Video: “America’s Comeback”

The Republican Governors Association published this video during the week, a slick production of a think piece and philosophical declaration rather than a specific policy statement. Instead of looking to Washington for all of the answers, we need to look to ourselves and our communities, the RGA believes, and delivers that message in a dramatic presentation. A bit long, but then they have a lot of ground to cover:

It’s a rather stirring video, as it’s intended to be, and well done. Other than the corruption under Democratic leadership, there are few specifics, but it’s not supposed to be an issue debate, either. This will appeal to the large majority of people who believe this country is headed in the wrong direction – now two-thirds of the country — and give that dissatisfaction a theme.

The RGA is a natural mechanism for an anti-Washington message. Let’s hope that the rest of the Republican Party has learned from its “big-government conservatism” experiment in the last decade.

I might add that the article I linked to (ABC) paints these militia groups as the producers of the likes of McVeigh; to be expected by the enemy within. Here in my home state of Montana, militia groups are all about preserving our constitution and the freedoms and liberties that come with.

It starts in the schools. As much as I loathe Willam Ayers, I have to give him credit. He put away the pipe bombs and indoctrinated an entire generation of left-wing radicals to become teachers, who have almost completely infiltrated our educational system. Ward Churchill is not an aberration. He’s just a public example of the norm that sadly can be found at every level from kindergarten through post-grad.

Disagree… This is a County by County, State by State movement that will take a few election cycles to gain the desired results. Conservative’s are going to win big in my home state this year. Any sign of a RINO and that candidate is shamed into retirement. We could run a rainbow trout against Tester in 2012 and the trout would win.

If the Republican Party does not let go of its Romney/Gingrich (etc., etc.) buddy-buddy tendency,

it will be crushed by the neo-totalitarian Obama Party.

Absolutely agree with most of the posters here. Sarah Palin is not only despised by the Progressive’s, she is also despised by the country club GOP elite. In order to rid our party of the mistakes of the past, we must rid our party of those who caused the downfall. We have several new faces in the GOP that are standing on principle and fighting for us. Mitt Romney is not a governor any longer, Newt Gingrich has not been elected to anything for a long time and Lindsey Graham and John McCain are not very popular among a lot of Republicans and conservatives (as are the first two people for that matter)and yet we have these four given prime time in the video. But Sarah Palin is not in the video? And I don’t believe Mike Huckabee is either unless I missed him after viewing the video twice. Mind you the two missing ex governors have something in common that a lot of Rino’s don’t like. Personally I think the video is aimed at certain Republicans as much as it is aimed at Democrats

I do agree that my fellow conservatives in the US are weak. One thing that George W. Bush admired most about former Prime Minister of Australia John Howard was his spine of steel. It’s a shame he didn’t develop one against his domestic opposition.

We have hundreds of members of local militia groups helping us in every way they can with our Tea Party events, fund raising for Conservative candidates, and all other efforts we have taking place here in Montana. Many of these folks are union members (mine workers) who are 100% on our side, the side of freedom and liberty for all Americans. I have never seen this kind of civilian energy before in my lifetime. I have faith that in the end, the people will prevail.

After all, we have Ed Morrissey on our side!

GREAT, lets get motivated to resist this existential threat to our democratic republic but for God’s sake, lets not look into what exactly he is hiding in all of his sealed records! It seems hopeless having to fight on so many fronts. A half dozen or so simple steps would solve the majority of our problems.
1 – Abolish the IRS and 16th Amendment – replace it with the FairTax. We the people would control how much revenue would get to the greedy little hands of these parasites. The natural and REAL stimulation this alone would provide the economy is enough of a reason to do it. Starving the Federal beast is gravy.
2- DRASTICALLY cut Federal spending, not just a freeze at current levels. The Federal govt should exist to provide a common defense for this UNION OF STATES. Very few things need or should be controlled at the federal level. Lets start with abolishing the EPA, Education Dept, Dept of the Interior off the top of my head.
3- Allow exploration of our own energy. Our current energy policy is preposterous and treasonous. We have enough gas, oil and coal to hold us over for the next few centuries until the next REAL energy breakthrough happens, not wind, solar, geothermal, algae whatever the insane, dope smoking, EPA pipe dream of the day is. This breakthrough will be discovered by Private industry, not the Federal Govt. We have the energy and we would profit from its extraction and domestic use on so many levels. We need to build a 100 more nuke plants and RECYCLE our spent fuel like the French do. I read that all of the spent nuclear fuel in the country would fit into one high school gymnasium. This is what the Yucca Mtn controversy is about???
4- RE-assert states rights via the 10th amendment and keep the closet communist/statist/progressive, (again whatever the insane, dope smoking, cappuccino sipping, treasonous jackasses call themselves today) from telling us how to live our lives as free men. If Vermont wants to be socialist or California want to run their state into the ground, they have that right. Citizens of those states also have a right to move if they don’t wish to live like that. Texas, which actually manages it’s finances can probably handle another 50 million immigrants from the failing states!
5-RE-invest in our military to keep us strong. We have the technology to provide an adequate missile defense for ourselves, and yet we recklessly depend on the psychopaths to NOT attack us by lobbing a nuke at Hawaii or detonating an EMP weapon over the COntininetal U.S. Those who would trade freedom for peace deserve neither.
we need to stop Europeanizing our country. This land is the great experiment in human freedom and has, up until recently been wildly successful at creating prosperity for all, even those citizens who would rather be taken care of by the govt rather than take control of their own destiny. We need to re-affirm these very basic principles that are the foundations of our freedom. This will make it obvious to the rest of the world, we will NOT lower our standards to your level. You need to raise your own standards to ours to provide basic human freedoms and prosperity to your people.

