Report: WH sending unsolicited e-mails touting O-Care to federal employees
posted at 10:02 pm on March 19, 2010 by Allahpundit
There’s something soooo familiar about this.
The Department of State employees, who receive hundreds of official government emails every day, have complained about the annoying and partisan emails but are nervous to go public for fear of retribution. The emails are addressed to the federal employees by name and use the official .gov address.
The unsolicited emails also request that the federal employees take action in order to ensure that Obama’s health reform package is passed and the federal budget isn’t at risk for bankruptcy. One federal employee was so concerned about DeParle’s language in one email that he questioned whether his department’s budget would be cut or eliminated without passage of Obama’s bill. DeParle uses scare tactics that some assume are meant as threats:
“No ifs, ands or buts about it — if we do nothing to reform our broken health care system, costs will continue to skyrocket and break the budgets of American families, small businesses and the Federal Government,” read the March 12th email from DeParle…
DeParle’s solicitation requests federal employees act on behalf of the President’s agenda by making this directive: “You can help raise awareness by sharing this email with your friends, family and online networks,” read the March 11th email from DeParle.
These sound like the sort of robotic talking point blast e-mails Organizing for America sends out to its mailing list, not personal missives drafted by some White House lackey. Even so, remember when Major Garrett was chasing a similar story last summer? At first the suspicion was that O-bots were signing up their friends for White House spam without asking them, then the suspicion turned to the possibility that the recipients had e-mailed a Democratic senator or congressman from their account and their address was transferred from there to a White House mailing list. You would have thought that they’d tighten up their procedures after the scrutiny from Fox and the GOP, but nope: Evidently they can’t be bothered to filter the list to even the minimal extent of removing .gov addresses.
Normally I’d chalk it up to an oversight, but after the last 10 days or so of The One’s economic collapse roadshow and the arm-twisting, brow-beating, and procedural glory in the House, why give them the benefit of the doubt?

Holder? Holder? Anyone seen Attorney General Holder?
I’m sure an ‘investigation’ will be opened shortly.

If we consider the audacity of the dope in the WH and his cronies/fellow-travelers, we can only conclude that ObaMao is pushing through the limits on multiple fronts to see how far he can get.
This constant campaigning and agenda-pushing on the taxpayers’ dime is unethical and illegal. This is pure propaganda being thrust on government employees and using them as messengers for the party line.

So this comes out at 10 pm on Friday night before they ruin the country. Hmm.

Good for you. I am in a rotten mood because I can’t go. However, I will find solace standing on the beautiful grounds Jefferson founded to teach about things like self-government and say a prayer for our country.

What grates on me even more is his misuse of what seems like a “poignant pause”. Instead of putting it where it might work he just puts it in front of the last syllable to word or two before the end of a sentence. But then they don’t call him the Indonesian Imbecile for naught.

Oh heck yeah I’ve heard it! His non-use of an indefinite article makes me wonder that English was not a first language and Mr. Ivy League Smarty Pants uses this particular affect on purpose to sound worldly or some such s#it.
Lanceman: yep – the whistling “ssss” is another unnerving habit such a serpent would use.
Maybe the man just plain gives me the creeps.

Any conservative Moody Blues fans out there? That might be an oxymoron since they are considered a Progressive Rock band. If you’ve never checked them out, they are awesome if you can get past some of the messages.
Anyway, this whole situation has got me thinking of the song ‘Story in Your Eyes’ where they keep singing “Well I’m frightened for your children.”

big Moody Blues fan; and agree

Not to mention “misuse and abuse” of Government facilities and systems – if the shoe was on the other foot, somebody would be gettin’ a whole lot of he11 for using their .gov account for personal business.

This is against the law. The Hatch Act, I believe.

Obama is a federal employee.
JellyToast on March 19, 2010 at 11:12 PM
Yes, there are such laws, and in nearly thirty years as a career civil servant in Washington, this is the most ideologically-driven crop of political appointees since the Reagan years. (Relax; beyond that, the comparison ends.) This hasn’t happened throughout the government. Not all of us are intimidated by stuff like this, and not all political appointees of this administration are experienced enough (or smart enough) to carry out any real threats without exposing themselves.

You betcha. Got the 1990 documentary on VHS. Practically wore it out, so now I gotta get the DVD, so I can wear THAT out.
You are correct. At least one agency head in the Bush administration got her wrist slapped over this one.

I’m a Federal employee, too, almost 30 years but I’m blue collar (an aircraft mechanic with the Department of Defense) – if this kind of garbage was going on among the common folks at the facility where I work, there would be bells and whistles going off everywhere.

Do you have any local Tea Party groups? I found one in my area. They’re renting a tour bus and leaving at 0630! Others are meeting there to caravan. Unfortunately I can’t go, but maybe there’s something like that in your neck of the woods.

It’s ok. I’ve always thought it oxymoronic to still call any music from the 60′s and 70′s ‘progressive rock.’

I left federal employment in the 90′s, but we were not allowed to voice an opinion during working hours on any pending legislation and certainly not allowed to use computers for personal use. This appears to be instructions for them to forward these emails, on the job? And, this is partisan politics, all dem votes.
Oleta on March 19, 2010 at 11:57 PM
I’m a disability retired federal employee, and this stuff is illegal, as are campaign buttons, distributing political messages or anything of the sort. Our offices could be asked our opinion on policy that is in place, but not voice a preference for policy that is in process. You also cannot use your position as a reason to vote for you should you campaign for public office, if memory serves, as that would be saying you have some approval to run for such office. In general its much better to quit service, first, and run for office, but some folks need to keep a day job going.
The first place to go is the Inspector General for the Agency or Department involved: they are the ones to begin proceedings and report abuses both to the DoJ and Congress. There are whistleblower lines for anyone inside government afraid of the repurcussions of losing their jobs over reporting such abuse, particularly if done by a superior. This is abuse of the resources of the US government for a purely partisan position and using the email system to mass email can be seen as a form of intimidation beyond waste, fraud and abuse.
If you are a federal employee and get such a mailing inform your supervisor and then the IGs office if you think it is coming from outside your Department or Agency, as this is a cause for IG to IG contact on abuse of federal resources. If more than one person in an office is getting such things, then compile all emails into a package and cite each one with hand written notation when you have printed it out with full headers. Your handwriting on a document makes it an original and legal document witnessed by you.
This is not minor. Whoever is doing this needs prosecution and if DoJ won’t do it, then the Agency or Department where they are originating can and must do so.
ajacksonian on March 20, 2010 at 6:45 AM
That all sounds good, ajacksonian, but he fires IG’s for doing their jobs. AG and doj isn’t going to get involved, they are all part of the takeover. Our govmint has been taken over from the inside and is run by people in civil service jobs from one admin to the next.

Amazon, last time I looked.
manwithblackhat on March 20, 2010 at 3:11 PM
The actions toward specific IGs in question notwithstanding, I think that’s a little paranoid. Some IG offices have been known to stand up to an agency head or an administration, especially if there’s a prospect of leaking to the press. The honeymoon with this guy is waning.

Has anyone filed a formal complaint yet? Does anyone plan to?
