Thought of the day: “If you don’t tie our hands, we will keep stealing”
posted at 7:31 pm on March 18, 2010 by Allahpundit
A tasty goodie via the boss emeritus. The speaker is Democrat Tom Perriello — still undecided on O-Care, by the way — but the message is most assuredly bipartisan. How this guy plans to justify a vote for universal health care after starkly admitting that Congress won’t balance its budgets absent some law forcing it to do so, I have no idea. But that’ll be a fun subplot to watch on the day of tears this weekend.
What this guy’s actually copping to is nothing less than the collapse of representative government. They could take up entitlement reform, but preserving the long-term economic viability of the United States simply isn’t enough incentive. Nothing short of a public initiative demanding that they behave in a responsible manner will get them to act responsibly. Once you’re at that point, you might as well have direct democracy. Which isn’t a real swift idea either.

Really? Bankruptcy isn’t enough of a motivator? Anyone been to Greece lately? It seems to have to inspired(or at least forced) the people in New Jersey to get their collective sh-t together.

Speaking as a Virginian, I can guarantee Perriello is toast if he votes for 0-care. He’s from a very conservative district. There’s a chance he could actually be tarred and feathered in that district if he succumbs to The One.

Sad, but true. I’m growing so cynical that part of me thinks this whole charade is just to get to the signing ceremony with the full intention that most of it won’t hold up under scrutiny or law. They have the media in their corner and each time a Repub rips something apart and attempts to dismantle it, they will start in on the theme that “republicans don’t want you to have healthcare”. Between Rahm and the media, that republican can be ripped to shreds in 60 seconds. I have faith in the party but it’s that pesky media that will beat this theme like a dead horse.

others could expand,a lot better than I can!
The Left have been at WAR with the right since Bush
took office, and they have played every trick in the
book!
After 8 years,the Left,with its poisonous politics
have made it so,that both sides were barely talking
to each other, and I could see that coming!!
They were not going to work with Bush, and now, they
have pushed it to the brink!!!
Thats the narrative Americans find themselves in now!!

A true tar and feather event was often fatal. The tar is hot…really hot. The tar was cooked and spread by any available means, either pouring or with mops or whatever you had. Then you just dump feathers on the victim. By this time, he ain’t running away. He’s most likely curled up on the ground screaming in agony.
I recommend taking them into the woods, staking them spread eagle, face down. Then insert a fresh honeycomb into their..um….you know. Then wait for the bears.

yoda on March 18, 2010 at 7:52 PM
In a typical tar-and-feathers attack, the subject of a crowd’s anger would be stripped to the waist. Boiling hot tar was either poured or painted onto the person while he or she was immobilized. Then the victim either had feathers thrown on him or her or was rolled around on a pile of feathers so that they stuck to the tar. Often the victim was then paraded around town on a cart or a rail. The aim was to hurt and humiliate a person enough to leave town and not cause any more mischief.
The practice was never an official punishment in the United States, and rather a form of vigilante justice. It was eventually abandoned as society moved away from public, corporal punishment and toward capital punishment and rehabilitation of criminals.
Here is a modern day example.
Urban Infidel on March 18, 2010 at 7:53 PM
That should be “usually not fatal”.
BobMbx on March 18, 2010 at 7:54 PM
Step 1: Heat up tar
Step 2: Apply tar liberally to victims bare skin
step 3: Apply feathers

It doesn’t surprise me at all! Many of them have a criminal mentality. It’s just that they don’t like fist fights or getting their hands dirty. They really are thieves. That’s why they don’t want term limits, vote their own salary raises and have cadillac health care plans.
They trash Wall St., Main St. and anyone else to deflect their flaws. They work sleazy deals like Fannie Mae to enrich themselves while raping the public and ultimately causing a global, economic meltdown.
Prior to the new media it was the same. The difference now is that we know more, and news travels fast these days!
As disgusting as it is (and it’s really sick-making) we can finally hold them to account. We have the knowledge and the ability to call, e-mail and organize rallies and marches efficiently. Of course, they are interested in shutting down Talk Radio and placing restrictions on the internet. They will do it if we let them.
There isn’t much that is amusing these days in politics, but there is one thing I truly enjoy and that is watching politicians like Pelosi, Rangel, Conyers, Dodd, et al come to the slow realization that everything they do is made public in seconds. It’s a whole new world for them, and it’s obvious that they don’t like it. That alone is enough to make me smile.

