Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on April 6, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

This is one of those human moments that happens to everyone, including me. Pee Wee Herman made a classic gag of it, doing pratfalls and bouncing back to his feet with a snotty “I meant to do that!” It may seem a bit churlish to poke fun at a Presidential pratfall, but if so, then Americans have a long history of churlishness, starting at least with Gerald Ford climbing into Air Force One and ending with the gales of laughter heard over Barack Obama’s predecessor choking on a pretzel.

Get into the spirit of presidential humor, via American Power and AOSHQ:

Hey, even if no one else does, it looks like Obama’s laughing at it…

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

Ha! Well, he wasn’t hurt, so it’s OK to chuckle.

Kind of an eerie metaphor as well.

I don’t think he’s laughing at himself after the recovery. I don’t think he has the capability.

Witness how defensive he was about his bad pitch yesterday. I bigger man would’ve said, “wow, yeah. That wasn’t good, was it?” Not, “no fair — I pitched like a total pro while I was practicing.”

S. Weasel on April 6, 2010 at 8:12 AM

Frankly, I don’t even think he took a major spill. The guy right there doesn’t show any reaction. C’mon, the prez goes ankles over “ahem” right in front of you and you don’t even flinch?

It’s just that he is more used to walking on water.

Lessons from a teacher:

Teacher gives directions and teaches all year long: students hear blah, blah, blah.

Teacher catches foot on carpet and almost falls: talk of the lunchroom for a week.

I don’t know why, but watching your superiors trip is incredibly entertaining.

Grace_is_sufficient on April 6, 2010 at 8:17 AM

Too busy watching who is watching him to notice the curb. Dolt.

He absolutely lacks the ability to laugh at himself. Common feature of the oh-so-earnest ideologue.

ProfessorMiao on April 6, 2010 at 8:21 AM

He meant to do that just to show his human side.

JammieWearingFool on April 6, 2010 at 8:21 AM

Actually, since there was no reaction from anyone standing around, I don’t think he tripped at all. I think he just ducked down to see his reflection in the car windows. He just can’t get enough of himself.

Barb Dwyer on April 6, 2010 at 8:21 AM

And you were the greatest President ever, solving every problem effortlessly, when you were stoned in college too.

Reality is a usually harder than practicing Barry.

And tomorrow, there will be an Executive Order countermanding the law of gravity.

trubble on April 6, 2010 at 8:28 AM

It looks like he’s bending down to pick up something that he dropped, like maybe the ball on the entire economy.

flytier on April 6, 2010 at 8:29 AM

I notice that the Secret Service just stood there looking at him fall and pick himself back up. Hmmmm.

The Gerald Ford of a new generation!

DuctTapeMyBrain on April 6, 2010 at 8:32 AM

He inherited that curb from his predecessor and he’d rather we just all get out of the way while he cleans up the curb.

SoRight on April 6, 2010 at 8:32 AM

Curb tax on it’s way.

darwin on April 6, 2010 at 8:41 AM

You misinterpreted this. He was BOWING to the SUV. It’s what he does. He bows to his superiors.

Or…he was walking and tried to think at the same time. Always difficult for a liberal.

Jarhead68 on April 6, 2010 at 8:49 AM

. He was BOWING to the SUV

He wouldn’t bow to an SUV. They are evil polluters. Maybe there was a Mini Cooper parked next to it.

Beaglemom on April 6, 2010 at 8:51 AM

If he hadn’t been looking at the cameras but watched where he walked………..

katablog.com on April 6, 2010 at 8:51 AM

Talk about luck.

Probably the only time a Democrat thanked God for an SUV.

Chevy Chase made a career on poor impersonations of Gerald Ford.

When do we get to see that elderly dolt coming back with a clumsy Obama imitation?

Hening on April 6, 2010 at 8:58 AM

Looking far to his left, Barack Obama stumbled while again ignoring that which is in front of him–”one small step for man, one giant fall for this nation”.

Rovin on April 6, 2010 at 9:00 AM

He ducked down for a couple of quick drags on a smoke.

mrt721 on April 6, 2010 at 9:05 AM

Playing it off like it never even happened is one thing…would’ve been better if he’d turned around, pointed, and said “have that removed.”

Youngs98 on April 6, 2010 at 9:05 AM

He tripped over the last person he through under the bus.

He was doing a deep knee bend. I sure would hate to have cameras focused on me constantly. It would become an epic classic on the very definition of the word grace. Falling up stairs is an art form.

That will teach him to look around while he’s walking. Better to concentrate on one thing at a time.

GarandFan on April 6, 2010 at 10:42 AM

Obama demands that all curbs be flattened and replaced by \”gutterless transitions\”…

Naturally, the IRS will enforce this…

…and the resulting flooding is YOUR problem…

He saw a little coke on the sidewalk and decided to snort it before somebody walked in it. He’s just protecting his Secret Service detail from false drug test screening.

Yes it is. But it’s even funnier when a jug-eared, arrogant, socialist dope does it!

Tim_CA on April 6, 2010 at 11:39 AM

Notice how nobody around him reacts – this must happen all of the time! “(yawn)…the dope tripped again (probably trying to catch his reflection in the sideview mirror – act like you didn’t notice).”

Somehow, I don’t see Chevy Chase (or any current SNL talent) presenting this on the show the way they did to Ford.

If that was Bill Clinton, of course, we’d all want to know who she was?
