Max Baucus: ObamaCare will help correct the “maldistribution” of income
posted at 8:22 pm on March 25, 2010 by Allahpundit
Lots of buzz on Twitter for this one, but I’m not sure why. Of course this is what the bill is about; this is what The One means when he talks about “common sense,” “middle of the road” solutions. And the “maldistribution” doesn’t only apply between rich and poor, it applies between young and old and the healthy and sick too. Look no further than the new (and, it should be said, hugely popular) exemption for preexisting conditions. As Robert Tracinski explained eight months ago, once you take away the industry’s right to decline a particular risk, you’re no longer talking about insurance. You’re talking about welfare.
So let’s ask the question the left never asks: how is it possible for an insurance company to pay for these giant medical bills? What makes it possible is a whole set of statistical calculations. For every person who needs open-heart surgery or chemotherapy, there have to be a certain number of other people who are paying their premiums but haven’t gotten seriously ill. If the insurance company has gotten its calculations right, the expenses for any one person’s catastrophic care are balanced out by the premiums other people pay “just in case.”
You can see how Obama’s demands undermine this whole system. To ask insurance companies to cover a patient after the tumor is diagnosed is to ask them to take on a known expense. Combine that with another Obama demand: that insurance companies can’t charge higher rates for those who are at higher risk of getting sick. So if insurance companies have to take on a known expense and can’t charge a higher rate for it, how are they going to pay for it? By raising everyone else’s rates, redistributing their wealth to the new freeloaders.
This isn’t insurance, it’s welfare. And that’s the whole point.
Right. That’s why you need a mandate — not only to cover the costs of emergency care for the uninsured, as Romney insists, but to squeeze premiums out of people (healthy young people, mostly) who probably won’t need care at all. And what if that’s not enough of a corrective to the “maldistribution”? Well, then you add some taxes and squeeze a little more revenue that way. Why, here’s a nice tax now that already has Obama pal Deval Patrick panicking about the job losses it’ll create within Massachusetts’s medical-device industry.
But I’m sure it’ll all work out for the best. And if it doesn’t, who cares? It’s here to stay. That’s how entitlements work, you mean conservative, you. Click the image to watch.

I came from China, and experienced extreme hardship when I grew up. Anybody with a pea size brain knows wealth distribution will only make everybody poor, and the only people profit from it are people in the system – the ruling class. We really need to vote these radicals out of Washington — these parasites will never stop.

This is why our candidates need to be able to articulate foundational principles of government. The days of just running on “less taxes and more jobs” are over!
Our very existence as a free nation is under assault. Republicans have got to hammer individual freedoms! They have got to be ready to defend our constitutional principles while attacking the Marxist ideologies of the Democrats! Republicans can not just say “We need a more limited approach to A, B C” They need to say “A B C will destroy our nation!”

Mal-distribution?
Who is to decide what and how should things be ‘distributed’?
If I’m middle class and work for a living with a 25″ TV set, and a ‘poor’ family has a 40″ TV, should they give up their TV and be forced to match mine? Or do we ‘compromise’ at 30 inches each?

Let me see if I get this plan.
Step 1: Plan something huge and costly… check.
Step 2: Promise to “tax the rich” to pay for it, and in the process do some redistribution… done and done.
Step 3: Realize there aren’t enough rich to cover the costs, so tax the middle class to cover it… coming right up.
Step 4: Note that the middle class is now worse off than before (next year sometime, at the latest).
Step 5: Goto step 1, because clearly this plan will work if we just try it again? (the over/under is around 12-16 months)
Hell my cat learns better than this.

The Republican’s best weapon is the fact that Democrats are idiotic enough to think Americans want Communism.WTF does maldistribution of income mean? You take a job, you agree to a wage. If that is not enough, then you get a better job, rob a bank or whatever. I have no problem with the notion of safety nets, but nobody is entitled to anything, especially at everybody else’s expense.

I heard about that and read that the author of the Cloward Piven strategy supports a social uprising of people refusing to leave foreclosed upon homes. Dr Piven advocated a “homeowners bill of rights” or something nefarious and believed that a mass of people that collectively refused to leave would force lenders, law enforcement etc to back off of evictions. It’d be a nightmare economically and socially. It’s totally a cloward piven strategy 2010 style.

Maldistribution of income? WTF kind of commie bullcrap is this??????
BottomLine5 on March 25, 2010 at 8:46 PM
There are unfair policies against the poor to keep them poor and make the rich richer. The Democrats are mostly to blame. They want the labor market saturated with workers, including millions of illegal aliens, and that drives down workers’ wages and causes higher unemployment.
End poverty immigration and send the illegals home and you instantly create a market that favors workers, and employers must offer benefits like health insurance and higher wages to entice workers. If creates some inflation but it’s the poorest people who benefit from that inflation because they are the ones getting all that inflation money as wages.
Buddahpundit on March 25, 2010 at 8:47 PM

Heres my experience :
Last year in summer, there was this apartment complex on foreclosure sale by a bank , near SF. I was given all the relevant papers after signing the NDA, and since it looked good for the price , I wanted to see it. The dealer ( bank’s agent actually) wouldn’t let me see it, before getting a check for escrow. For almost 2 months he kept dodging me. Finally we drove up there one evening and found out that
all the units were occupied, and NO ONE was paying ANY rent.
The previous owner could do nothing to get paid the rent, so he gave up.
The bank had no reason to do anything.
And there was no guarnatee that the new owners would be able to do anything about it either.
The property is so blighted now that it looks like a shanty .
Probabely thats what redistribution of POVERTY looks like !

That’s something I can’t quite understand: what other business could you walk into and pay X dollars and by law they have to give you 100X dollars of services?
It is quite simply government imposed welfare. And to make it work, you have to screw the young and healthy by making them purchase overpriced policies that cover things they’ll never need. Classic wealth redistribution. Nothing more.
