Quotes of the day

posted at 10:50 pm on March 31, 2010 by Allahpundit

“Credit Obama with pulling off a small political coup – one you could even call triangulation lite.

“The price he paid in political terms was relatively small: Angry blowback from environmental activists who still support his overall climate change policy.

“But the short-term benefits were large: By announcing the policy change, Obama defused a potentially potent Republican issue ahead of the summer gas spike and the fall midterms, while embracing major elements of the GOP’s ‘all of the above’ energy approach to kick-start a stalled climate change bill…

“‘It’s not a bad thing to show you’re willing to do something that gets liberals angry right after you pass the biggest liberal bill in a generation,’ said a Senate Democrat staffer, whose boss opposes the policy.”

***
“Many Americans fear that President Obama’s new energy proposal is once again ‘all talk and no real action,’ this time in an effort to shore up fading support for the Democrats’ job-killing cap-and-trade (a.k.a. cap-and-tax) proposals. Behind the rhetoric lie new drilling bans and leasing delays; soon to follow are burdensome new environmental regulations. Instead of ‘drill, baby, drill,’ the more you look into this the more you realize it’s ‘stall, baby, stall.’

“As an Alaskan, I’m especially disheartened by the new ban on drilling in parts of the 49th state and the cancellation of lease sales in the Chukchi and Beaufort seas. These areas contain rich oil and gas reserves whose development is key to our country’s energy security. As I told Secretary Salazar last April, ‘Arctic exploration and development is a slow, demanding process. Delays or major restrictions in accessing these resources for environmentally responsible development are not in the national interest or the interests of the State of Alaska.’

“I’ve got to call it like I see it: The administration’s sudden interest in offshore drilling is little more than political posturing designed to gain support for job-killing energy legislation soon to come down the pike. I’m confident that GOP senators will not take the bait.”

I’ve heard anywhere from 10 to 15 years to anchor and build before the whole rig is up and running.

Knucklehead on March 31, 2010 at 11:43 PM

We’d better get started right away then.

thomasaur on March 31, 2010 at 11:47 PM

Exploration =/= drilling.

andycanuck on March 31, 2010 at 11:47 PM

Bradky, honest to God, or Baal, or whatever it is for you; you really don’t need to get into the issue of slavish devotion.

Slobber somewhere else, please; I’ve only a limited amount of paper towels. Gotta be green and all, you know?

hillbillyjim on March 31, 2010 at 11:47 PM

I knew this was crap before I heard it. Any Republican politician in Congress that buys this malarkey must go. Mark Levin summarizes it beautifully here.

I suppose if I were a Democrat or an Obamabot I would feel hurt by your words. Since I am neither you kind of wasted a post with your assumption.

Bradky on March 31, 2010 at 11:48 PM

Calling me names doesn’t change your cultish behavior about her.

How is my behavior “cultish?”

the same points you make about Obamabots could be made about Palinista behavior. You just don’t see it.

I have never, but NEVER, seen or heard an Obamabot explain any policy or position of his that made any sense at all.
Palinistas don’t have to: Sarah’s pragmatism is plain to see and she has a record of walking the walk as well as talking the talk.

Palin never was and never will be the next Reagan no matter how many times you click your heels together and wish it so.

Bradky on March 31, 2010 at 11:43 PM

You may not think so, but there are millions of us who do.
Palin=Reagan in a skirt. Just what our country needs right now.

Bradky on March 31, 2010 at 11:37 PM

If I were slavishly devoted to Sarah, she could have sold me John McCain: that never happened and it won’t.

If I were a slavishly devoted Palinista, Sarah could make me forget that Rand Paul is Ron Paul’s son.
She can’t do that either.
So much for being Sarah’s “slave.”

Jenfidel on March 31, 2010 at 11:52 PM

The time it takes to get new oil flowing is directly inverse to the amount of government red tape involved.
Years ago a Southern California earthquake collapsed LA’s Santa Monica freeway, causing huge traffic problems. In a fit of wisdom the government got out of the way and let a private contractor take charge of the rebuilding project, coupled with incentives for getting it done early. The private guys worked around the clock and got the freeway rebuilt much faster than anyone (else) thought possible.
The government is the albatross.

As for Reagan comparisons… I am disappointed you trivialize his enormous accomplishments with the comparisons to Palin.