It really is mainstream. Not only have Americans armed up, loaded the shelves with canned and dry food, but we have united against tyranny the likes of which makes me proud beyond words.

Off to work I go; with two sons in college and a wife (architect) that has little to no work, I must do everything possible to keep this family afloat. This evening, the wife and I will be hauling in some local trout to serve for supper. Might just as well enjoy some fishing before Obama outlaws it.

I went to the same American high school as Newt in Germany, a year behind him. While I recognize that it is time for me to pass my business on to younger people, Newt, McCain, and other very senior politicians won’t let go. They are holding us back, and it is too bad that the video highlighted them instead of all of the younger faces of the many and varied younger republicans who are becoming known to the American public.

It’s too fast-paced. We here understand all the fleeting allusions to “astroturf” and the like, but if you want to evangelize the average Joe, the guy in the middle who usually doesn’t fixate on politics, who votes Crat because he always did and doesn’t think much about it, who knows something is wrong now but can’t pinpoint responsibility yet, who is able to be swayed, then you need to take a little time and make the connection for him. It is winning these people that will make the difference between failure and victory. The background music is a bit overwrought too.

I do agree that my fellow conservatives in the US are weak. One thing that George W. Bush admired most about former Prime Minister of Australia John Howard was his spine of steel. It’s a shame he didn’t develop one against his domestic opposition.

I think it’s a good video and certainly better in terms of production values than the cheesy stuff the RNC turns out, but I agree with those who note Palin’s absence as conspicuous. She more than anyone has been on the front lines of this health care debate, taking down Dear Leader on a regular basis. She fired the first shot with her death panels remark. It would have been appropriate to have included her I think, and the fact that she’s missing is telling I think.

I’m fairly sure you have hit upon the great big elephant in the room. America no longer prays. Sure, a few of us pray very hard and consistently, but America doesn’t. We have let the likes of the ACLU stop us; not to mention the liberals/libertines/atheists… filling the minds of our youth in schools where they learn exactly how awful Christopher Columbus was, but don’t know a thing about the faith of our founding fathers. They learn BS about how they were only deists, if they believed in a god at all.

And now, we have ‘fiscal conservatives’/social libertines pleased when there is no mention of social values at the Tea Parties, because ‘those things are divisive.’ As noted by others, Sarah Palin missing from this is highly conspicuous. We as a nation don’t believe this anymore. It isn’t taught and fiscal conservatives are all too happy to tell ‘social conservatives’ ie religious, God-fearing people, to sit down and shut up. I’ve even seen people on these boards that I have respected, take the position that we need to worry about economics at any cost (and then we can worry about ‘social values’). They choose their pocketbook and economic freedom over life and morality and argue that without a strong economy we don’t need to worry about any of that other stuff.

I don’t think God is blessing America anymore, and I can’t say that I blame Him. I do pray, but I can’t help but think we have reached the point of Jeremiah 7:16-17. Seest thou what they do in the cities of Kansas and in the streets of San Francisco? It may not be this bill, this weekend, but it is only a matter of time (and not very much). The daily readings at Mass a couple weeks ago were practically screaming at the US, but she is not listening. God have mercy on our children.

I agree with the video’s message, and it’s visual production is well done but I have a serious issue with the choice of narrator. That subjective, breathy, world-is-about-to-end voice is WAY over the top., and a huge mistake. It is obviously like a voice a marketing firm would use on the trailer of a horror film, and while what’s going on is indeed to some a horror, the effect is twofold:
1. that we are stupid audience members who are susceptible to blatant manipulation.
2. that the problem is a fiction, not an objective real-world narrative.

MUCH better to have a narrator who is perfectly objective. Someone who sounds like they have no emotional bias, like a good news anchor. Then the message is more likely to be perceived as fact instead of fiction, which it is.
