Obama mocks tea partiers: You should thank me for cutting taxes

posted at 8:33 pm on April 15, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via Dan Riehl, this may well be the single most obnoxious soundbite he’s uttered since his immortal bitter/clinger bon mot during the campaign. Which, if I’m not mistaken, also occurred at a fundraiser. Funny, the thoughts that bubble up when he’s among friends.

You’re welcome, America.

President Barack Obama said Thursday he’s amused by the anti-tax tea party protests that have been taking place around Tax Day.

Obama told a fundraiser in Miami that he’s cut taxes, contrary to the claims of protesters.

“You would think they’d be saying thank you,” he said.

At that, many in the crowd at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts stood and yelled, “Thank you!”

Let’s see. For starters, he’s lying: He has raised some taxes, contrary to his campaign pledge two years ago. But more than that, he seems almost to be laughing at people for being concerned about deficits. Did we or did we not learn just last night that a majority of tea partiers think their taxes are fair? They’re not some fanatic “zero tax” movement, in other words. They’re willing to pay what they’re paying now; what they want is a government small enough to make ends meet with what they’re paying. By The One’s logic, if he lowered the top marginal income tax bracket to one percent, we should expect tea partiers to fall on their knees and shout hallelujah even though it would mean annual deficits many times the trillion-dollar leviathans we’re currently saddled with. Anyone think that would happen? Anyone except Obama not yet grasp that conservatives want fiscal responsibility, not lower taxes at any and all costs?

What’s most amazing about this is that everyone understands the feds will need to raise taxes, and soon, to try to put a dent in our Everest of liabilities. That was the entire point of Paul Volcker, Obama’s own advisor, whispering about a VAT a few weeks ago. Tax hikes are simply a fait accompli, due in no small part to The One’s own unprecedented spending, and we’d probably have them already if not for his political cowardice in refusing to demand them before his reelection bid. And yet here he is, actually patting himself on the back for being a tax-cutter. Unbelievable.

If there were three people who fell off your boat — Obama, John Edwards, and Jesse Jackson — but you could only save one, which one would you save?

Tough one….

1. Edwards would wait until his wife dies then sue you and instigate a class action lawsuite against boat manufacturers, video tape the entire episode and poke the videographer
2. Jackson would make a big deal about the racial implications of a black man falling off a white man’s boat. He would demagogue the issue and then quietly go to the boat manufacturers for an annual shakedown payment.
3. Obama would have someone ghost write a book and use the incident and book as a platform to nationalize the boat industry.

But the logic is flawed…trick question. They all would all float and would not be at risk of drowning.

I busted my as$ today at work. Tired as hell.

So I’m driving home, and I hear the ABC News break on the radio – the exact same quote at the top of the thread. The president was “amused.”

It was like being kicked in the face. And made me so ____ing angry.

Because I thought of the many thousands of Americans who traveled long distances in cars and buses, took off work, and spent lots of money that really WASN’T discretionary income, just to get to D.C and make their voices heard.

And this smug, supercilious bastard sits there and dismisses all these Americans out of hand with an immature, insulting quip. Not only does he refuse to listen – he mocks them and basically spits in their face.

There is a snake in the White House. He hates Americans. This is a national emergency.

cane_loader on April 15, 2010 at 9:24 PM

You just make numbers up, don’t you?

Not really. Just a standard anti-obamacare poll will tell you that, with minor adjustments for other interests. Why do you think Mass elected a Republican to Ted Kennedys seat anyway?

percysunshine on April 15, 2010 at 9:25 PM

Lots of people haven’t, and for good reason. The ‘tea party’, whatever it is, is not articulating anything. They’re just mad. You ask them why, and everyone has a different answer…some make sense, some dont. Some center around obamacare being socialist, others center around the national debt, others still around Obama’s very legitimacy. You are not convincing the American people of anything, running around foaming at the mouth like the tea party has thus far.

ernesto on April 15, 2010 at 9:12 PM

1. A large, energized group of people, even if motivated by different reasons, is still a large, energized group of people.
2. If they continue to grow in numbers, due to 1-on-1 recruitment/prosteletizing by individual members, their impact will only increase.
3. Typhoons start out as mere ripples.

