Caught on film: Congressman “spat on” by tea partier, sort of

posted at 8:59 pm on March 25, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via Nice Deb and Ace, who aptly characterizes this as a “Say It Don’t Spray It Class D Felony.” Skip ahead to around 1:20. A protester has his hands cupped around his mouth to yell something and it looks like some spittle hits Cleaver, who later accused the guy, and I quote, of having “allowed his saliva to hit my face.” Voila — a racial incident worthy of national headlines capped by a congressional press release noting that the spitter/spittler had been arrested. Except that he wasn’t: He was briefly detained and then let go. This was supposedly also around the time that tea partiers were shouting racial slurs at Cleaver, John Lewis, and other black congressmen. Listen closely and you … won’t hear any. Although if you do, or if you were there and have some tape lying around that captured them, you can make a cool ten grand from Andrew Breitbart. “Is it really possible that in 2010,” writes Breitbart, “in a crowd of 30 or 40 thousand people — at the center of a once-in-a-lifetime media circus — not one person’s flipphone, Blackberry, video recorder or a network feed caught a single incident?” E-mail him if you’ve got the smoking gun!

Incidentally, this is now the third incident involving alleged political intimidation that appears to have been blown out of proportion. The casket that so frightened Russ Carnahan was part of a prayer vigil meant to symbolize the death of liberty. And the bullet that broke that window in Cantor’s campaign office was, according to preliminary investigations, not fired directly at the building but up in the air, suggesting that it landed through the window through happenstance. Let’s all take a deep breath. Please?

Update: If you’re troubled by this alarming episode involving spittle unintentionally striking a Democrat, assuage your guilt by donating $5 to Obama’s money machine.

Blowback

Would that be a threat?

Terrye on March 25, 2010 at 9:56 PM

According to a Dem, in front of news cameras, yes. Legally, no.

Pubs were scolded today by Woodward–whatever is his name–to tone down the ‘rhetoric’. Translation: “Stop criticizing us Democrats!”

It’s all semantics on part of thin-skinned Dems. Like the perpetual people who wait around to be offended, they endlessly whine. It’s all they have at this point, with smatterings of the race- and victim cards.

Thank God none of them are in the military.

Terrye on March 25, 2010 at 10:03 PM

Hey, if that congressman was spat upon or called a racial epithet then there were capitol police officers all over the place. If all we have is a trumped up media charge, no witnesses, no video, no reports, no descriptions, just the word of some community organizing agitator….then I’m not surprised breitbart is putting his money on the table just to show what a baiter this guy is being with this trumped up nothingness.

Andrew Breitbart is a gunslinger and I’m glad he’s on our side. (A rhetorical gunslinger as in fighter for the cause as the slingers of yesteryear were fighter for a cause…yeah right shutup)…

Some anonymous liberal concerned citizen leaves a voice mail for a Republican congresswoman some lady who obviously wants your grandmother to die, in which voice mail the caller wishes the congresswoman had been killed in a car accident and insinuates he ought to shoot her with a 9 millimeter to have a nice day in a very reasoned and measured tone.

I, Tuco Ramirez, will tell you something. Those politicians think they are better than I am. Where I came from, if one did not want to have to do actual work for a living, one became a politician or a bandit. They chose their way, I chose mine. Mine was harder!!! I don’t remember for how long, but I tried the political path! I tried, but it was no good! My standards may be very low but I do have some standards. Now I am going to tell them something… they became politicians because they are too cowardly to do what I do.

Actually, Mythbusters did that experiment. A bullet shot up in the air looses all velocity on the way down except for gravity an becomes completely non lethal. In other words, it can not penetrate a window that is perpendicular to the ground. And if Mythbusters says it, you know its true!

Heywood U. Reedmore on March 25, 2010 at 10:27 PM

How about we all ignore the trolls? No responses either to them or about them? Let them ramble, and we go on among ourselves? The trolls aren’t our friends. As one admitted last night, he’s here only to upset this site of ‘troglodytes’–his term. He spoke for them all, as evidenced by the common behavior and words of them all.

How about we, friends, have a great time! We do better among ourselves and without them.

Liam on March 25, 2010 at 9:48 PM

+1

And I’ve been thinking that conservatives, libertarians, tea-partiers and patriots all across the nation should do the same with the Congressional trolls.

In other words, apply the principle of ignoring them cause there’s no converting them. None of us should spend another dime traveling or talking to any of the Dims, and some Pubs need the same treatment, i.e. Grahamnesty.