Bradky on March 31, 2010 at 11:56 PM

The alphabet soup of idiotic Luddite environmentalist groups wage war on oil production thru never-ending lawsuits, cannot negate that effect.

daesleeper on March 31, 2010 at 11:56 PM

They block and drag their feet at every point. My husband was rotating offshore in the Atchafalaya Basin, in south Louisiana. The governmental hurdles are unbelievable. He would occasionally be sent to the wells way offshore by helicopter. I hated that. Now we are in the Bakken Formation which will when fully produced be a monster field.

Why are you personally attacking us because we support Palin?
It doesn’t invalidate anything she says or that we say.
It’s just a personal attack on all of us at one fell swoop.

And it’s not denigrating anything about Reagan to compare Palin to him: he would have loved her.

Jenfidel on April 1, 2010 at 12:02 AM

People, don’t be fooled. These are exploration permits; not drilling permits. It’s a media play, and that’s all it is.

hillbillyjim on March 31, 2010 at 11:59 PM

Exactly. They are not going to open these areas up to production. In the early 80′s they were saying it would take ten years to bring in production. Well, it has been twenty. They are still blocking. I don’t care what ya’ll hear, the technology is there if they get the go ahead. Innovation will naturally follow when they let the companies go to work.

TXMomof3 on April 1, 2010 at 12:03 AM

Bradsky, by the way, Palin’s accomplishments aren’t as big as Reagan’s because she hasn’t been President for 2 terms yet! ;-)

Supposedly this formation spreads through North and South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana. The land grabs you are seeing are designed to limit the production. They want us to have a lower standard of life.

TXMomof3 on April 1, 2010 at 12:06 AM

Jenfidel on April 1, 2010 at 12:04 AM

You are trying too hard Jen and stating that Reagan would have loved her is opinion nothing more. To say the only difference is that she has not been president for 8 years is just silly. 8 years as governor of a state that has an economy bigger than most countries, many years of slogging the roads to support GOP candidates, and a heckuva lot more life experience shows a chasm between the two.

Bradky on April 1, 2010 at 12:07 AM

As Rumsfeld so wisely said, “You go to way with the army (and the general) you have.”

Palin can’t match Reagan exactly, but she has boldly taken the same Conservative stance he did in the face of as much adversity as he had and that’s what counts.
She is the leading voice of the Loyal Opposition of this nation when it is imperiled under a far Leftist Democrat Precedent and Congress, just as was in the late ’70′s under Carter.

Bradky on April 1, 2010 at 12:13 AM

I’d agree that Palin isn’t Reagan, but the whole “another Reagan” thing is pointless anyway. Reagan wasn’t even “Reagan”. As for the polls, Reagan wasn’t really “the voice” either until he gained traction in the primaries. People like Gerald Ford were “the voice”. So, polls in that sense are pretty much useless in making a point about influence and following.

to all the palin haters. Palin is talking policy at the SLC on apr 9th in major speech She is taking the energy fight to Obama. He decided to step into her area of expertise and now she will hammer him on policy. be there or be square.

Palin, whose home state would see some coastal areas off limits to energy exploration out of concern for the environment, plans to address Obama’s energy plan directly in a speech April 9 at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans.

“She will specifically respond to the president’s proposal,” the source said.

http://blogs.reuters.com/frontrow/2010/03/31/palin-to-take-on-obama-on-energy-in-new-orleans/

Not asking for pity – simply pointing out your hypocrisy and cultish behavior. I shall call her Palin Thread Den Mother…

Bradky on April 1, 2010 at 12:33 AM

I eagerly await you’re being able to prove either or both.

*crickets*

You are truly demented. Perhaps politics isn’t your thing.

and yet another anti-palin talking point falls by the wayside. I have never seen so many people be so wrong so often in my life. the palin haters have been wrong 100% of the time.

Good find, unseen!
And now Al-Reuters is worried about her enough to report on her talk to SRLC…I love it!

Jenfidel on April 1, 2010 at 12:37 AM

Where the hell is siggy?
Bradky could give him a books worth of material.

HornetSting on April 1, 2010 at 12:39 AM

I don’t get the cult of Palin haters. the antiPalinistas cult is becoming unhinged. If she wears red shoes they hate red shoes. It is a shame to see hate drive so many to the funny farm.

Yeah, don’t bring up Frau Meiwes.

MeatHeadinCA on April 1, 2010 at 12:41 AM

The SRLC will be IMO the place Palin pivots from movement leader to stateswoman.
