use of the semicolon in the first paragraph – very encouraging from an educator!  I guess his training to work in the “media lab” put more emphasis on Stalinist theory than punctuation.)  You can see from this manifesto that Levin and his chums didn’t see themselves as the low-wattage goofballs they turned out to be.  They were hardcore warriors in the crusade for social justice, man.

Why are these people so intensely furious at the Tea Party?  After all, it’s a community of concerned citizens, peacefully exercising their right to free speech in an attempt to promote positive social change.  Their vision of positive social change is obviously quite different from that of an Obama-supporting leftist, sincere liberals should respect the Tea Party’s actions in principle, responding in kind with peaceful demonstrations of their own.

Of course, Levin’s group might have considered the tiny size of their counter-demonstrations against the massive Tea Party protests and concluded they would look ridiculous… but I think they also grasped a hidden truth, which average middle-class liberals do not like to contemplate.  It is revealed between the lines of a mission statement that addresses a grassroots movement of outraged taxpayers as if they were a military enemy.

The past two years have seen a profound change occur in the American system.  Our basic currency is no longer the dollar.  People like Jason Levin understand the nature of our new currency, which is obedience.

Obama Democrats worship central planning.  They have repeatedly expressed the belief that only powerful, maternal government can be trusted to allocate the most essential resources, or manage vital industries.  The free market is a playpen, filled with the stuff that isn’t serious enough to merit direct control by the Mother State.  When a particular toy causes the children of the electorate to scream, it is quickly snatched out of the pen.  The free market can’t even be trusted to deal with airline fees for carry-on luggage… which turned out to be a market response to previous government action.  You are expected to sit quietly and swallow your tears if Mother State chooses to beat you over the head with one of your toys.

Central planning is useless if nobody follows the central plans.  Where the free market is persuasive, organizing resources by responding to demand and exploiting opportunity, central planning is coercive.  It must compel obedience to its designs, and compulsion is always necessary.  If people were eager to follow those designs of their own free will, there would be no need for central planning in the first place.

Obedience to the just laws of a minimal government doesn’t replace the currency of freedom – it enhances its value, by creating an environment of trust and cooperation.  Your time is made more valuable by the knowledge you are protected from murder, theft, and fraud.  This broadens the options available to you in life.

When the economy falls under political control, the practical value of your freedom shrivels.  Success becomes determined by the favor of the State, and the exercise of political power.  For example, labor unions are rewarded for their loyalty to the Democrat Party, including proposed public bailouts of their unsustainable pension plans, and exclusive access to government contracts.  Such transactions work both ways, as powerful constituencies trade votes for obedient service from politicians.

The Tea Party is the living incarnation of disobedience.  It is driven by the words and deeds of people who refuse to submit.  Its members demand the return of money and power appropriated by an out-of-control federal government.  They won’t allow their lives to be sculpted by the knives and chisels of penalties and subsidies.  They speak out against an ugly reality that President Obama’s supporters don’t like to confront: political control of the economy consists of directives, which require submission, which can only be assured through punishment.  No matter how benevolent the stated goals of such a system might be, there is nothing benevolent about the methods it must use to attain them.

A Russian dissident once said that the gulags weren’t an unfortunate side effect of Communism – they were the point.  Jason Levin and his Crash the Tea Party minions understand this, and embrace it, because they hate the people who will be ground into fertilizer for the system they support.  By helping to suppress a powerful enemy of the regime, they enjoy the exhilaration of despite, while also serving as volunteer guards for the Treasury where our new currency of obedience is stored.

“Crash the Tea Party” founder Jason Levin actually did the Tea Party movement a GREAT service. By foolishly pretending to be something more than just one person with an axe to grind, he touched off a reaction from the good guys that resulted in several “fakes” and imposters being identified and reported on from coast-to-coast.

Levin’s plan totally backfired. And he may lose his entire career because of it. Sweeeeet!

Is there a better flag for the Tea Party movement than “Don’t Tread on Me”? So basic, so simple, so elegant in it’s message. I would love to see it flown beneath the US flag everywhere leading up to this November (then on to 2012). The Obamacrats won’t know whether to sh*t or go blind.