We should gather all our energies and resources to support and work for deserving candidates on every level, and work without distraction, especially avoiding the tripwires that they set up when Frank, Cleaver and Jackson Jr. just happened to have to walk through a tea party crowd – as if they couldn’t have taken any one of the honeycomb of tunnels that run from the Congressional office bldgs to the Capitol. Those three were in a place that was COMPLETELY unnecessary for them to be in, so they could set up, slander and intimidate fellow Americans exercising their First Amendment rights. These three stooges personally made it a point to set up the game plan and throw the smear machine into high gear.

And what works will be continued. As an upcoming example of someone who I think wants to take a page out of the above book, Congresswoman Melissa Bean, known as the “abortion queen” in northwest suburban IL is hosting a “meeting” in the next week or so.
I smell a setup as sure as there’s a sun in the sky. If teapartiers protest at her office, whose mind will be changed? Not the abortion queen’s. In the mean time, she can plant an agent provocateur or two in the crowd, smear the conservatives in as serious a way as she deems fit, make sure her camera men are getting it all and be a prime-time sweetheart by evening.

We need to IGNORE them all, from berri on down. We have nothing to gain by allowing them to discredit and slander us. If all contact with them STOPPED COMPLETELY they wouldn’t be able to use us as their straw men. I know there is an oriental or marshall arts principle in here somewhere.

Anyway, we should run silent and run deep as we work to guarantee success in November.

I don’t know about that. It would seem that it would reach terminal velocity and if it hit you in the head it would sure the hell hurt.

I found this –

Terminal velocity is reached for a typical 150 grain bullet traveling in the downward vertical direction — when it is returning to earth having been fired upwards, or perhaps just dropped from a tower — according to a 1920 U.S. Army Ordnance study.

Of course there is, and Gaia help us if all those options were expended to no effect.

But it would be nice to be able to discuss perhaps ramifications upon the nation, historical similarities with the founding generation, impact upon society, whatever, without being accused of attempting to foment Rancid because of a supposed survivalist fantasy.

There are a lot of intelligent people here who could give great insight, it’s too bad it can’t be utilized in that vein. It was the defining moment of our nation and its been relegated to the same dark cellar as that which holds racial slurs.

An attorney I know was doing a dependency trial in Island County court this week. The social worker was testifying about a cockatoo in the parent’s apartment that she didn’t like. She said that the bird had been trained to say profanities and wouldn’t be good around the children.

When she started to describe the words the bird supposedly said, my friend interrupted with, “Objection, Your Honor. Hearsay.”

After the courtroom got done belly laughing, the judge sustained the objection.

what’s the word for that? Oh ya democrat.

Indian Outlaw on March 25, 2010 at 10:39 PM

I’d like to see the left and the Democrats confronted directly with the fact that they are anti-white bigots who foment racial hatred for political gain.

What has been the leading criticism of the Tea Partiers? “They’re white!” And?… They consider being white to be a crime.

And what has been the Republican and conservative response. “We aren’t all white, there are other ethnic groups with us, too!…(sniffle).” The Dems count on people feeling ashamed just for being white and usually they get away with it. The Republicans are totally intimidated wimps on this issue.

I don’t have high hopes this will be addressed at HotAir. It’s too hot of a subject and they’re afraid of getting smeared by a certain blogger named “Chuckie.” Andrew Breitbart touches on the subject in his recent article about the ridiculous goings on before the healthcare vote last weekend.

If you’re white, the Democratic Party hates your guts. You’re a racist, you’re a violent extremist and, well, you’re just white. And white is always bad. “If you’re white, you ain’t alright.” The Dems are anti-white racists. It’s as simple as that.

What you guys have been doing is taking the lack of evidence as proof that it simply didn’t happen. That’s stupid. Would you agree?
crr6 on March 25, 2010 at 9:17 PM

Ah, its lack of evidence at the PLACE and at the TIME as recorded on video and audio that would cause one to say it didn’t happen.

Think of it like this,

A store clerk calls the cops to report he’s just been robbed.

Cops show up and take the story.

Clerk says he was robbed at 9:30 pm.

Store video cam shows no one in the store at 9:30 pm. In fact the Store video cam doesn’t show anyone in the store from 7:30pm till the cops got there.

I would say the clerk is lying, Your claiming the lack of evidence that the clerk was robbed at 9:30pm doesn’t prove the clerk didn’t get robbed at 9:30pm.

