Video: Shea-Porter plays April Fool’s joke on town hall

posted at 11:36 am on April 2, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

“This is going to be paid for, and it’s going to reduce the deficit!” Carol Shea-Porter tells her New Hampshire constituents a great April Fool’s joke, but they only laugh for a moment. She eventually tries offering the “martyr” defense by saying that members of Congress make so much money that the new taxes will wind up applying to them, but that doesn’t seem to impress anyone, either. “What about the CBO estimate?” one man yells, referring to the CBO reply to Paul Ryan showing ObamaCare to be a budget buster, and a woman yells, “You broke the Constitution!”

Maybe she needs better comedy writers?

Shea-Porter will face a serious challenge from Republicans in NH-01, probably Frank Guinta, who is the most prominent GOP candidate thus far declared for the primary. Most of Shea-Porter’s colleagues are avoiding discussions of ObamaCare like the electoral plague it will be. Shea-Porter might want to do the same — but her constituents won’t let her get away with it.

Hey Aunt Bea, leave the comedy stuff to Don Knotts and Otis the drunk, you’re falling flat here.

We’re the April Fool’s joke for electing worthless idiots like Shea-Porter, who do nothing but recite tired, lying talking points.

I cannot wait to vote for her opponent in November!

This will essentially be the first time she’s ever had to campaign while defending an actual record, and not riding a slogan across the finish line.

2006: I’m not George Bush!
2008: Hope! Change!
2010: Um…RACISTS!

I can hear her now…

But.. but… but… Obowma said if I voted for it, everything would be OK?

… Wait a minute, I may actually loose this cushy job!

Seven Percent Solution on April 2, 2010 at 11:45 AM

Ah yes, the people will just love Obamacare and soon forget what Congress did…

As the amount of discussions now go up as more is found out about the thing, this concept on the Left needs some serious revision. Perhaps manuals like ‘Sepuku for Dummies’ or ‘Cross-Training to Avoid Tar and Feathering’ or ‘Rail Riding 101′. That is if these Congresscritters can read.

I’m coming to doubt that last part.

ajacksonian on April 2, 2010 at 11:46 AM

The economy is going to continue to crap the bed after partially digesting Obamacare.

The senseless census workers will be laid off at the end of summer, just in time to fire yet another torpedo at the HMS Hopeychange.

It’s all over but the shouting for this she-jackass, why she’s even bothering to hold a Town Hall is the real question.

NoDonkey on April 2, 2010 at 11:47 AM

So she’s basically saying, “Hey we in congress have to pay this extra tax too you know, and we get nothing for it, but you suckers have to pay the tax and also watch your health services go down the sewer. Bwaaaaahhhhh”

rjoco1 on April 2, 2010 at 12:35 PM

When Obama has to tax those earning $250K/$200K at 100 percent then the collapse will be complete. Somehow Democrats think taxation is fair if it only taxes certain classes of people.

Theophile on April 2, 2010 at 12:48 PM

What a piece of garbage! She stands there and spouting BS talking points and acts all sanctimonious about how her taxes are going up. More than half of Congress is made up of millionaires. Like they give a crap about paying a little more in taxes?! Shoot, most of them don’t pay them at all(*cough* Rangel, Geithner *cough*).

If I’d been in that room, I would’ve told her that line Kevin Spacey has in The Ref(one of the most underrated movies ever):

“You know what I’m going to get you next Christmas? A big wooden cross, so that every time you feel unappreciated for your sacrifices, you can climb on up and nail yourself to it.”

Doughboy on April 2, 2010 at 12:52 PM

She eventually tries offering the “martyr” defense by saying that members of Congress make so much money that the new taxes will wind up applying to them, and if it wasn’t for that exemption for Congressional members and staffers, I’d be upset about it too!

Bills are for PASSING, not READING, doncha know.

VelvetElvis on April 2, 2010 at 1:00 PM

Carol Che-Porter had better start looking for a job now.

As Bill Murray said to his secretary in Ghostbusters, “A person of your qualifications should have no trouble at all finding a top-flight job in either the housecleaning or foodservice industries.”

UltimateBob on April 2, 2010 at 1:01 PM

They voted to tax themselves? What? I thought only those who made more than $200,000 were being taxed. The salary of a rank and file congress-person is $174,000. Majority and Minority Leaders receive $193,400. Only the Speaker of the House makes more than $200,000 per year ($223,500).

Therefore, no member of congress other than the speaker should receive a tax increase because they don’t meet the $200,000 threshold. Or could it be, that the $200,000 threshold is just a lie and those in the “middle class” are also being taxed.

So, she is either lying about voting to have her taxes raised, or she was lying that only the rich will have their taxes increased. Either way, she is lying!

This is the same “administration” that uses Medicare’s “low administrative cost” to beat up on the insurance companies.

Sure, it’s cheap to rubber stamp claims, but that’s why Medicare is losing $60 billion plus per year on fraud.