Before this was moved to Hot Air, I made a ‘surmise’ and am still wondering about it. What would happen if large numbers of the population simply decided not to buy health insurance? Could they all be ‘punished”/ Even if they had arranged not to be eligible for a refund? Even their Fed taxes were paid in full? Can they ‘get’ us all? What might be the ramifications of doing this?

The President came down here [Kennedy Space Center] in his campaign and told these 15,000 workers here at the Space Center that if they would vote for him, that he would protect their jobs. 9,000 of them are about to lose their job. He is speaking before 200, extra hundred people here today only. It’s invitation only. He has not invited a single space worker from this space port to attend. It’s only academics and other high officials from outside of the country. Not one of them is invited to hear the President of the United States, on their own space port, speak today. It would mean they could take anything they wanted out of your pay check or pension–as much as they wanted for what ever they wanted. Just pass a law. If Obama thought he could get away with this, would he?

jeanie on April 17, 2010 at 1:02 PM

I would disagree with your premise as to why Levin chose to do what he did. You are over-thinking the situation by a long shot.

Levin’s problem is codependency. Nothing more.

Ever watch an abused housewife defend her abusive husband? That’s codependency. An enabler. That’s what you’re seeing here.

Liberalism is narcissism. The superiority complex of telling others what is best for them. The need for admiration. The need to feel superior. The need to have followers (codependents).

The liberals of this country are nothing but a mish-mash of narcissists and codependents feeding off of each other.

Codependents seek out narcissists in their life. Whether it be a mate, friends or even political figures to look up to. Levin has attached himself to Obama’s thoughts and policies.

Obama is a narcissist. Without a doubt. In Obama’s case, it is to the degree of being unhealthy. He places his personal need for admiration and accolades above the policies that are best for the United States. I don’t think anyone would debate that. He has shown the propensity for that type of behavior over and over. Everything is somehow about him. Any topic he will twist to be about him. (Tea party protests regarding taxes: Why aren’t they thanking [admiring] me?) Obama is undoubtedly a malignant narcissist.

The ability to demean opponents of his policies (which he views as an extension of his personal self) is easily done without a thought of humanizing his opponents. After all, they aren’t human. No one else in the world is human. They are just a means to his ends. Underlings to look up to him.

People like Levin are the codependents that Obama (and any narcissist) requires. The degree of Obama’s disorder was such that it was like a clarion call to every codependent in the country. They blindly follow every whim for the sake of feeling “completed” by their fellow codependents and narcissists by achieving their approval. The codependents need for “guidance” and “acceptance” dovetails perfectly with the narcissists need to feel superior and living within their air of grandiosity.

Liberalism is a mixture of these narcissists and their codependents on a grand political scale. But make no mistake, it is a disorder.

Defending the indefensible solely due to the actor involved is a sure sign. (Again, go back to the example of an abused housewife who views violence as a bad thing, but will defend her abuser and often try to bear the responsibility for the abuser’s behaviors) Hypocrisy is a symptom of the disorder.

Levin, and others like him, reek of hypocrisy, but march blindly forward in it to defend the narcissist in their life. It’s necessary to continue the symbiotic relationship between them and the superior need for guidance.

There is no thought of the currency of obedience in their minds. It’s much simpler. It’s the common disorder of living in the world of a codependent. Needing to be sure the world he has developed around him is not threatened. No matter how twisted or unhealthy that world is, anything that threatens it needs to be quashed. In any way possible.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. They are hell bent in destroying us. November can’t come fast enough. The damage they can do between now and then is monumental. This does keep me awake at night.
What are our options? The only one is to vote them out. How much civil disobedience are we willing to provide? We’ve never been pushed this hard before. Rush says they are afraid of us, but they keep on keeping on. Obviously they don’t care about being re-elected. What is the answer?

BetseyRoss on April 17, 2010 at 1:36 PM

Obedience? The liberals didn’t think too much of obedience when the Republicans were in control. I think that it is somewhat more than that. What we are faced with in the liberals is their worship of the demagogue they elevated into the presidency and like the zeolots they are they have little tolerance for those that don’t prostate at his feet.

