Video: NRSC hails Obama the Promise Keeper!

posted at 12:55 pm on April 1, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

The creepiest part of this video isn’t the obviously sarcastic treatment of Barack Obama as a secular Messiah by the NRSC for its April Fools Day gag, but the obsequious speech by Hillary Clinton on behalf of our Dear Leader (which Amerpundit reminds me in the comments was meant sarcastically at the time). Unfortunately, the rest of the rhetoric in the video’s first minute isn’t far off the mark from what the Obama administration and Democrats claim as their achievements, either. While the US continues to lose jobs and see debt pile up with the explosion of federal spending, they act as though Democrats are the true deficit hawks and unemployment has been solved. Maybe Democrats and Barack Obama really do believe in unicorns and rainbow power!

It’s cute but it doesn’t make me laugh enough to forget about bondage expenses and Republicans looking to back down from “repeal.” No, I’m still not happy with anything officially Republican at the moment.

A reminder for newbies: Hillary Clinton was being sarcastic, taunting Obama’s promises as pie-in-the-sky absurdity. It was from the campaign.

amerpundit on April 1, 2010 at 12:59 PM

As someone said on the headlines thread – they should have stopped after the April fools line.

Remember the saying less is more, and it’s better to leave people wanting more than to bore them with what they already know, droning on and on repeatedly making the same point over and over again.

See what I mean?

Kick Cornyn out and maybe I’ll donate.

Branch Rickey on April 1, 2010 at 12:59 PM

Still opens my eyes every time I listen to candidate Obama promising so many things that were later tossed in the trash. The runaway deficits line is a classic.

Bishop on April 1, 2010 at 1:00 PM

Well, that video made me healthier already! I lost ten pounds while leaning over my Porcelain Goddess after listening to Hillary’s part.

Thanks, man. I’ve amended the post to reflect that. I’d forgotten about it.

Why do I wake up everyday thinking I am Winston Smith?

daesleeper on April 1, 2010 at 1:05 PM

I love it. To the point, hits hard and reminds people that these turds in DC are making things worse.

Jvette on April 1, 2010 at 1:07 PM

You evel redneck amerikkkans just don’t understand. Not only are the skittles the unicorn drops a tasty, low-cal treat, they do not release CO2 when burned as fuel… Noted scientist Paul Erlich told me so in my dreams…

Let this go viral. You’ll reap what you so in November

amerpundit on April 1, 2010 at 12:59 PM

Sarcasm at the time, yes. But many libs today actually believe that’s how things are. I live in the most liberal part of town, so I hear and see things like that all the time.

Well, it’s written a man of much knowledge is a man of much sorrow.

Liam on April 1, 2010 at 1:10 PM

I don’t care where Republicans meet and raise money, its WARTIME!!! do what you have to do to win!

conservador on April 1, 2010 at 1:16 PM

Two more Republican back-pedalers.

A choice between unicorns or eunuchs in November? I hope not.

Drained Brain on April 1, 2010 at 1:16 PM

Obama’s a joke, and a truly sick one at that–unfortunately, at our expense.

Christien on April 1, 2010 at 1:16 PM

I heard Obama promised his daughters they could have a unicorn if he was elected president.

He hasn’t made good on that promise either.

I don’t think this boat can get any shallower.

You never know though.

As someone said, it’d be better to just end it at April Fools and run it on TV. Love it though.

What? No Skittles?

Not allowed under Obamacare… unless you’re in Congress.

daesleeper on April 1, 2010 at 1:05 PM

Why are you waking up thinking? That is non-acceptable behavior. You will be purged. Long live Oceania…

karl9000 on April 1, 2010 at 1:34 PM

It was funny (yes, end it at April fools).

However, it gives the impression that Obama means well, and is just a likable guy that likes to promise good things.

faraway on April 1, 2010 at 1:36 PM

I think it is fun.

April Fool’s day or not – he’s still a long legged mackdaddy!

50sGuy on April 1, 2010 at 1:42 PM

I think there is a concern troll in this thread.

Howcome on April 1, 2010 at 1:48 PM

Great vid. Now if only the GOP would back it up with non-RINO testicular fortitude.

infidel4life on April 1, 2010 at 1:57 PM

This was probably one of the best ads I’ve seen from the R’s. Why’s everybody so nitpicky?

The best part of this is the reprise of the unicorn with the rainbow coming out of its butt. That makes me laugh. Zero should’ve been riding it though… Can’t a black man ride a unicorn anymore?

The -39% unemployment and trillions of jobs jokes will probably be lost on the obots… math is hard, dude!

SnowSun on April 1, 2010 at 1:58 PM

What? No Skittles?

Rocks on April 1, 2010 at 1:23 PM

The unicorn ate the skittles
Note the rainbow being emitted from the unicorn’s rear end !!!!

macncheez on April 1, 2010 at 2:00 PM

Who was that horrible racist redneck woman spouting racism against Dear Leader?! My attention span doesn’t go back that far to remember.

When did Greg Gutfied start doing NRSC videos? Greg? Are you reading this? I hope Andy Levy whacks you upside the head for this one.

dean_acheson on April 1, 2010 at 2:12 PM

Hopefully there is a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow. That poor man on the unicorn is about to see his health insurance premiums go up.

Anyone here a fan of Kenny Rogers ?

A moderate threat? I still say I hope it does not come down to a choice between unicorns and eunuchs in November.

Drained Brain on April 1, 2010 at 2:44 PM

That is hilarious. I truly enjoyed it. They say the more outrageous the lie, the more believable it is, so I wonder if anyone will believe the add?

SnKArcbound on April 1, 2010 at 2:45 PM

LMAO

CK MacLeod on April 1, 2010 at 2:49 PM

HAHAHAHA!
I bet Obama is frothing mad about this. You watch. He’s going to mention it in one of his combative campaign events.

OxyCon on April 1, 2010 at 3:15 PM

I noticed they put my Congressman Ellsworth’s face up there. The turn coat.

Terrye on April 1, 2010 at 3:45 PM

Yeah, that makes sense. Bondage expenses = porkulus+O-care+nationalized auto industry+TBTF bank support+housing and auto buying subsidies. Obviously this drained brain dope attended the New School of Henry Waxman Mathematics. And graduated at the head of his class!

boqueronman on April 1, 2010 at 5:27 PM

The confusing thing is that they included Brad Ellsworth at the very end of that list of congresscritters.

He isn’t a senator, yet this is a NRSC ad? Ok, wtg guys.

Cheesecakecrush on April 1, 2010 at 7:17 PM

That was funny. :) :) :) Can we run that during the World Series? :) :) :)
