Disgrace: House approves Slaughter strategy, 222-203

posted at 4:40 pm on March 18, 2010 by Allahpundit

A travesty on top of a travesty. The boss emeritus has a list of the 28 Democrats who voted with the GOP, but that’s less interesting than Geraghty’s roll of wavering Dems who voted with Pelosi. A leading indicator that they’re planning to vote yes on the bill? Or a cheap ‘n easy way of appeasing The One for now in anticipation of a devastating no vote on Sunday? You make the call!

• Jason Altmire, Pennsylvania.
• John Barrow, Georgia.
• John Boccieri, Ohio.
• Allen Boyd, Florida.
• Leonard Boswell, Iowa.
• Joe Donnelly, Indiana.
• Brad Ellsworth, Indiana.
• Baron Hill, Indiana.
• Marcy Kaptur, Ohio.
• Dan Maffei, New York.
• Jim Marshall, Georgia.
• Jim Matheson, Utah.
• Michael McMahon, New York.
• Betsy Markey, Colorado.
• Patrick Murphy, Pennsylvania.
• Earl Pomeroy, North Dakota.
• Nick Rahall, West Virginia.
• Joe Sestak, Pennsylvania.
• Carol Shea Porter, New Hampshire.
• Ike Skelton, Missouri.
• Zach Space, Ohio.
• John Spratt, South Carolina.
• Charlie Wilson, Ohio.

Altmire dumped on the Slaughter strategy before voting for it. So did Stephen Lynch — who, interestingly, said he was a no on the bill itself just a few hours ago. My hunch is that they both want to vote no on O-Care but don’t want to be blamed for tying Pelosi’s hands in case she’s able to get to 216 by using Slaughter, so they’re throwing the leadership a bone on this vote. That’s the optimistic read. The pessimistic read is that Pelosi’s already gotten to 216 so they made a deal with her by which she agreed to cut them loose and let them vote their conscience on Sunday in return for playing ball today. Numerically, it almost has to be the case that a few Dems who voted for this will vote no on the final bill since there probably won’t be more than 216 or 217 for the latter. (Ike Skelton, who voted yes today, is a firm no on O-Care itself as far as I know.) The question is whether they have 222 who are willing to vote for it, with Pelosi left to decide which lucky five or six will be allowed to vote no on Sunday in the interests of self-preservation. Gulp.

But look. If you think this thing is headed for passage, which seems increasingly likely, your last best hope to kill it is through a court challenge. The filthier the process, the better the odds that SCOTUS will torpedo it down the line. I’m not so naive as to think that’s what Altmire and Skelton had in mind when they voted yes, but that may well be the effect. Three cheers for Slaughter!

Any ideas?

Well, since the democrat platform is exactly the same as the Communist Party USA platform, and the fact that they’ve been implementing FDR’s “Second Bill of Rights” over the decades which is taken from the Soviet Constitution … I’d say Communists would be appropriate.

If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is then no recourse left but in the exertion of that original right of self-defense.

What I don’t get is why someone would want to abandon his/her personal liberty, true freedom of choice. It’s not like Six is talking to a bunch of rich corporate fat-cats here. We’re just regular people.

Why, I wonder, her hate for people who are no more wealthy than her. I just don’t grasp that level of anger, against people who have done her no true harm.

If she thinks I’m a ‘bad guy’, I demand to know how and where.

Mar 18 2010

Dec 7th 1941
==========================
Today March 18,2010

a date which will live in infamy – the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Liberal Party.

The DNC, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.

As Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.

Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

I believe I interpret the will of the Tea Patriots and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces – with the unbounded determination of our people – we will gain the inevitable triumph – so help us God.

I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by the DNC on Sunday, December seventh, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Democrat Party.

-(snark).

A Brief would have to be prepared, and a suit filed the Supreme Court would have to agree to adjudicate it before other suits already on the docket.

I don’t know how does one file with the Supreme Court for an injunction, while a suit was being prepared to be filed…is that possible between now and Sunday?

