Heh: Obama hasn’t signed Stupak’s executive order on abortion yet; Update: Will sign tomorrow
posted at 8:51 pm on March 23, 2010 by Allahpundit
Our rooting interest here is that The One double-crosses him and doesn’t sign it at all, right? In theory, it’s a dilemma because conservatives want whatever meager protection for the unborn that Obama’s willing to give. But if you believe that the executive order’s a purely symbolic gesture that’s worth nothing in practice, then who cares if he signs it or not? Better that he doesn’t sign it, in fact, and proves once for and all to the suckers in the Democratic pro-life caucus just what an ignoble sellout Stupak’s deal turned out to be.
Not that they’d care.
President Obama signed the Senate health care bill into law Tuesday. He did not sign the executive order on abortion negotiated with Michigan Democratic Congressman Bart Stupak in an 11th-hour arrangement that may well have saved the entire health care reform effort.
A White House official told Fox, Obama will not sign the Executive Order Tuesday and has set no specific date to do so. Stupak predicted Obama would sign the order later this week. The White House said only that Obama would sign the order “soon.”
In two celebratory speeches Tuesday – one at the bill’s signing, the other at the Interior Department with health care advocates – Obama said nothing about the abortion issue or the executive order…
“Throughout history, Executive Orders have been an important means of implementing public policy,” Stupak said in a statement. “The most famous Executive Order was the Emancipation Proclamation signed by President Lincoln in 1863.”
He’ll sign it, I’m sure. It’ll pain him to do so, but so total and sudden a betrayal would it be that it’d actually damage him within his own caucus. The president’s word has to mean something, at least for a few months until everyone forgets about this and he can quietly rescind the order; if it doesn’t, there’s no reason for any Democrat to make a deal with him on any future bill. I do think it’s humiliating for Stupak, though — and gratifyingly so — that Obama wouldn’t so much as sign the order today. No one expects him to talk it up at the big ceremony lest it offend the Lords of Abortion in attendance, but there’s no reason he couldn’t have taken care of it afterwards in his office. If NARAL can cope with it being signed tomorrow, they could have coped with it being signed today. Consider this just another small piece of evidence that William McGurn’s right and that the pro-life wing of the Democratic Party is now, for all intents and purposes, finished.
Via Johnny Dollar, here’s Andrew Napolitano yesterday reminding Fox’s audience that the deal that saved ObamaCare is worth squat. Although I should actually call it the deal which we thought saved ObamaCare: Stupak’s now going around telling people that it doesn’t matter that he caved because Pelosi had enough votes anyway. In which case, why didn’t you just walk away and vote no, dummy?
Update: As predicted, he can’t stab Stupak in the back. Yet. Tomorrow’s the day.

If abortion is in there, then increased selective sterilization procedures, condom use, etc must be as well. See it for what it is, its not “choice” its population control, at least partially.
ted c on March 23, 2010 at 9:29 PM
Full disclosure: I’m a pro-choice independent. But I’ve never been one of those “abortion on demand!” people, I support restrictions on abortion (partial-birth, for instance, should be outright banned), and am completely against taxpayers funding abortion whatsoever.
That said:
I actually want this so much it makes my gums ache.
Petty, I know. It’s not because I don’t want the abortion-funding protections int here. It’s because I want every SUPPOSEDLY pro-life Democrat who voted for this monstrosity to be completely and utterly humiliated by Obama stabbing them visibly (though metaphorically) in the back just days after this “compromise.” I’d also like to see their constituents kick them out of office, and then tar and feather them (old-school style, with real boiling tar) for their betrayal of their SUPPOSED principles.
Alas, I likely won’t get any of that.

Funny thing I heard: Palin saying she was “disappointed” in Stupak and McCain today listing bribes but insisting that Congress was filled with honorable men and women.
In fact, the question to Palin was, Why do you think he did it? And the correct answer would have been, “Cowardice.”

You cannot prove anything “once and for all” to the democrats or their constituencies. Here in NC, they have been running the state for more than 100 years, and run every election on promises to fix the same problems than the election before. And the suckers keep re-electing them believing that this time they will actually fix something.

And of course they’re going to spend public money on abortion. We’re talking about Mr. Infanticide signing this EO and Sibelius a radical pro-abort being directed to evaluate and make policy on this EO.

