Quotes of the day

posted at 10:30 pm on March 18, 2010 by Allahpundit

“Rounding up the votes for health care has also proven difficult. House Democratic Whip Jim Clyburn told McClatchy Newspapers that final consideration of the bill may not occur until Easter (April 4) or later. He is dealing with dozens of members who refuse to commit to a firm position in hopes their silence will force the leadership to pull the bill and move on to other issues. ‘Just say nothing,’ is how one Democratic staffer explained the strategy being taken by many members. ‘Maybe it will just go away, and we can avoid a tough vote this close to the election.’”

***
“There are, of course, very few votes to spare. Yet there are some. And even most Republican leaders concede that the mystery is not so much whether Democrats will reach the magic number of 216, but rather whose names will be included as yes votes in the final count…

“Another sign that Democrats are reducing the pressure among Democrats was the latest campaign from Organizing for America, the arm of the Democratic National Committee, which by Thursday was urging activists to turn their attention to persuading centrist Republicans to support the legislation. Some party leaders said they were seeking to avoid agitating Democrats, some of whose votes they still need.”

***
TAPPER: When you talked to these members of Congress, you told me what you tell them. What do you hear back from them? Do you hear back from venerable members who are worried this bill will cost them their jobs?

BIDEN: Well, I, yes. Some of them I say, they say, well, Joe, look, man, I mean, you know, you guys haven’t massaged this very well. And, you know, this thing has gone on so long, I don’t know. And my response is, hey, man, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I’m telling you, you know, pre-existing, they’re going to be covered. You know we’re going to control the insurance companies. You know people aren’t going to lose their health care with their employer like is being advertised. So you’ve got to if you really want to make sure that you get the benefit of what you’ve already done, vote for the bill.

***
“America will be in a constant health-care war if ObamaCare is enacted. Passage wouldn’t end the health-care debate. Rather, it would perpetuate ObamaCare as the dominant issue for decades to come, reshape politics, create an annual funding crisis in Congress, and generate a spate of angry lawsuits. Yet few in Washington seem aware of what lies ahead.

“We only have to look at Great Britain to get a glimpse of the future. The National Health Service—socialized medicine—was created in 1946 and touted as the envy of the world. It’s been a contentious issue ever since. Its cost and coverage are perennial subjects of debate. The press, especially England’s most popular newspaper, The Daily Mail, feasts on reports of long waiting periods, dirty hospitals, botched care and denied access to treatments…

“So the struggle would go on and on. If you think the fights over funding of Medicare and Medicaid in recent years have been unpleasant, wait until the funding battles over ObamaCare start.”

***
“How’s it been? Like a living hell.”

Code Red Moves Cardoza and Costa to “Yes” Votes on Gov’t Healthcare Takeover After Water Deal

“The U.S. Department of Interior announced yesterday that it is increasing water allocations for the Central Valley of California, a region that depends on these water allocations to support local agriculture and jobs. The region has recently been starved for water and as a result unemployment has soared. Not surprisingly, Cardoza and Costa had a hand in the announcement:”

“All signs indicate that this will continue in 2010,” a congressional source familiar with the Israeli military requests said. “This is really an embargo, but nobody talks about it publicly.”

MB4 on March 19, 2010 at 12:36 AM

No surprise, though I had expected the embargo to wait until after Israel had hit Iran. I guess that’ll just be when the full embargo goes on. If they withold these bunker busters from Israel, then they just force Israel to use cruder means, which will play into the subsequent worldwide condemnation and total isolation of Israel.

Whoa! Trying to catch up briefly, but need some serious shut eye…have just been newsless all day.

If it weren’t so tragic, it would be funny the way these dems keep extending this bill (rather ironic that it is on life support when the death panels are still in it, despite the protests to the contrary).

This bill is the efyen HYDRA! Cut off one head and three grow back. I used to think it was a vampire, but we’ve stuffed metaphoric garlic in its mouth, run virtual stakes through it’s heart, and buried it upside down in its native earth…(the legislative branch of gob’ment). Ergo: it’s not vampiric…it’s something even more evil.

Sandee: Hang in there girlfriend! Sounds like you have a lot of Hotairians in your corner, praying for you, me among them.
Gosh! I don’t mean to sound like a Bible thumper, but the worse things get, the less inclined I am to keep my faith to myself…prayer has truly saved my bacon on more than one occasion. Just put your faith in the Lord, and your fate in his hands, and mean it with all your heart, and you might be amazed! I’ll shut up…like I said, my faith has always been a very personal matter, and what others believe is their business.
Night all.

At the expense of the rest of the states, we have created a relatively booming economy in Louisiana, and the Landrieu parasite believes that Americans who have been robbed to provide Louisiana with their booming economy should be punished some more by financing more favorable healthcare for them even though the states that will be paying for this Louisiana windfall have higher unemployment and are making less wages.

