Quotes of the day
posted at 10:30 pm on March 18, 2010 by Allahpundit
“Rounding up the votes for health care has also proven difficult. House Democratic Whip Jim Clyburn told McClatchy Newspapers that final consideration of the bill may not occur until Easter (April 4) or later. He is dealing with dozens of members who refuse to commit to a firm position in hopes their silence will force the leadership to pull the bill and move on to other issues. ‘Just say nothing,’ is how one Democratic staffer explained the strategy being taken by many members. ‘Maybe it will just go away, and we can avoid a tough vote this close to the election.’”
***
“There are, of course, very few votes to spare. Yet there are some. And even most Republican leaders concede that the mystery is not so much whether Democrats will reach the magic number of 216, but rather whose names will be included as yes votes in the final count…
“Another sign that Democrats are reducing the pressure among Democrats was the latest campaign from Organizing for America, the arm of the Democratic National Committee, which by Thursday was urging activists to turn their attention to persuading centrist Republicans to support the legislation. Some party leaders said they were seeking to avoid agitating Democrats, some of whose votes they still need.”
***
TAPPER: When you talked to these members of Congress, you told me what you tell them. What do you hear back from them? Do you hear back from venerable members who are worried this bill will cost them their jobs?
BIDEN: Well, I, yes. Some of them I say, they say, well, Joe, look, man, I mean, you know, you guys haven’t massaged this very well. And, you know, this thing has gone on so long, I don’t know. And my response is, hey, man, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I’m telling you, you know, pre-existing, they’re going to be covered. You know we’re going to control the insurance companies. You know people aren’t going to lose their health care with their employer like is being advertised. So you’ve got to if you really want to make sure that you get the benefit of what you’ve already done, vote for the bill.
***
“America will be in a constant health-care war if ObamaCare is enacted. Passage wouldn’t end the health-care debate. Rather, it would perpetuate ObamaCare as the dominant issue for decades to come, reshape politics, create an annual funding crisis in Congress, and generate a spate of angry lawsuits. Yet few in Washington seem aware of what lies ahead.
“We only have to look at Great Britain to get a glimpse of the future. The National Health Service—socialized medicine—was created in 1946 and touted as the envy of the world. It’s been a contentious issue ever since. Its cost and coverage are perennial subjects of debate. The press, especially England’s most popular newspaper, The Daily Mail, feasts on reports of long waiting periods, dirty hospitals, botched care and denied access to treatments…
“So the struggle would go on and on. If you think the fights over funding of Medicare and Medicaid in recent years have been unpleasant, wait until the funding battles over ObamaCare start.”
***
“How’s it been? Like a living hell.”

Hang in there Pelosi.
We can laugh when the Dems get their feedback and walking papers at the next elections. Remenber the budgets come from Congress to the Press. The GOP can choke the funding of Obamascare and nothing Obama can do.

Which is EXACTLY why Mitt Romney won’t be the GOP nominee. As the ONLY OTHER PERSON IN THE ENTIRE NATION WHO HAS A SOCIALIST HEALTHCARE SYSTEM NAMED FOR HIM … there is zero chance the man will be nominated by the GOP to face the Democratic nominee (and I don’t think it will be Obama).
Those of us out here who are opposed to Mittens and to ObamaCare can take some small margin of comfort in the fact that, if O’Care is passed – it’s really ALSO the death of Mitt Romney’s political career.

Obviously, since the whole thing is, in essence, a giant welfare program. Even a bunch of slower-witted supporters are going to eventually realize that they aren’t getting value for their tax dollars in terms of actual health care services and start to rethink their support.
Why in the world would I want to pay for someone else’s healthcare via a transfer payment administered by a unionized government workforce? If the guy down the block from me goes bankrupt because of health care costs, I don’t care. If the whole country goes bankrupt because of health care costs, I care.

I am not sure they have the votes at the moment. There are still a couple of things that will happen that may impact the outcome: final CBO numbers, challenges to the reconciliation portion, challenges to this “deem and pass” (which I think should be done asap, since obama plans on using it for everything in the near future – like illegal migration). And, most importantly everyone will have a chance to look at all the BS in the reconciliation – like the Student loan takeover, like reductions to Medicare, like the new an improved special deals.

If it passes, the real fighting will begin. The special interests will go into warp speed to be on top six years from now when benefits kick in.
And do you really think they are going to put all that revenue in a “lock box” somewhere for six years? No. They will spend it and spend it and spend it again.

I loved the way Landrieu said it, something like, “evidently Hawaii had some disaster …” [something like that].
This is exactly what we’ve seen ever since The Precedent came in. Any stupid thing that spills out of his mouth is immediately picked up by the Washington junta. It happened with every idiotic argument we’ve had to wade through, from the “need to provide competition to the private market” (WTF?) to the “things ont he ground in Afghanistan changed since the indonesian Imbecile requested a strategic review 6 months ago, so we are taking 6 months to analyze it carefully” to now this truly insane bit. I was kind of surprised that Greta didn’t press her on that, since the rest of Landrieu’s explanation was ridiculously retarded.
I like Greta, though. I think she’s been doing a great job.

