Media Matters to Rupert Murdoch: Can you name one Democrat on Fox?
posted at 9:17 pm on April 7, 2010 by Allahpundit
Media Matters watches enough Fox that they can rattle off names like Colmes, Beckel, Geraldo, and Juan Williams faster than Murdoch can, but in this case a dumb question makes for a fun answer. Quote: “Greta Van Susteren is certainly close to the Democratic Party.” Heh. He’s right — Greta’s husband was a longtime Democrat, albeit one who flipped to support McCain/Palin in 2008 — but … really? No more obvious candidates than Greta come to mind? No one who’s, say, on FNC for multiple hours a day and whose apparent political leanings have long been commented upon within the ‘sphere? Good lord, man — if you’re not going to name Shep, at least mention KP.
That’s the first of two clips; the other catches him saying that Fox shouldn’t be supporting the tea party or any other party, although it sounds like he’s not clear on what Media Matters is talking about.
Update: Media Matters e-mails to say that they only asked Murdoch the question about the tea party; the question about Democrats on Fox was asked by a student. I stand corrected.

Rupert is a busy man with many enterprises other than FNC. Why would he be interested in the party affiliation of his employees. If he were to pay that close of attention and some dem stool were fired they could use it against him in a wrongful termination suit. He should have said that as long as his employees do their jobs he could care less about their political leanings. Kind of the way Ailes handles it.

So, by default, they are admitting that democrats can’t report the news straight?

This is this little no-context shell game that pieces of sheet libs try to pull all the time. Ok, MM, how about we go all the way with this line of questioning: Out every journalist who voted for Thug-In-Chief, then out ever journalist who voted for McCain…compare numbers. Not just one network, every F’CK ONE.
Will never happen, because pseudo-American progressives never want to present the entire story, only out of context slices which they can exploit for political fodder. And they are fully aware of the lefty propaganda monopoly they once enjoyed.
F’n scumbags, the entire disingenuous lot of them and they need go suck Castro’s kock on location instead of just masturbating to the fantasy of it. Get them out of this country before it is too late.

One last thought about this from me – on watching this tonight on Olbermann’s show there was a smile from me and NOT Ms. Olbermann when his guest (who is supposed to parrot every thing the host says) said: “Listen Keith, Murdoch is not worrying about this. He’s laughing all the way to the bank.”

There is probably some government code that Mr. Murdoch could recite where it is against the law to ask an employee their political persuasion. Media Matters has a lot of nerve.

A few years ago I read that there are(were) MOSTLY registered Democrats at Fox but I’d be willing to bet many have flipped to “Independent” now, plus the natural turnover of “talent”.
One that actually surprised me back then (guess it’s been a really long time ago) was E.D. Hill when she was on Fox and Friends. She admitted she was a registered “D”.

Last time I checked, Soros tool Media Matters still had a regular page dedicated to “corrections”, but NB did not.
Del Dolemonte on April 7, 2010 at 9:46 PM
Well, I’m not Media Matters, but I’ll take a stab.
PMS.DNC: Joe Scarboro, though I don’t know how ‘conservative’ I would put him, but he at least held office as a Republican.
CNN: Didn’t they just hire Eric Erikson?
ABC: George Will. ’nuff said.
NBC: Used to see Mary Matlin on Meet The DePressed on a regular basis, and refuse to watch it since Russert passed on.
CBS: Hmm, got me there. Not a clue.
Compare the “Token Conservative” on each of these to the plethora of Democrats that make regular appearances on FNC. Only one I named above is a host, and the rest are seldom seen. But, if you count the Shepster, maybe Jerry Rivers, and Greta, that’s at least three Democrat hosts of their assigned programming.
In the case of Greta, however, I have to admit that she tends to do very good at not flaunting her politics. She lets it be known when something in DC disgusts her, such as some
stimulusporkulus slush fund cash going to something totally outragous. Otherwise, she seems more like the courtroom lawyer and prosecutor, even with political interviews and topics. But yeah, I can totally see it, dude. FOX is completely biased, and they LIE, and all that stuff. /sarc.
JamesLee on April 7, 2010 at 9:46 PM
Is this pick on Fox week? Fox is a successful news organization, and success is a no no with this administration. Oh, and let us not forget the twit, Coburn.

I would only count Geraldo because the others are just guests (until Colmes gets the alleged “show on Fox” he is working on that he left Hannity for).
Glenn Jericho on April 7, 2010 at 9:48 PM
It’s not the business of a boss to rattle off the political affiliations of his employees. It was a dumb question by Media Matters. If they want to know the political affiliation of FOX employees, ask them directly.

I’ll say! Or at least I would, if I thought she was still a liberal. Most of her guests are conservative, and she routinely lobs softballs at them. Which is fine (and she has the ratings to back up her approach), but odd coming from a former prosecutor.
The only host on Fox News who is liberal, and routinely acts like one, is Geraldo.

jdkchem on April 7, 2010 at 11:38 PM
Nope. Try again, and learn what ‘Catch-22′ means. I wrote that he has no obligation to reveal anything. Where is the Catch-22?? Not only does he have no obligation to answer the question, I believe he may be legally obligated to NOT answer the question. Revealing personal information about one’s employees is a no-no. Catch-22 is a quandry. Murdoch has no quandry. He doesn’t have to answer the question, it was an inappropriate question, and his failue to answer the question doesn’t cast him in a negative light whatsoever. There is no dilemma here. No Catch-22 for him at all.
joejm65 on April 7, 2010 at 11:48 PM
Media Matters pays far more attention to Fox News than Rupert Murdoch does. That’s why Roger Ailes has a job.
But I guarantee you that Rupert has a firm grasp on FNC’s bottom line, a subject Soros Matters would rather not discuss.
Pablo on April 7, 2010 at 11:49 PM
Can someone tell me why these liberal d-bags are always ignoring the elephant in the room (MSNBC)? Granted, MSNBC does not have near the number of viewers or subscribers that Fox News does, but they are still a mainstream basic cable channel. It’s not like they have the subscriber numbers of say, Current TV. The blatant hypocrisy really bugs me.
In fact, I’ve seen reporters on Fox News lately routinely ask the interviewee questions from the liberal point of view. Does Fox News have a conservative point of view most of the time? Yes. All of their editorial hosts are conservatives. But then again, all, except for Joe Scarborough, on MSNBC are liberals. Even Joe’s show is balanced out with Mika and the rest of the regular nutty crew.
I just don’t get what all the fuss is about. I guess once they get “marching orders” from the Obama administration, they don’t have to face reality.