Washington sharpens crisis with Israel, may give Palestinians military shield

“Israel is one of our closest allies and we and the Israeli people have a special bond that’s not going to go away,” said President Barack Obama to Fox News Wednesday, March 17, after denying any crisis in the relationship. debkafile’s Washington sources note that denial makes a lot of sense for the president because it lets him off the hook for dealing with it.
However, in Jerusalem, prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu called his inner cabinet into its second session on the crisis that same night.

… … …

A much-admired American military figure, CENTCOM chief, Gen. David Petraeus, was the next US official to put this linkage into words. In his briefing to a Senate panel, he said Wednesday, March 16: Clearly the tensions on these issues [with Israel] have enormous effect on the strategic context in which we operate in the Central Command’s area of responsibility.”

The general denied he had as yet formally asked for the Palestinian territories to be transferred to his command, but added: “In fact, staff members at various times have discussed asking for the Palestinian territories to be added to CENTCOM’s turf.”
debkafile’s military sources explain that, if approved, this step would be tantamount to providing the Palestinians with an American military umbrella against Israel.

Israel’s New Enemy: [Barack Obama's] America?

In the administration’s twisted thinking, whatever Israel does is unjustified so long as the Palestinian-Arab-Muslim side is unhappy. What part of annihilation does the State Department not understand? What State is blind to is that the “Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” as it is erroneously labeled, is part of a worldwide religious war against all things Jewish, Christian, secular, modern and Western.

Making demands of only one side before serious negotiations begin, especially on matters of Jerusalem, so-called “refugees” and borders, effectively pressures Israel into making concessions on all three, which would severely damage its prospects for continued existence.

How about first making these demands of the Palestinian-Arab-Muslim side: (1) A pledge of no more war with Israel, or terrorism; 2) a declaration by a powerful Islamic cleric that their God no longer requires them to kill people who don’t believe as they do; and 3) no more teaching in Palestinian textbooks and in their media that Jews created AIDS and descend from monkeys and pigs?

After those three demands are met, the State Department can start making demands of Israel. Not before. Anything less puts America on the wrong side, along with Israel’s (and America’s) enemies. Or hasn’t State noticed that we share the same enemies?

I am a bit skeptical myself.

It makes no sense, but then again that hasn’t stopped this administration in the past. Given the recent bluster from State toward Iran, though, it just doesn’t compute.

Pook-ee-ston is nobody’s friend; they are behind most of the mischief in that region. I understand that their government has to walk a tightrope, but the ISI is making double-dealing look like Candyland.

hillbillyjim on March 19, 2010 at 4:28 AM

I should have added:

I doubt seriously that Pakistan will go to war with India; Paki’s got some nukes, but India does as well, and India has a vastly stronger economic foundation to sustain a conflict over time.

I think the trouble-makers in Paki will have to be content for now to continue their two multi-faced shell game in regards to Afghanistan, the Taliban, and the US.

Until Pakistan gets serious about closing down for good the madrassas indoctrinating recruits into fundamentalist Wahhabi Islam, and taking the fight to the radical elements/Taliban in Waziristan, they cannot be trusted and should be treated as a pariah state.

There are other options besides counting on the Paki military to control their nukes, and they deserve due consideration.

If we don’t address this core issue, the Afghanistan issues will never be resolved to our satisfaction.

I agree, we cannot forget God. And we cannot turn to Him as an after thought. If there was ever a time to pray and get on our faces it is now. Don’t just “say a prayer” but pray, pour yourself out before God, cry out for deliverance. For our nation and for this generation. God have mercy.

Joel 2:12-13, “Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.”

Romans 8:38-39, “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Jer. 18:7-8 “If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it, and if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from it’s evil, I will repent of the evil I intended to do to it.”

If this following quote was true then, is it any less true today? Do you think you are actually smarter than Ben Franklin?

Benjamin Franklin: | Portrait of Ben Franklin
“ God governs in the affairs of man. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel”

“Stand your ground. Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.”- Captain John Parker, Lexington Green, April 1775

Prayers to God are appropriate but make no mistake. If the Democrats pass this evil piece of legislation, then it means political warfare. We cannot ask God to fight our political battles and it is up to us to restore this nation by driving the criminal class out of Dc- BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

If this “thing” is enacted, I am refusing to obey. It was conceived unconstitutionally and is unconstitutional in its make-up. If enough of the American people do what I do then it will die. That probably goes for the IRS as well.

STARVE THE GOVERNMENT. SAVE THE REPUBLIC.

J.J. Sefton on March 19, 2010 at 7:26 AM

I totally agree. I know it’s easy to just say anything in a forum like this, but what choice do we have? Do we wait until they are stronger?
I am not going to submit either. They are nothing but a bunch of thieves and dictators! Resist now while we are stronger or have the tubes and plug pulled, have our water and food taken from us later while we lay in the government hospital.