He’ll sign it. And then it’ll go into his drawer and he’ll forget about it. Even if the thing could have some legal affect, does anybody think Obama is going to insist that his administration adhere to the thing?
The Emancipation Proclamation didn’t free any slaves, that’s why we needed a Constitutional Amendment.
Bush’s embryonic stem cell executive order did not contradict any statute passed by Congress. Congress allocated money to certain Executive branches pertaining to biological research and the President instructed (via EO) his people how to distribute those funds. When Congress twice tried to pass a law insisting on broader funding of embryonic stem cell research Bush vetoed the bills. What Stupak, and proponents of the present EO are saying is that Bush could have allowed the stem cell bills to pass and simply issued an Executive Order countermanding them. Nobody thinks that makes any sense. That’s because it doesn’t.

England is perhaps the only great country whose intellectuals are ashamed of their own nationality. In left-wing circles it is always felt that there is something slightly disgraceful in being an Englishman and that it is a duty to snigger at every English institution, from horse racing to suet puddings. It is a strange fact, but it is unquestionably true that almost any English intellectual would feel more ashamed of standing to attention during ‘God save the King’ than of stealing from a poor box. All through the critical years many left-wingers were chipping away at English morale, trying to spread an outlook that was sometimes squashily pacifist, sometimes violently pro-Russian, but always anti-British. It is questionable how much effect this had, but it certainly had some. If the English people suffered for several years a real weakening of morale, so that the Fascist nations judged that they were ‘decadent’ and that it was safe to plunge into war, the intellectual sabotage from the Left was partly responsible.

Report: Michigan could get $187M in earmarks
By Shawn Smith
March 06, 2009, 10:05AM
DETROIT (AP) — A published report says Michigan could get $187 million in federal funds for nearly 300 projects because of earmarks related to a $410 billion appropriations bill moving through Congress.
The Detroit News reports Friday spending items include $30 million to operate and maintain the Soo Locks at Sault Ste. Marie and $17 million for construction of a replacement lock to improve Great Lakes shipping.
Earmarks include $3.8 million to preserve and redevelop part of old Tiger Stadium to help revitalize a distressed area of Detroit, $6 million for dredging and $951,500 to pay for energy efficient street lights in Detroit.
More proposed spending includes $950,000 each for an Ann Arbor to Detroit rail project and Oakland County International Airport.

“The World Is Very Evil”
by Bernard of Morlas, 12th century
Translated by John M. Neale, 1818-1866
The world is very evil,
The times are waxing late;
Be sober and keep vigil,
The Judge is at the gate;
The Judge that comes in mercy,
The Judge that comes with might,
To terminate the evil,
To diadem the right.
Arise, arise, good Christian,
Let right to wrong succeed;
Let penitential sorrow
To heav’nly gladness lead,
To light that hath no evening,
That knows no moon nor sun,
The light so new and golden,
The light that is but one.
O home of fadeless splendor,
Of flow’rs that bear no thorn,
Where they shall dwell as children
Who here as exiles mourn.
Midst pow’r that knows no limit,
Where knowledge has no bound,
The beatific vision
Shall glad the saints around.
Strive, man, to win that glory;
Toil, man, to gain that light;
Send hope before to grasp it
Till hope be lost in sight.
Exult, O dust and ashes,
The Lord shall be thy part;
His only, His forever,
Thou shalt be and thou art.
O sweet and blessed country,
The home of God’s elect!
O sweet and blessed country
That eager hearts expect!
Jesus, in mercy bring us
To that dear land of rest,
Who art, with God the Father
And Spirit, ever blest.

Obama’s Double-Talk
Barack Obama’s revelatory moment may have come in his first week as president. On his first day of work, he signed an executive order prohibiting lobbyists from holding highranking administration jobs, thereby fulfilling a campaign promise to “close the revolving door” between K Street and government via “the most sweeping ethics reform in history.” Two days later, the president granted a “waiver” from the new rules to install Raytheon lobbyist William Lynn as the No. 2 man in the Pentagon.
An executive order from pathological liar Herr Obama isn’t worth a warm bucket of spit.

Wonder what the language would be. Doesn’t matter, he signs a piece of paper and it can have a drawing of SpongeBob on it and the Democrats won’t care. Stupak will still say it was the right thing.