Grace_is_sufficient on April 15, 2010 at 9:43 PM

Anyone except Obama not yet grasp that conservatives want fiscal responsibility, not lower taxes at any and all costs?

It’s not just him. I had a discussion with someone this week about who would be more fiscally responsible, the Democrats or the Republicans. (And, let’s face it, when a liberal hears “conservative,” he thinks “Republican.”) He pointed out that Clinton was more fiscally responsible than other recent Presidents. I pointed out that that was because folks like Gingrich held the purse-strings (as witnessed by the shutdown) and we had an unprecedented boom. He responded that he was frustrated arguing with someone who gave him no facts and was just a partisan ideologue.

So, no, Obama’s not alone. How do you think he became President in the first place?

calbear on April 15, 2010 at 9:43 PM

If there were three people who fell off your boat — Obama, John Edwards, and Jesse Jackson — but you could only save one, which one would you save? – TXUS

This is a trick question, right? One is black, one is white and one is mixed.

Regarding your question – I don’t like liars and game players. You have in the past admitted you are both.

CWforFreedom on April 15, 2010 at 10:07 PM

So you’re the one who’s mad. Why? Are you that immature, that you need to lash out like this?

ernesto on April 15, 2010 at 10:11 PM

Straw man arguments & big lies. Columbia & Harvard must be so proud.

motionview on April 15, 2010 at 10:11 PM

I attended the Tea Party in DC today and two groups of people showed up with 10′ long banner signs that read “The other 95% thank you for their tax cuts Mr President”… I don’t recall the exact wording but it was something like that. I wondered who they were and what the heck they were talking about. Those signs were huge and had to cost several hundred dollars. Who sponsered them? Is it a simple coincidence that the same day Obama says he should be thanked a group of people start waving around a thank you sign? I doubt it.

The string with the little tag fell off his tea bag?

I think the string came off his tea bag a long time ago.

RC is always out there, watching, waiting, like…like…the hammer of doom, preparing to crush the unwary racists who don’t even know they’re racist.

I would save myself by rowing away from those three losers as fast as I could.

It’s too bad that Barry Boy does not stick around DC when the taxpayers rally in protest.

Is it only me? Or is there anyone else out there that is starting to believe this Prez is certifiably nuts? He just isn’t right in the head! God help us until we can get him out of the WH in 2012……………

SEIG HIEL!
(I think I spelled it wrong….but you get the point)

CynicalOptimist on April 15, 2010 at 9:10 PM

Yes, but the vowels are 100% wrong, which shows great consistency!!

[sieg heil. Like a lot of German words, the ei and ei are pronounced pretty much the opposite of what you would expect in English]

Look to your left, look to your right, and then guess who has the foam on his mouth.

percysunshine on April 15, 2010 at 9:16 PM

It’s not foam that is on his mouth.

thomasaur on April 15, 2010 at 9:18 PM

Actually, I remember watching my brother eat a bar of soap for telling a lie to my mother, and he DID foam at the mouth! It was a good lesson; he’s one of the most honest people I know today…Obama could profit from such a lesson.

Psychologically speaking, Barack Obama has some fairly serious issues. He had a father who left him and a mother who abandoned him to grandparents while she went along her way. I’d say he has a very strong hatred for white women based upon his issues with his mother. The fact that he attended Rev. Wright’s hate-filled church for over twenty years probably skewed his thinking, vis-a-vis white people and how they are the reason for all of the black suffering in the world.
I suspect the man will have a breakdown very soon and it will not be a joking matter.

Maybe we should just keep race out these issues, that would seem to be the most sensible course of action.
