Video: ACORN closing its doors

posted at 9:30 am on March 23, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

This can’t be good news for Democrats. ACORN, the community-activist group that regularly runs voter registration drives to bolster Democratic candidates for election at all levels, has been bankrupted after a series of videos caught a number of offices attempting to help undercover journalists posing as a pimp and prostitute. Funding and donations has “dried up,” the Associated Press reports, as a result of the revealing look inside the once-mighty organization:

Give James O’Keefe, Hannah Giles, Andrew Breitbart, and Big Government a big round of applause for their work on those tapes. They even had Clark Hoyt of the New York Times defending their actions two days ago. Those tapes did what years of complaints about voter-registration fraud at ACORN offices couldn’t, which was to expose the everyday corruption taking place at ACORN offices around the nation.

Don’t get too complacent. While ACORN closes its doors, the same people will undoubtedly reorganize under a new banner and return to the same practices. For now, though, ACORN will suddenly be absent from an election cycle for the first time in many years — and Democrats will have lost some valuable generalship for foot soldiers just when they needed it the most.

Interesting.

The Dems are sure doing their best to shoot themselves in the foot, in terms of relating to the general populace. I found this story interesting- pretty far down the food chain, but a Dem primary candidate (and Lutheran minister) is dropping out of the race and attributing it to the Healthcare debacle.

What I don’t get is that Obama just ordered funding to be reinstated for ACORN. Why bother doing this if they’re going under? He’ll take the political hit for nothing.

As for ACORN itself, of course we all know they’ll reemerge under a new name in the near future. But that’ll still require time and money, so this is a major setback for the Democrat Party.

While ACORN closes its doors, the same people will undoubtedly reorganize under a new banner and return to the same practices.

They are simply re-branding since the right has effectively shut down federal funding. I’m sure the White House will be given a cheat sheet as to what accounts the money needs to be funnelled in whatever new names replace ACORN.

highhopes on March 23, 2010 at 9:57 AM

For the judge who ordered the continued funding: give the money to a bankrupt organization? Is that legal? In general practice any money sent within 10 days to an organization’s filing can’t get it back. But a stop-hold is usually requested by “debtors” until the re-organization is complete. Assuming a chapter for reorganization is what is filed. Are the intending to reorganize legally as ACORN or just go away, chapter 7.

Besides, Congress can pass a law that no judge or president can simply override that eliminates funding to whatever. Yes, it can be challenged in court, but the process takes years. By then ACORN will have morphed into Acornocrats, my new name for the Democrats.

Robert17 on March 23, 2010 at 9:58 AM

ROCnPhilly on March 23, 2010 at 9:50 AM

ACORN under whatever name is busy right now with rigging the census numbers to favor left-leaning municipalities and districts. The voter fraud operations are at least a couple months off as they are too busy filling out census forms to be worried with voter registration cards.

That’s a lot of funding, from a lot of private companies. I suspect the lack, or pulling of funding is in part leading to their alleged demise. My question is…..if this funding continues to dry up, can they make it on Govt. funding alone? Or will there be an underground with which to donate?

If I recall correctly, Walmart was a huge contributor to them?

Remember Obama had swimming in this cesspool on his C.V. Their core business of doing shakedowns of corporations is gone. They still have Demms needing bogus voter activities and willing to pay for it.
Again shakedowns of banks to do sub prime loans and give them millions is over. They also have no opportunity to get money by shaking down Walmart and others. This may shaft the causes championed by the SEIU.

But there is an illegal thing called a “Bill of Attainder“. It basically is a rule which is written to harm/benefit a single person/entity.

A person or entity is NOT a citizen of the United States, they are the Citizen of a State, which is a member of the United States. I dislike the creep which took a dramatic leap forward by Lincoln to make us all under the power of the United States.

That’s why I propose we refer to Obama’s campaign organization by the generic term “NUTBAG.”

I listened to two local news affiliates explaining the Acorn shut-down by saying it was the fallout from a scandal that was exposed when: “a video came out showing an Acorn employee giving tax tips to two conservative activists who were posing as a prostitute and her pimp.”

A video ?!!! Try many videos on many separate occasions!!

An employee?!!! Try many employees from Acorn offices around the country!!

Tax tips?!!! Try corrupt scheming to fraudulently pull federal funds into an illegal and abhorrent enterprise – underage sex trafficking.

Just the national newswire (MSM) apologists for Dem corruptocrats playing their role to the bitter end.
