Quotes of the day

posted at 10:50 pm on March 31, 2010 by Allahpundit

“Credit Obama with pulling off a small political coup – one you could even call triangulation lite.

“The price he paid in political terms was relatively small: Angry blowback from environmental activists who still support his overall climate change policy.

“But the short-term benefits were large: By announcing the policy change, Obama defused a potentially potent Republican issue ahead of the summer gas spike and the fall midterms, while embracing major elements of the GOP’s ‘all of the above’ energy approach to kick-start a stalled climate change bill…

“‘It’s not a bad thing to show you’re willing to do something that gets liberals angry right after you pass the biggest liberal bill in a generation,’ said a Senate Democrat staffer, whose boss opposes the policy.”

***
“Many Americans fear that President Obama’s new energy proposal is once again ‘all talk and no real action,’ this time in an effort to shore up fading support for the Democrats’ job-killing cap-and-trade (a.k.a. cap-and-tax) proposals. Behind the rhetoric lie new drilling bans and leasing delays; soon to follow are burdensome new environmental regulations. Instead of ‘drill, baby, drill,’ the more you look into this the more you realize it’s ‘stall, baby, stall.’

“As an Alaskan, I’m especially disheartened by the new ban on drilling in parts of the 49th state and the cancellation of lease sales in the Chukchi and Beaufort seas. These areas contain rich oil and gas reserves whose development is key to our country’s energy security. As I told Secretary Salazar last April, ‘Arctic exploration and development is a slow, demanding process. Delays or major restrictions in accessing these resources for environmentally responsible development are not in the national interest or the interests of the State of Alaska.’

“I’ve got to call it like I see it: The administration’s sudden interest in offshore drilling is little more than political posturing designed to gain support for job-killing energy legislation soon to come down the pike. I’m confident that GOP senators will not take the bait.”

I guess. When the Palin haters come on threads I’m reminded of the movie Exocist for some reason. I keep thinking the Palinhaters are rotating their heads 360 while typing the words.

The SRLC will be IMO the place Palin pivots from movement leader to stateswoman.

Back to the points at hand; Ojesus’ administration has held up untold numbers of mining permits just in this immediate region; nationwide, I’d hate to imagine. It’s not something we’re going to hear from MSM, but I wish some of these blogs with some resources would look further into it.

They’re paying lip service to energy independence with this announcement; it means nothing. Exploration is one thing; production is another altogether.

In general, yeah. Around here, it was about 50/50 in the presidential — then it was about 2 to 1 for McDonnell in the gubernatorial….go figger.

hillbillyjim on April 1, 2010 at 12:58 AM

portlandon, a lot of folks ’round here have been lifelong Dems for no other reason than “their Daddy was”, so even a 50/50 split is a loss for the Democrats.

The McDonnell thing was truly unprecedented; Ojesus brought us together — against DC and anything associated.

The congressman around here has been trying to straddle the fence, but if he doesn’t get off soon, he will be swept out with the anti-BIGGOV’T tide. Everybody, and I mean folks who’ve never give a fig about politics, is ready to vote these effers out if they don’t start listening and voting as if they’re hearing.

November is going to be interesting, at the least.

He restricts ‘uge tracts o’ land…gives a little bit of the less productive areas back and claims to be all for drilling.
Shell games. Restrict here, allow there…nothing changes. And watch the hassle the oil companies have when it comes time to drill. Over 50 years in Alaska I’ve seen the games that the Fed can play, and that kind of power in the “right” hands “great things” can be accomplished. Wink-wink, nudge- nudge.
Even now the EPA is taking steps to ruin our lives regulating the bubbles that come from beer…lovely beer, ’cause that gas will kill us all.

His true believers know he’s lying for political gain, and that’s fine with them, because so do they.

Those who oppose him also know he’s lying for political gain, as usual, and despise his transparent b.s.

Barry says the words that will allow the MSM to pose him as “stealing the right’s thunder” and “neutralizing this Republican issue”, when they know full well it is a tactical trick to sucker the inattentive, indecisive and easily gulled.

