Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?
posted at 9:00 am on March 21, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
It’s time once again to pick the Obamateurism of the Week, and I’m about 3000% sure which one will win this survey. Still, I don’t want to prevent you from talking amongst yourselves about whether that’s the right choice. I’d just encourage you to get your stories straight first, or at least your math. Pick the one that moves you, or rocks your Hawaiian world, if you will. At least with these, if you fumble your approach, it doesn’t result in an eruption of fighting … just a barrage of insulting comments.
Previous 2010 “winners”:
- Obama off by $868 billion on CBO deficit savings projection of ObamaCare
- Obama challenges GOP on tort reform, winds up proving GOP point on reconciliation
- Obama’s “Acme Insurance” anecdote proves he doesn’t understand insurance
- Obama claims 2 million jobs saved or created, website shows 590K
- Obama gripes about filibusters in a year with none … after having 60 seats in the Senate
- Obama says “corpse-man” for corpsman 3 times at Nat’l Prayer Breakfast
- Scolding the Supreme Court over ruling that he got completely wrong during SOTU
- People are unhappy with Obama’s performance because he didn’t get enough public face time to explain himself
- Suddenly jobs saved or created “never expected to be the public accounting of Obama’s goal to save or create 3.5 million jobs”
- Obama rushes home for minor injury to family friend, keeps golfing after EunuchBomber attack

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Promising to unconstitutionally use the “Slaughter Rule” to pass his entire agenda proves Obama’s audacity of hope.
Whether Democrats admit to applying the Slaughter Rule or not, they will by nature. Socialism always provides the fraud necessary to get ahead.
Reflect again on the PROGRESSIVE Newt Gingrich’s legacy to dissolve Constitutional Governance as an impediment to getting his way come hell or high water.
Prepare the donations supporting Mark Levin’s non-profit court challenge against the ‘Slaughter Rule’.

I would vote for his comments to legislators that they had to vote in favor of this health care travesty to save his presidency. That tells everyone everything they they need to know about BO. It’s a clear statement that he is unfit to be POTUS because leading a great nation is NOT about him. It’s about its people.
The rest is the usual tripe that would never go unnoticed if a conservative made the same remarks. Maybe one of these days some brave soul in the MSM will ask him so spell ‘potato.’
Cody1991 on March 21, 2010 at 9:19 AM
Hard ones this week. The only one I wouldn’t have voted for is number 1. Not because it’s ok but because it’s the least harmful. Tend to judge these by the amount of all over harm they might do.

I have to go with the 3000% blunder. It’s just plain laughable to watch this incompetent boob we have for a president when he doesn’t have a teleprompter there to make him appear as though he any kind of general knowledge, let alone an understanding of basic mathematics.
Imagine if Bush had said the same thing. The MSM would be calling for impeachment proceedings.

Ed,
I have a suggestion. Instead of the Obamateurism of the Week, how about a “Obama Made Senseism” of the week?
There are hundreds of the former and so hard to keep up with them all. But in any given week he makes sense once or twice and that would be a better poll.

Not sure I can get the math right wither, but as an employer I like the dicount idea. If I pay $500 per month for an employee’s to be covered, under Obama care my insurance carrier will now give me something around $1.5 Million per month for each of those employees. What a guy!
MikeA on March 21, 2010 at 9:30 AM
The ObamaCare will bankrupt America while destroying and abusing all privacy at the same time.
Without a vital economy, it doesn’t matter what our national interests are to others. “Live and let live” is NOT the international globalist agenda.
No matter who is potus, there isn’t going to be MiddleEast Peace, though there could be the endless “peace negotiations” that mean nothing to the fundamentalists and their alliances. “Peace negotiations” don’t necessarily imply a truce, given Hamas rockets and ideology.
Obama “owning” the MSM is no longer news breaking, and his abuse choking journalism and the voice of the people is not amateurish, most most starkly efficient. That the media do not effectively expose Obama’s poor character, lack of intellectual prowess, and his professional abuses of the Constitution is THE MEDIA’S fault. That they function now as if juvenile delinquents is not only their fault as adults, but everyone who sponsors them economically with purchases. The “Slaughter Rule” enables the hidden ear-mark inside passing legislation to subsidize the socialist MSM with taxes.

here’s your morning motivational tune today. Three of us walked through congress yesterday and confronted several congressmen and staff members. We prayed at their doorstep, we politely challenged their oath of office, their authority, as well as their manhood, if necessary.
Trust me, they’re scared–they’re hearing us. This is not over. One republican congressman from Houston, TX said we need to run this race “all the way through the tape.” It is not done–the winds are at our back.

faol on March 21, 2010 at 9:39 AM
I picked number 4, although I don’t think it’s effect was unintentional. It was only an amateurish move in the sense that Obama apparently thinks that it won’t affect how he is perceived and supported by those who continue to back Israel. And because he may be naive enough to think that he can ram a ‘peace settlement’ through in Israel much in the same way he’s about to ram his ‘health care’ bill down America’s throat. His specialty seems to be giving people exactly what they don’t want, and that which will certainly make circumstances far worse than they already are. Truly a ‘revolutionary’ president.
Off topic, but I was looking at Daniel Foster’s schedule of votes for today at The Corner on NRO. Can someone explain to me how the House can vote on a reconciliation bill for a Senate bill before they actually vote for the Senate bill?

