Video: The greatest action movie evah?
posted at 8:04 pm on April 1, 2010 by Allahpundit
Well, no — it looks like a fairly standard, albeit enjoyable, paramilitary caper — but it does happen to have the greatest action movie cast evah. I won’t spoil the surprise except to say that it was written and directed by Stallone as a tribute to flicks of decades past and that you shouldn’t look away or else you’ll miss some killer uncredited “was that who I think it was?” cameos. If you’re a fan of 80s action blockbusters, you will plotz. Oh yes.
Palate-cleansing exit question: Did Van Damme and Seagal really turn down roles in this joyride? At this point in their careers, they should have paid Sly for the privilege.

I think you were referring to Thomas Jane, but ironically Dolph Lundgren himself once played the Punisher back in the late 80′s. It just never reached theaters.
As for The Expendables, it looks like schlock, but as long as it’s entertaining schlock, I’m there. They sure as hell better not release this as PG-13 though! I heard they have a PG-13 cut and an R-rated one. I have a bad feeling the former will be released in theaters and the latter will be saved for DVD/Blu-ray(i.e. Live Free or Die Soft).
Doughboy on April 1, 2010 at 9:20 PM
Lotsa bang and kaboom.
All of the above and then some.
BTW – was it my imagination or did it look like they were going after some Chavez wannabe clone as the target?
If so, bonus points!
F*ck yeah, I’m in.
CPT. Charles on April 1, 2010 at 9:21 PM
I’ve been waiting on this one for a while now. I can’t wait to see this!
Having no Chuck Norris does hurt though. Also, I was hoping there would be a fight scene between Stallone and Arnold…not sure if this movie is going to have that.
Daemonocracy on April 1, 2010 at 9:21 PM
I think Stallone had a hard time writing in a character who is Jewish but thinks he’s a Native American.

This is like every 80s child’s dream.
I am SO seeing that.

absolutely thanks…
…it always reminds us of our ambassadorship role- who we represent in every action-

yeah man, we used to talk about ”Terminator vs Predator” or Sly and Chuck Norris … remember the SNL skit ”Die Foreigner Die”

Evah!
Pablo Snooze on April 1, 2010 at 9:45 PM
Who’s the better action star? Stallone or Schwarznegger?
I’m going to say Stallone. Rocky and Rambo are two of the most iconic characters in film. Schwarzenegger has kick ass movies like the Terminator (and T2), Predator, Total Recall, etc., but none of those stack up to Rocky IV. Rocky IV is arguably the greatest picture of all time. Reagan gets too much credit for ending the Cold War…what about Balboa beating up Drago (If I can change, and you can change….everybody can change!)?

I’m with you on that one. This should make for great big-screen viewing, as well as provide plenty of material for the RiffTrax guys.

If Mel Gibson were in this with the V8 Interceptor, it would be so awesome as to be banned in Europe for being way too awesome.
I’ll take it.

Stallone really needs to lay off the botox, though.

Cameo Alert: What’s the over/under on Jesse Ventura having time to bleed in this flick?
Bruno Strozek on April 1, 2010 at 10:35 PM
He ain’t got time to bleed. I’ve been chewing Redman ever since Predator since I was told it would turn me into a goddamn sexual tyrannosaurus like Jesse the Body Ventura.
Shock the Monkey on April 1, 2010 at 10:44 PM
Does. Look. Bloody. Awesome.
Can’t wait….

In a world…
What, no Sarah Connor?
The Ugly American on April 1, 2010 at 10:46 PM
Firstly, I apologize for going all Jack Lalanne for a moment…
And, second, at 50, I strongly advise resisting the temptation to lift for max beyond your late 30’s unless you’re a competitor. Why risk the serious injury and take yourself out of the game?
And actually a little less, canopfor, the tendonitis in the right shoulder under the delt’ is killin’ me..
Doorgunner on April 1, 2010 at 9:15 PM
Doorgunner:Very wise words,on going max.And I have tendon
itis in my left elbow where the forearm, and
outer tricep head meets. So I hear ya,and if you
can maintain your routine, then good for you!
Take care of that delt area,it can hurt like a
b*tch!!:)

I watched Clash of the Titans and dear lord is it good.