This quote from Theodore Dalrymple relates to the topic at hand:

Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect, and is intended to.

Django on April 17, 2010 at 2:14 PM

Excellent write up, how “obedience” becomes dhimmitude.

I found the imagery surreal and a bit sad: the minorities trying desperately to prove that they were “one of the good ones”; the organizers trying desperately to resolve any racial guilt among the crowd. The message was clear: How could we be intolerant if these multicolored faces feel the same way we do?

It was a farce. This Tea Party wanted to project a mainstream image of a group that is anything but. A New York Times/CBS News poll released on Wednesday found that only 1 percent of Tea Party supporters are black and only 1 percent are Hispanic. It’s almost all white.

And even when compared to other whites, their views are extreme and marginal. For instance, white Tea Party supporters are twice as likely as white independents and eight times as likely as white Democrats to believe that Barack Obama was born in another country.

To Socialists, one is an “Extremist” if a scholar that demands absolutely thorough credentials that stand against investigative research, not simply say-so or propaganda. Marginalize and politically assassinate the scholars amongst the population for showing how the stuck on stupid Ivy League elitists look bad.

To Black Supremacists, all “whites” are evil in a surreal sense, and any non-”white” conservative person is a “sad” beggar for “white” approval.

Suppose you had decided to follow Snowball, with his moonshine of windmills–Snowball, who, as we now know, was no better than a criminal?”

“He fought bravely at the Battle of the Cowshed,” said somebody.

“Bravery is not enough,” said Squealer. “Loyalty and obedience are more important. And as to the Battle of the Cowshed, I believe the time will come when we shall find that Snowball’s part in it was much exaggerated. Discipline, comrades, iron discipline! That is the watchword for today. One false step, and our enemies would be upon us. Surely, comrades, you do not want Jones back?”

Dr. Zero, your observation is absolutely correct. I would like to take this opportunity to show that the current movement is history repeating itself. Only this time we have allowed the wrong people to fill the role of our parents.

As one of the original hippy dippy protesters against the establishment in the 60′s in San Francisco, the “Tea Party” movement share many similarities that prove history repeats itself and we must be prepared not to make the same mistake.
.
1st impressionable young teens and college students basically free of the shadow of discipline, and as human (biological) nature attempting to show their parents or authority figures that they “know it all”.

2nd lacking the discipline of their parents and camaraderie of a family unit, they gravitate to persons or groups that fulfill the gap. But, this new lifestyle oft times runs counter to their previous lifestyle, basic outright rebellion without the violence. However, the figures and groups they join to replace the family unit are those that desire to exercise power and control via their ideals.

3rd upon graduation this new lifestyle meets a life changing event that causes U.S. to snap them back to reality. This event finds U.S. making the proper decision to support ourselves and/or family, on the inside or outside of the new family circle.

If they remain inside the college experience there is no major change in lifestyle, as the status quo of dependence blindly following those people or groups who become providers to fulfill their Maslow needs Physiological Needs, Safety Needs, Needs of Love, Affection and Belongingness, Needs for Esteem, Needs for Self-Actualization via a misguided belief that government was created to meet these needs. At no point in the education process does there appear to be instruction regarding the fact that there is a distinct difference between a need and want. I want a Mercedes Benz, but need transportation.

How many of us as children remember having a conversation with our parents regarding the difference between a want and a need. I do. We have few needs and more wants. Fulfilling you or your families needs first is priority number one. If you have been fortunate enough to acquire/save sufficient resources,(funds, property or belongings) to acquire a more elaborate item that fulfills your need that is your right and the decision is yours to make, no one else.

Today, the “Tea Party” represents U.S. as that individual that needs to show our parents (the government) we know what is right. We are now realizing that there is no discipline within the government (parents/leaders). Now, we are faced with that life changing moment where change is necessary to meet our needs, not continue providing the wants of the minority who are exercising control over our actions.

Therefore, we must adopt a basic call for survival.
