Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on April 12, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

I saw this on Saturday when Andrew Malcolm published Barack Obama’s weekend address, but Jammie Wearing Fool got to it first.  Obama just signed his health-care overhaul that will make millions of people dependent on federal subsidies in order to comply with a new federal mandate for purchasing health insurance.  He expanded Medicaid in order to make millions more eligible for Medicaid coverage, a welfare program funded by federal and state taxes.  So guess what lesson he claims to have learned from meeting Americans all across the nation?

“No one I’ve met is looking for a handout.”

Can you quit proposing them, then, Mr. President?

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

“No one I’ve met is looking for a handout.”

But he is giving them out anyway.

cozmo on April 12, 2010 at 8:08 AM

Can you quit proposing them, then, Mr. President?

Proposing, no. Forcing it down their throats is more accurate. Creating a dependant society, one bill at a time.

DuctTapeMyBrain on April 12, 2010 at 8:08 AM

Hand out. Face palm. Whatever….

apostic on April 12, 2010 at 8:10 AM

This is just flat out dishonest. I’d get all worked up, but it only happens on days when the sun rises.

dear leader: ‘I just can’t quit you’

cmsinaz on April 12, 2010 at 8:13 AM

“Can you quit proposing them, then, Mr. President?”

Exactly.

Barry’s agenda consists of giving America what 85% percent don’t want because it’s ‘fair’ to the 15%. Barry relates to this 15% even though throughout his life, he has never had anything in common with them.

Barry knows better than anyone what’s best for America.

Yep, “proposing” is a bit of an understatement at this point. They have also passed a bunch of “tax credits”, dutifully reported by the MSM as “tax cuts” that largely consist of transfer payments to folks paying little or no Federal income tax. Handouts are now passing for “tax cuts” – it’s surreal.

Porkulus included a bunch of massive handouts to the states who failed to plan for any downturn in the economy too. Handouts to states have been described as “funding for shovel ready infrastructure jobs” – sheesh.

It’s a handout blitz.

Pathological. The President of the United States is insane.

Skandia Recluse on April 12, 2010 at 8:15 AM

NOBODY IS LOOKING FOR A HANDOUT???

You got elected by people who expected you to give them handouts. But you know that already, Liar in chief.

So he’s never met his auntie living in Boston?

jbh45 on April 12, 2010 at 8:16 AM

Is there a rehab for liars? If so…I think we need an intervention.

milwife88 on April 12, 2010 at 8:17 AM

Well he’s probably never actually met Peggy Joseph.

I’d like to know what he said that gave her the idea she would never have to buy gas again or pay her mortgage. That still has me puzzled.

Must be like a dog whistle – that only certain types of his voting block can hear it.

Once again, correctly pointing out Ed’s sugarcoating of the issue.

“But, it depends on your definition of ‘handout’.”
Wattsa madda yu?

Cybergeezer on April 12, 2010 at 8:29 AM

So Barry doesn’t know anybody in the 50% of the population that doesn’t pay taxes. That figures.

JimK on April 12, 2010 at 8:31 AM

These are not ‘handouts in Obamaspeak; They are his interpretation of “All men are created equal”.
It’s that darn Constitutional flaw again.

Cybergeezer on April 12, 2010 at 8:32 AM

He likes those handouts but not vouchers for inner city school kids.

ted c on April 12, 2010 at 8:45 AM

Ummm, it’s not about handouts – it’s about power. Power to tax, power to shape society, power to control the economy, power to institute a loyal and compliant bureaucracy and voter base.
.
Where’s all the money I have paid into FICA and Medicare all these years? How much interest did my payments earn? OH! The trust fund is all IOU from the Federal Government? Looks like the General Fund is going to bail me out, just like I bailed out the General Fund.

ExpressoBold on April 12, 2010 at 8:47 AM

WTF? Nobody you’ve met wants a handout? And you hang around democrats?

pablo5108 on April 12, 2010 at 8:47 AM

The one thing Bambi does have in common with the 15%is that he has been living on one kind of handout or other all his life.Except for the short time that his Harvard Law degree secured him a position as a research assistant,he has never worked a job that wasn’t tax-payer funded.By the way,has anybody found out who paid his colledge tuition?

DDT on April 12, 2010 at 8:52 AM

He is flat out liar. And he has created a whole new class of handout lovers. This 99 weeks of unemployment has got me going. I’ve heard 2 people in less then a week not ready to take on a new job because they don’t want to mess up their unemployment.

For one day I’d like to live in Obama’s fantasy world. It seems like a fun place to be.

sherry on April 12, 2010 at 9:00 AM

This issue is one of the clearest. The Democratic base made it very clear that they want a cadillac insurance program for pretty much free.

And the Right made it clear that proposal is preposterous.

Somewhere in the middle?

Reality.

AnninCA on April 12, 2010 at 9:03 AM

Nobody’s looking for a handout but they sure do like to take them when I’m tossing them out. This is what he was thinkin’ but didn’t have the cohones to say, or maybe it’s totus that lacks the where with all, the poor thing does get knocked over from time to time to keep it in it’s place.

Skandia Recluse on April 12, 2010 at 8:15 AM

Yes, but we have to be civil about mentioning it or we get another lecture from the smartest man in the room.

Extrafishy on April 12, 2010 at 9:23 AM

“No one I’ve met is looking for a handout.”

One does not need to look for something that is handed to them…
They don’t “look” they expect…

JKotthoff on April 12, 2010 at 10:11 AM

I thought people he ‘met’ were carefully screened.

After the Joe The Plumber ‘incident’, no handler of Obama’s is going to have HIM near a normal person / crowd.

nobody remembers henrietta hughes…. the woman that asked for a house w/ a kitchen and bathroom as well as a car? she directly asked the dear leader at a townhall meeting. i guess since she is black it’s not really a handout in O’s mind. it’s restitution. good grief.

The lady at the Florida townhall who asked him for a free house and car.

And every single member of every community he ever organized.

TXUS on April 12, 2010 at 8:14 AM

To that list, I’d like to add:

1) The hundreds of people who stood in line in Detriot waiting for their “Obama money.”

2) Every leftist with whom I’ve ever bothered to discuss Obamacare. They all want their “free stuff” without giving a thought to the consequences.

“No one I’ve met is looking for a handout.”

EXPLANATION: Obama refuses to meet with people outside his select group of communist elites (these are the ones who already have their handouts). The outsiders (those he’s never met) are the ones who Obama tries to buy with handouts.

landlines on April 12, 2010 at 3:51 PM

I agree it’s literally true given his circle of associates.

Maybe what is left unsaid though is, “but I will fix that.”