Did they remake The Wild Bunch?
jdkchem on April 1, 2010 at 11:05 PM
I am down with this one. It might be unapologetic action thriller tripe, but I love that anyway. So let the carnage commence.
Hawthorne on April 1, 2010 at 11:13 PM
A hot Latina….
…and an airboat.
I notice Stethem is wearing his beret American-style. The British have really been sort of embarrassing these last two wars.
Limpet6 on April 1, 2010 at 11:33 PM
Anyone here ever see They Call Me Bruce? An f’n hilarious kung-fu Bruce Lee rip off tribute to America. Easily in my top 5.
abobo on April 1, 2010 at 11:33 PM
No.
watson007 on April 1, 2010 at 11:58 PM
Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of “The Dirty Dozen”.
Stalone, you sweetheart, just when we needed something to purge sickening blueness out of the system, you offer up the ultimate!
KendraWilder on April 2, 2010 at 12:11 AM
A thick and viscous, nougaty center.
Yum.

Interesting analysis, but I find it flawed. The Rocky movies were drama movies, not action flicks.
When it comes to pure action, I give the advantage to Arnold. He’s had too many great flicks and great lines, while Stallone seems to have had more box-office bombs.
However, Stallone is undoubtedly a better actor overall, as is evidenced by the Rocky movies and Copland.
ynot4tony2 on April 2, 2010 at 8:24 AM
How can I forget that? Twenty-five years on it is still seared into my brain.
Watch the longest machine gun sequence in movie history. Watch Stallone and Norris kill:
Russians
Red Chinese
Indians (Both Kinds)
Canadians
More Red Chinese
(among others)
Has anyone ever found this on the Internet?
Another film to watch this year: Machete
KillerKane on April 2, 2010 at 8:50 AM
THIS IS THE ULTIMATE GUY MOVIE
I have been looking forward to this since I did a search for Stallone on IMDB. I saw this movie listed and then looked at the cast…and my mouth hit the floor! LOL!
cappy718 on April 2, 2010 at 8:57 AM
Van Damme, Segal and Kurt Russell turned down rolls!!! Really????? Even after “Tango and Cash”, Russell turned it down! What was he thinking?!?!? Would have thought he would have been “in” in a heartbeat. Oh well, great line up still and after watching trailer, looks like there’s some comedy in it as well! :)
cappy718 on April 2, 2010 at 9:06 AM
What, no Gumer from Tremors?
BDU-33 on April 2, 2010 at 9:31 AM
Summer 2010 a stepping stone to November 2010..
Can’t wait for both now..
OneConservative on April 2, 2010 at 10:19 AM
Maybe Goldie kept custody of his gonads after their breakup and refused to let him use them even for a while.
SKYFOX on April 2, 2010 at 10:57 AM
No Bruce Campbell?
hawksruleva on April 2, 2010 at 11:21 AM
I have to admit it looks good, unlike most of the trash coming out of hollyweird.
Mini-14 on April 2, 2010 at 11:34 AM
An action movie I think would be a riot to see would be one with Gummer from Tremors, Kurt Russell and the Pork Chop Express, and Bruce Campbell of Army of Darkness. Saving the us all from Evil in their own special way.
BDU-33 on April 2, 2010 at 11:53 AM
Man. I love Sly.
thomashton on April 2, 2010 at 12:30 PM
Oh, yes! I am going to see this.
My buddies and I in the 80s military used to laugh at the movies that tried to be serious but were buffoonish (“Hearbreak Ridge” and “Navy Seals” come to mind), but we loved the Rambo series and the Chuck Norris movies. Just good ‘ol American butt kickin’.
CAN. NOT. WAIT. This will drive my wife crazy (bonus points)
Bigurn on April 2, 2010 at 1:15 PM
SWEET!!! Can’t wait. Punisher with claymores would make for more “splatter time”.
nukeemnow on April 2, 2010 at 1:58 PM
Did I see that right Stallone, and Schwarzenegger in the same film, at the SAME time!!!!!! Never thought that would happen, although I always thought they should make one together!
Confederate on April 2, 2010 at 3:56 PM
Say what you will about him, but I’ve been impressed with his work on Lawman.
