American women have a fee-vah and the only prescription is more guns

posted at 9:15 pm on March 30, 2010 by Allahpundit

Well, maybe. One study last year claimed 70 percent of gun-shop owners report more women buyers; a different study alleged that women owned 10.8 percent of the nation’s guns in 2008 versus 10.5 percent in 1980, an amazingly stable figure. Of course, the two aren’t necessarily contradictory: Could be that gun ownership by women was flat for decades until Obama was elected, sparking a buying frenzy fueled by panic that our new progressive overlords would soon crack down on sales. (Which is exactly what happened after the election.) I have to say, though, I’ve never thought gun-grabbing was a big part of The One’s agenda. His leftist dreams have always skewed more towards redistribution, and I think he rightly figures that in order to maintain the capital he needs to push his program in that area, he’d best avoid political battles pitting him against key cultural elements of middle and rural America. That’s why I thought that ESPN story about O supposedly wanting to restrict recreational fishing was bogus. There’s just too much to lose and too little to gain for him by picking that fight. I think he’s content to let the, ahem, “bitter-clingers” keep their guns and rods and reels if they leave him alone to siphon off their income to the state. Comforting.

The Wash Times speculates that suspicions about The One’s agenda are also behind the uptick in sales to women, but I think it has at least as much to do with economic anxiety. Higher unemployment = a more desperate population = more thieves (or worse) lurking in the shadows, which in turn means a greater need to pack heat for protection. At least, that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it. Click the image to watch.

Remember, the Administration is in the middle of negotiating the UN Treaty on Small Arms. With such a scheme the left could completely bypass the 2nd amendment and enact restrictions IAW the ‘treaty’…Now consider what he is doing with the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA). This is a treaty negotiated in secret that has to do with trade and property protections. Word is that Obama intends to implement the thing by executive order…Look it up.

An administration that has a history of enacting treaties by executive order can be an administration that avoids the Senate completely in bypassing the bill of rights.

I have to say, though, I’ve never thought gun-grabbing was a big part of The One’s agenda. His leftist dreams have always skewed more towards redistribution, and I think he rightly figures that in order to maintain the capital he needs to push his program in that area, he’d best avoid political battles pitting him against key cultural elements of middle and rural America.

I say that is, in part, dead smack on target. I actually have no doubt that he would love nothing more than to totally disarm the civilian population. But even he admits that he “doesn’t have the votes” to do so. So he prioritizes, and the redistribution and socialist agenda take front and center.

If he ever gets the majority of what he wants, however, it will make gun grabbing all that much easier.

Anyone found anything about “unhealthy” firearms in the Health Control bill? I remember before it passed many were speculating about that. Because, uh, you know, those bad ol’ guns send a lot of people to the hospital, or something.

MrsJamesLee had almost that reaction. She’s not thrilled with the big-bore stuff, even the 380 ElCheapo I ended up with is a bit much for her. Loved the D-Frame 38 though.

To be fair, though, she was never a gun-grabber, just never had been around any, and would question “why does someone need THAT many” when some “arsenal” story was on the news. But I was quite proud when she bought a Ruger Charger for our anniversary.

Oh boy, I’m on the cutting edge! We’re getting a handgun soon. Here’s the breakdown of my unease: suspicion of Obama’s agenda down the line (10%), inevitable crumbling of “social cohesion” as our economy collapses and the sucklers on the gov’t teat become angry as it pulls away from their lips (30%) but more immediately the flood of illegals here in Northern Virginia – many of them wanted for murderer back “home” (50%).

We live in Loudoun County, the richest county in America. We are slightly above the median household income here($115,000). We’re about $70K underwater on our mortgage, so at present there is no escape. We’re right on the edge of fairfax County, in particular Herndon, which is apparently a paradise for illegals. And our Prez is poised on the precipice of amnesty for illegals.