There’ll be more drilling in Joe Biden’s follically-challenged scalp, than offshore, during the Obama Adminstration.

A HUGE net loss! I just fired off an email to the morons requesting that they do a little research rather than just bending over and licking his boots.

And this is where the GOP elites fail. they allow the dems to set the narrative. The GOP should be out in every land saying the POTUS is lying. they should bring the facts and figures.

See the GOP elites have bought the BIG LIE of the dem party. That the americian people are stupid. that they will believe sound bites instead of detailed arguments. The GOP elites can not ever when a war of sound bites. They must educate and inform the AMerician people lack of knowledge is not stupidity.

Hammer it home over and over again how drilling will never happen as long as the dems controll the department of interior, and the cogs in the paper wheel that decide on permits etc. Expalin to the people that a clean house is needed if they want to drill. Run on issues that if elected will give them a mandate not 51% of the vote. but 65% of the vote.

Illegal immigration 70% of the American people oppose it
Obamacare 60% of the American people oppose it
Cap and tax 60% of the American people oppose it
increased taxes 90% of the Americian people oppose it
Drilling, nuclear power, power plants being built 70% of the Americian people support it.

Hammer these points home build your agenda and campaign on these things inform and educate the Americian people and when you win in a landslide implement them.

this is called the REAGAN way.

To all the palin haters. Palin is talking policy at the SLC on apr 9th in major speech She is taking the energy fight to Obama. He decided to step into her area of expertise and now she will hammer him on policy. be there or be square.

Palin, whose home state would see some coastal areas off limits to energy exploration out of concern for the environment, plans to address Obama’s energy plan directly in a speech April 9 at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans.

“She will specifically respond to the president’s proposal,” the source said.

http://blogs.reuters.com/frontrow/2010/03/31/palin-to-take-on-obama-on-energy-in-new-orleans/

and yet another anti-palin talking point falls by the wayside. I have never seen so many people be so wrong so often in my life. the palin haters have been wrong 100% of the time.

unseen on April 1, 2010 at 12:32 AM

Don’t you just LOVE how she let it leak out that she was going to nail Obama’s nuts to the wall in a speech that more than a week away!

Max exposure baby!

As the former governor of one of America’s largest energy-producing states, a state oil and gas commissioner, and chair of the nation’s Interstate Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, I’ve seen plenty of such studies. What we need is action — action that results in the job growth and revenue that a robust drilling policy could provide

Palin fights with every fiber of her being, she doesn’t back down. She comes out swinging and she gets her shots in. She will go to the mat for her ideas, she will not allow the MSM to pigeonhole her.

And to all the Palinhaters out there. When you all get a candidate with half the balls as Palin and a candidate that fights half as much against the socialist takeover of the country I might give that candidate alook. Look at the last 14 months and all Palin has accomplished and understand what you are seeing is what is called a LEADER.

Don’t you know, that Guam will tip over and fall into the ocean, if you allow this drilling in Florida and Virginia? – The Honorable man from GA.

“And isn’t it true Admiral, that when they drill holes in the ocean floor, depending on the length of far-ness from the narrowest location of the coast, there’s a danger that the ocean water might leak away when they take the pipes out? And if the water goes down, our beloved country might start to tilt over on that side. And then Admiral, wouldn’t we all have to walk sideways?”

He said the areas would be open to exploration, didn’t mention drilling. What oil company would spend the money to explore without some kind of guarantee that they could drill when they find some oil. Proves again Zero doesn’t know a thing about how businesses work. His new energy policy was all over the news and local paper. He got his headline at a time when gas is high.

Now with health care reform passed , I proposand conservatism in the dustbin of history, I propose the commemoration on Rushmore of none other than Barack Obama. No. It’s far worse than that. He stopped drilling in the areas almost certain to hold huge reserves, then allowed drilling in the areas least likely to produce. In addition, there will be TREMENDOUS resistance on the part of all government licensing and permits to allow the drilling.
He is intent on crashing the economy in order to “fundamentally transform” all that he sees as evil and Imperialistic. That’s us folks…we’re screwed.