Years from now “let me be clear” will be the signature quote from his Caliphacy. Of course what he really means is “I’m getting ready to lie to you one more time you _____ _____ to see if you can understand”.
“Let me be Clear” will join:
Nixons “my fellow Americans”
Reagans “wwwwwwellllll”
Bush41s “thousand points of light”
Clintons “I did not have sexual relations ……”
and Bush43s “nucllllur”

If there were still a reasonable chance of dedeat, money would be coming in from insiders driving the price down.
At this point all we can hope for is a good November followed by some GOP backbone in 2011 and 2012 to gut it as much as possible if not an outright repeal. I’m not too optimistic on either happening.

Ed, I don’t want to go OT on this thread, so perhaps we could have a thread to discuss our ideas and commitment to bring America back to the people.
It would be great to discuss ideas, things we pledge to do every day – regardless of how Congress votes on this bill. The fact that this bill could be so close to being passed is the essence of the problem.
I know people are already working hard, but there are a lot of good ideas out here. There is something everyone can do even if they have limited resources or can’t get to rallies. After listening to you and Mitch on NARN yesterday I had to get away from the news to think, pray and enjoy a glorious first day of spring. In the evening I began working on my own plan.
How about an ongoing thread with ideas (not griping), useful information, etc.?
Thanks

As a Syrcause grad, I can’t believe you left out Obama’s mis-spelling of “Sycacuse” on national TV when he was filling out his ESPN bracket, especially with the word already written on for him on the bracket board in the first-round match-ups. A trivial mistake in the big picture of things this past week, but it definitely falls under the category of “What if a Republican had done it?” in terms of how the media would have reacted (see Quayle, Dan and his potato(e) spelling for a real-life example).

I do not trust Intrade. We can beat this thing and Pelosi and Obama still have to do a lot of wrangling to pass this thing. Can they do pull it off? That is the question of the day, I think.
Shogun144 on March 21, 2010 at 9:58 AM
The 3000% reduction is, in my opinion, one of the most incredible Obamateurisms ever. It is a measure of the fiscal difficulties now faced by the United States that the current abomination of a POTUS doesn’t understand that a 100% reduction would reduce premiums to zero. Most of us learned percentages in public school.
Basilsbest on March 21, 2010 at 9:59 AM
Obama could keep the EO in place until 2013, after the 2012, when the federal subsidies and coverage actually start, and Stupak has left Congress to run for governor.
Until the subsidies start, the EO really has no effect. And they all know it.
Wethal on March 21, 2010 at 10:02 AM

Ed, I’m 3000% sure you missed a good one that was even captured in the 1st clip of yesterday’s QOTD.
Obamateur told Congress that he was once in their shoes and had to make tough decisions. The only tough decision he had to make was wheter to vote PRESENT or to be away campaigning. Not only as Senator, but while in the State legislature.
AH_C on March 21, 2010 at 10:10 AM
Let’s get real.
I think LBJ coined the phrase “My fellow Americans”. Reagan will most certainly not be remembered for saying “Well”, except to Democrats who never gave him any credit for bringing down the Soviet Union. Bush 41, the phrase “read my lips, no new taxes” brought down his presidency – because he had to go back on his word and raise them. The “thousand points of light” didn’t cause him any political harm, but the MSM and Dana Carvey had fun with that line. Clinton you got right, and there are a thousand other lines you could attribute to his legacy – including “Depends what the meaning of is, is. As for Bush 43, his pronunciation of nuclear will be far less remembered than the “Mission Impossible” Banner. Besides, I have heard many other politicians and journalists alike say nukkular instead of nuclear, all of them very forgettable folks.
fogw on March 21, 2010 at 10:10 AM
This is the fourth or fifth time now that Stupak has said he thinks he is close to a deal with the President or the Speaker. He has not caved yet, what makes you so sure he will cave now? I know that Stupak is a Dem, trust me I have fought with the man many times in the past as a very frustrated constituent of his. All we can do is continue to burn the phone lines, melt the e-mail boxes, and exert counter-pressure on them for every bit of pressure coming out of the Speaker’s Office and the White House. Oh and pray. Prayer helps, every word.
Oh and give a post relevant to the topic:
I am going with Obama’s messing up of the “Peace Process” in the Middle East. That was a true mistake on his part and a massive miscalculation of his power.
Shogun144 on March 21, 2010 at 10:11 AM
I disagree. I think all it really tells us is that he isn’t even thinking about the meaning of the words scrolling across the teleprompter. His focus is on the superficial elements of his performance, not on meaning.