My mother-in-law age 93 has a neighbor who is set to celebrate her 101 Birthday. At age 94 she was given open heart surgery and special shunts. Did I mention that she lives on her own? I guess under Obama care she would have been deemed to old for such surgery.Oh, my mother-in law also is self-sufficient. If this surgery was recommended for her I would fight tooth and nail to make sure she got it. Will we have that option under Obama care?

No apology necessary. Stomp those grapes and make ya some vino.
Seriously, I have been down that path. Years ago, I was more or less alone, far from home and family, downsized, lost my home, and went as far as selling my only transportation to be able to keep off of food stamps and sleeping under bridges…
Life takes some amazing twists and turns, and when one door closes often another door opens to an even better vista. I’m sure you’ve heard these platitudes before, but they are good ones.

As for you going back, there are tons of Californians heading that way. A great family from CA bought my forever home and are flooding it with happy memories (my old neighbors keep me updated).
BTW- like your name too. I spell it mine with a y though. :)

Saw this on another blog:
The time for action is NOW.
Nancy Pelosi is desperate to ram through the Homosexual Lobby payoffs she’s buried in the Obamacare bill.
This plethora of hidden pro-homosexual filth includes:
Homosexual “lifestyle” subsidies, which will grant $1,000+ in annual tax breaks to homosexual “couples,” encouraging their sinfulness on the taxpayer dime;
Traditional Marriage Penalties, crippling many families with over $10,000 per year in new taxes;
Explicit Sodomy Training Seminars financed by tens of millions of taxpayer dollars, directed at “educating” elementary school students in homosexual sex acts.
That’s why I am counting on you to call Representative David P. Roe at 202-225-6356 right away!
You see, Nancy Pelosi is starting to play really dirty.
She plans to ram this bill through using a “deem and pass” scheme that would make these anti-family provisions law without even being voted on!
And if you think that’s the worst of her sleazy tricks, think again.
Pro-life Democrat Congressman Bart Stupak recently revealed the REAL reason Nancy Pelosi has been fighting tooth-and-nail to include taxpayer-funded abortions in the Obamacare Bill.
It’s dollars and cents. She’s convinced she can shave a couple bucks off the bill’s price tag by aborting more babies.
According to Congressman Stupak, Nancy Pelosi is telling pro-life Democrats:
“If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and therefore it will cost us millions more.”
That is just how corrupt these pro-Obamacare politicians have become.
I need you to call 202-225-6356 right away and INSIST Representative David P. Roe resist Nancy Pelosi’s anti-family arm-twisting.
If she goes ahead her “deem and pass” scheme, Obamacare could be rammed down our throats before people even know what hit them. That’s why we must turn up the heat right now!
So please, call 202-225-6356 and tell Representative David P. Roe to oppose ALL of Nancy Pelosi’s trick plays to ram taxpayer-funded abortions and Homosexual Lobby payoffs into law.
We have no time to waste, the vote may come any day.
Please call Representative David P. Roe at 202-225-6356 right away.
Sincerely,
Eugene Delgaudio

“Mystery” from earlier “Report: US sending hundreds of bunker-buster bombs to staging area for Persian Gulf” thread solved?
Obama blocks delivery of bunker-busters to Israel, Embargoes Weapons for Jewish Defense
The United States has diverted a shipment of bunker-busters designated for Israel.
Officials said the U.S. military was ordered to divert a shipment of smart bunker-buster bombs from Israel to a military base in Diego Garcia.
In 2008, the United States approved an Israeli request for bunker-busters capable of destroying underground facilities, including Iranian nuclear weapons sites. Officials said delivery of the weapons was held up by the administration of President Barack Obama.
Since taking office, Obama has refused to approve any major Israeli requests for U.S. weapons platforms or advanced systems. Officials said this included proposed Israeli procurement of AH-64D Apache attack helicopters, refueling systems, advanced munitions and data on a stealth variant of the F-15E.
“All signs indicate that this will continue in 2010,” a congressional source familiar with the Israeli military requests said. “This is really an embargo, but nobody talks about it publicly.”

Even better than that, she bases the misunderstanding upon the fact that the federal government made some stupid mistake when calculating the state’s income. Ok. That makes me feel better – let’s give ‘em control over healthcare.

Love it. We all still cry over a “family member” we lost about 4 years ago. I go in to kiss my boys good night and find them all crammed in a twin bed with the lab in the middle. Dogs really can make a family whole!
I hear you on worrying about the kids. That is why I started fighting and voicing my opinion. I want my kids to know this is why our country is great and WE have to make sure we don’t let it fall apart. I find comfort in thinking that if I could wake up from my stupor, so can millions of Americans. And, because of this, ugly processes like Reconciliation and the Slaughter House Rule have been brought to light and the American people don’t like seeing our government resort to such tactics.