We have to keep demonstrating. Forget about saving for the future. Pull your savings out now and put it into this effort. Use your vacation time to plan and protest! Demonstrate, not just at the capital but where they live! They don’t leave us alone in our homes! Why should we leave them alone in theirs?
I’m talking peaceful demonstrations here, but we have to keep doing more.

Here is the underlining doctrine :
He who controls Kaaba, controls islam.
Sauds want to keep their hold over the kaaba, but don’t have the forces to defend it. It will have to be the US forces who will have to die to protect Mecca , from Iran.
Iran and Pakistan want to carry on un-interrupted their killings of Jews and Hindus and US can help that with a strong muscle in DG . When we leave Afghanistan, there will be so many arms and ammunition and trained muzzies with a guaranteed moneyflow that that region will explode every minute .

It would be a beautiful thing to have the Rose Garden signing ceremony disrupted by a flash mob surrounding the White House from all sides in protest of what the criminal class was doing within the confines of the compound.*

*I use the word compound because that seems more appropriate for a nation lead by a socialist dictator and junta instead of a representative democracy.

Here is praying that Obamacare destroys the state of Maine first if Obamacare is rammed down our throats. I pray that the people of Maine hold Snowe and Collins accountable next election.

You have every right to be angry at Jug-eared Jesus, but did you have to drag the kids into it? That’s as despicable as the cowardly actions of the One you are addressing.

hillbillyjim on March 19, 2010 at 6:49 AM

Do you remember the day Obama was asked if he would use Obamacare or private healthcare? He would use the best healthcare system for his family? Yeah….Obamacare is going to be so great that he’s not sure his family will use it.

Obamacare forced on thee, but healthcare choices for me.

The libtards in Congress say that 70 Americans die EVERY DAY in America due to lack of HC coverage…….let’s see………zero’s been in office quibbling over this “reform” for about 425 days, plus 4 years b-4 it kicks in……that is 1885 days X 70 dead peeps per day = 131,950 dead Americans.

How do these wretched libs sleep at night (I know, I know, they have no conscience). But still, almost 132K dead Americans, by their own calculations, is either a brilliant culling method to save funds or a gross disregard for the lives of our poor and our sick. I could write my own sob story – I am sobbing right now!!//

The Maine hags know their peeps too well, just like Pelosi and Hussain. Nothing will happen to them. That is if we have elections at all. In any case, amnesty will take care of everything .

Hey, America, will your cancer wait 4 years?

bloggless on March 19, 2010 at 8:12 AM

The injustices suffered by the founders of this country pale in comparison to those being foisted upon us today.

And if Obama and his minions have their way, this is only the beginning.

justltl on March 19, 2010 at 8:17 AM

This is March 19th.
All of the fruits of our labors for the year thus far are still going to fund this corruption, correct?

The snake oil salesmen selling the idea that the government needs to seize one sixth of the economy so that more people are covered by health insurance ignore the most important point. Having health coverage is not the same thing as receiving healthcare. All the coverage doesn’t work if the Obama DMV-like health clinics cannot accomodate all those covered individuals.

No wonder some states have already approved doctor assisted suicide. When this monster passes and people have no doctor because he quit and you have to watch a loved one wait and wait for service that doesn’t come in time, people are going to become frustrated and angry. Politicians should look forward past this vote to see the misery they will be creating.

Kissmygrits on March 19, 2010 at 8:53 AM

Do all the peeps jumping up and down about the sorrowful plight of those who are dying for lack of insurance due to “pre-existing conditions” realize that those peeps won’t be covered until 2014, according to the new rec rules? If the condition is so life-threatening, and they’re dying due to lack of coverage, three+ years is kind of a long time.Unless it’s all BS, like that lady at the Cleveland Clinic…Nichevo on March 19, 2010 at 5:26 AM

The deaths of those people are a small price to pay for a CBO score that looks good, which you can only get if you show 10 years of tax revenues and 6 years of expenses.

A living hell is being out of a job during the Barack Obama depression.

Which Democrats are going to find out about, after they get thrown out of office by enraged voters in November.

NoDonkey on March 19, 2010 at 8:56 AM

Perhaps the only glimmer of hope if this travesty passes is that the GOP, its 2012 nominee and the voters have 4 years to kill this ( ala CatCare) and refund the confiscated taxes back to the people.
If not, then the end of this country as we remember it, will have been approved by lazy, feckless voters and that will be that.
November 2010 will be either the beginning or the end, of taking back our country.

Because the traitor-in-chief and the Empress of the Ample Behind are poor excuses for human beings is no reason to drag their children into it. They didn’t ask to be the spawn of these people; it just happened that way.

Big-butt and Jug-ears are legitimate targets for our verbal grenades — they fired the first rounds. The children are not responsible for their parents’ malfeasance.

I can fight this fight without sinking to their level, thank you.

No hard feelings — I understand the impulse, but I reject it.