I’m not a lawyer but I have been on a jury, you would lose your case on any jury I have been on.

jerrytbg on March 25, 2010 at 10:47 PM

Crr6, let’s try something a little new for you and apply logic as to why it is impossible to “prove a negative” (which I do believe you may be confusing the meaning of).

So, why is it so hard to prove something didn’t happen? Well, the main reason is that often times doing nothing leaves nothing as evidence. If you have no evidence then one must, logically (I know it’s difficult) come to the conclusion that it must not be true until such a time as evidence is presented.

You are arguing that “a lack of evidence doesn’t prove it didn’t happen.” I hate to break it to you, but if it didn’t happen then there won’t be evidence of it happening (crazy, I know), therefore it is logical (there’s that word again) to assume that the lack of evidence indicates that there was no such incident and therefore the Tea Party protesters are innocent until proven guilty (I shared this a little heatedly on Ed’s post the other day I believe)

I hope my little law lesson helped you, though I fear it fell on deaf ears (or dead brain if the ears are working).

I really feel sorry for your professors.

Well I’m not from anywhere, but I lived there for a while.
Right on the slough near downtown. There’s a city park there & we lived on that gravel road by it on the Sammamish parkway on the slough.
I thought it was hilarious how kids would always spray paint the Bot in the Welcome To Bothell sign.
And I am not surprised at the insanity.
I do not miss the imported wackos that have ruined that area.

This is what George Soros sunk all his money into? Really this is the vehicle “Progressives” that are going to take the country to the LEFT? These leftest are sad and most of them are ready for a rocking chair including Soros.

Joe Biden made a speech after we were attacked on 9/11. He said para phrasing. We treated the Soviets like they were 10 feet tall and when The Soviet Union collapsed, turns out they weren’t giants after all…he said, the thugs on 9/11 had a lot of luck working in their favor….even Osama was surprised he managed to bring the two world trade center buildings down. That was on video tape. Joe Biden said, Don’t treat these Terrorist Thugs like they are 10 feet tall because they aren’t…

And I am repeating his advice tonight, don’t treat these Progressives like the are 10 feet tall, because they aren’t. The People who identify Liberal in this country are about 22% and the Leftest – Progressives, are a sliver of that percentage. There are what 535 members of Congress, and over 300,000,000.00 of us. I don’t know about anyone else but if I am going down it’s not going to be by some punk elderly progressive trying to relive their “Hippy Glory Days” There is an election coming up, and I really don’t think many of these throw backs to the 60s are going to be able to make it another round.

People need to realize these aren’t your Parent’s Pinkos. The pendulum swings back and forth between the left and right in this country, we will settle somewhere back near the middle.

What Obama should have been doing today is holding a press conference trying to calm things down. What does he do instead? Fly to IA to sell something that has already been forced on us all and telling us “go for it”. Really?!
He is the most divisive president in history outside of Lincoln, I guess. But, Lincoln was divisive over two issues, emancipation and states rights. Obama is dealing at every table in the casino and screwing every sitting player. Even though a sizable portion of the population don’t even realize it, yet!
Beyond the war, which I’m convinced is just a distraction to him, there is not much beyond campaigning in Allinsky’s memory.

I honestly think Clyburn and Lewis saw so many yelling white people that they both suffered flashbacks and imagined this hole thing.
And as I said before, Clyburn has been race baiting so much lately that even President Clinton has disowned him becasue of it.

crr6 on March 25, 2010 at 9:17 PM

Would you agree we live in a country where the onus is on the accuser to produce the evidence that proves the accused is guilty? At least I think we still do — I wouldn’t swear to it given the regime we have in power right now.

Do us all a favor and skip the whole practice of law thing. You’re going to get some poor innocent person jailed for something they didn’t do, or cause them to lose their livelihood with your spectacular incompetence. Better for you to do like all of the other leftist law school grads and become a lecturer instead, or maybe a community agitator. Just please stay out of the courtroom.

crr6 on March 25, 2010 at 9:39 PM

Being a student is not a profession, you have absolutely no idea what awaits you and your Utopian ideas when you hit the streets. You should pay more attention in class than posting on here. All those wonderfull sounding, left leaning ideas that come from your teachers are not on the bar exam. I sit next to some Law School graduates that are as left as the day is long who cannot pass the bar. It has done wonders for their careers.