What makes you think that would matter? It’s not like their paying a great deal of attention to the constitution now. I hate to break it to you but it was always us and not the constitution that made this work. The constitution is just pretty words on expensive paper. Read the constitution of the USSR, and other failed nations that are floating around on the internet.
Some of them are pretty good, but if they were good, then why did it all end so badly? It ended badly because it’s not enough to write one. You have to live by it once it’s written. That’s where we were special. We as a collective people got it, or we use to, but now all thats lost.

No offense, but that is crazy, given what we have right now. There is no control of a Constitutional Convention. We could easily emerge from that with a Constitution that is the polar opposite of what we have.
These are fine, and necessary, but to be proposed as individual amendments, not calling for a Constitutional Convention.
Frankly, I think our nation is too far gone, anyway, but just for information purposes I would stress to you that a Constitutional Convention with the sort of lunatics we have infesting governments at all levels, it is just an awful idea.

DFCtomm on March 18, 2010 at 8:24 PM
It is, and it’s by design.
I wrote a comment about this a couple of days ago because the environment today is so much like that during my college days. It was awful. It truly was.
A few months ago I made another comment, and I was criticized for being something like a buzz killer. Can’t remember the exact terminology. I think it was you, BB. And you were right. Shortly after the 2004 presidential election I did a lot of research on BO. When the economic meltdown went into full swing I realized that the Republicans were not going to win. McCain couldn’t control the Dem Congress. Heck, Bush didn’t do very well. But having a Dem Congress with Pelosi and Reid in charge and BO as pres. was too much for me.
You were right. I have been worried out of my mind and quite depressed. No parties. No lamp shades on my head. ;)
The last year has been pretty much as I anticipated. No surprises. The health care farce should be no surprise to anyone.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0GmQwXMfW4
The entire country needs to see this video so they understand how Congresspeople think!
Rep. Perriello is listed as a probable YES vote on the health bill on Hannity.com
Rep. Perriello is a freshman Congressman who barely won his seat by 727 votes (50.08%)
It looks like there are several candidates lining up to run against him.
The next 2 days are the best opportunity for these candidates to get national name recognition and campaign contributions by pressuring Rep. Perriello to vote NO on health reform.
Every vote counts and the candidate who stops this bill will be a hero.
In the meantime, call Rep. Perriello’s office to remind him his voters are watching and he is vulnerable!

If Obama knowingly signs into law a bill that has not been passed by both Houses of Congress, then he is violating his oath to defend the Constitution of the United States, and should be removed from office. Claiming that the Senate bill passes the House when “deemed to pass” by another bill makes no logical sense. The Senate passes bill X. The House passes bill X+Y. The only time X=X+Y is when Y is zero, which is clearly not the case here.

He’s just playing the game. He is a flaming liberal trying to pass himself off as a moderate. If the Democrats need his vote, he will give it. The only reason he would vote no is because there are enough yes votes to pass it without him, He is a conservative district with some of the highest unemployment in the state. Or an amendment that requires Congress to follow the Constitution. Of course that would require the unwinding of Medicare and Social Security, and any other entitlements they floated over the years.

hey ted c & others from Perriello’s district:
1st: Perriello is a true believer & will vote YES if Nancy needs him. he actually may have voted NO because he has strong opposition in November, but Nancy told him she wouldn’t give him any $. the 5th District race is one of 2 races nationwide targeted by Organizing for America, the SEIU/college student volunteer arm of the DNC. This race is expected to cost upwards of $3 million.
that said, there are TEA party candidates who have already said they will run as 3d parties & one TEA party candidate said he doesn’t need the Republicans to win. So we have alot of foot-shooting going on here.
but we’ll get it together & get rid of Perriello. I apologize now for his vote, but promise that we will give ourselves & our country a Republican in November.

The problem is that Congress was supposed to be the instrument to constrain the spending of the executive branch, but has instead become the origin of spending.
What should really be happening is that the President should submit a budget request, and congress should sift through it, approving or denying pieces as they see fit, and only with a two-thirds majority should they originate any spending of their own. They are supposed to be guarding the purse strings, not dumping the purse out.