Dr Evil on March 18, 2010 at 5:23 PM

no idea. In 2000, on December 8th, the Florida Supreme COurt order state wide recount, next day December 9th, the US Supreme court stayed the Florida recount. Do not know the mechanics. I hope the Republicans were not just sitting on their hands watching this travesty.

She claims to be attending law school. By her arguments, that’s really a lie. Or she’s going to a really bad school.

But, taking her at her word, law school isn’t cheap. So, with all that, I wonder her hatred for all that liberty she’s assaulting.

Nothing seems to have congruence with her. Someone like her wouldn’t fit among the Hippies I recall from the 60s.

I just don’t understand mindless, undirected hate like Six constantly shows.

How dreadful are the curses which the democrat congress lays on its votaries! Besides it’s fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a congress as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this narcissistic hatred of the Constitution. The effects are apparent in many ways. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of legislating and insecurity of law exist wherever the congressional members of this party rule. The final extinction of tyranny will be delayed until the democrat party has ceased to be a great power among men.

Liberals, though, keep their anger. I don’t get that. Sure, egotism is a factor. But there’s more. There’s something seriously wrong with liberals, to hold their kind of fury.

I’m not so naive as to think that’s what Altmire and Skelton had in mind when they voted yes, but that may well be the effect. Three cheers for Slaughter!

Bush v. Gore doomed the Bush Presidency.

I fear what a Supreme Court desicion will do.

Why are Democrats so intent on gaming the system? Why can’t they just do things the honest up front way?

Why couldn’t there be a State wide recount in Florida in 2000? That would have been fair and no Supreme Court would have been involved. But no they had to be tricky with the rules!

Now this. What is going to be the unforeseeable consequence of having to involve the courts in this legislation?

Please Dems don’t do this thing!

After drinking a potion of his own and Saul Alinsky’s creation, Barack is transformed into the cruel, remorseless, evil Herr Hussein, representing the hidden side of Obama’s dual nature brought to the fore. Barack has many friends and has a pleasing personality, but as Herr Hussein he becomes more and more dictatorial, disregards all rules, even encourages violence and becomes ever more fascist like as time goes by as Herr Hussein grows in dominance. After taking this potion repetitively, he no longer needs to rely upon it to unleash his inner fascist demons.

The Strange Case of Professor Obama and Herr Hussein is a real life drama playing out in the aftermath of the Presidential election of 2008. It is about the dilemma of the American citizen who sees strange dissonances between the new found Messiah, Professor Obama, and the ever more emerging misanthropic, pyromaniac (reference note #1) Herr Hussein. It is a vivid portrayal of a split personality, split in the sense that within the same person there is, or was, both an apparently good and an ever more emerging evil personality each being quite distinct from the other. In mainstream culture the very phrase “Obama and Hussien” will come to mean a person who’s words are vastly different in moral character from his actions.

Reference note #1: Such individuals who lack ulterior motive have traditionally been referred to in layman’s terms simply as a variation of a pyromaniac. Most such maniacs lack conscious motivation although they are fully aware of the acts they are failing to stop or they themselves are committing. Typically they will feel intense pleasure, gratification, or relief when causing destruction or when witnessing or participating in the aftermath. Motivation is also classified as pathological and non-pathological. Some research suggests that feeling such joy at horrific situation is pathological. Other research suggests that some motivation for this comes from rational thought. Taking joy in horrific situations for envisioned gains in political power and/or the concealment of the imposition of devious plans are examples of supposed rational decision making.

A leading indicator that they’re planning to vote yes on the bill?

Not merely a leading indicator. They are doing this precisely for the purpose of being able to vote for a more palatable bill. They want to say that they voted for a fun happy magical house bill that took away all the senate kick-backs, even though that part could easily die in the senate, so that all they are really voting for is the original senate bill.

(Which isn’t to say the house bill won’t also be filled with shady deals. But maybe those will be better hidden. And with all the private conversations going on now, I suspect there are even worse forms of bribery not written into the bill itself.)

Terrye:

Are you aware of the memo written in December by Sen Judd Gregg outlining the plethora of parliamenatary manuevers which could have been used by the GOP Senate in order to bottle the bill up UNTIL SPRING??? That would be now.

Are you aware that Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell quashed the memo, let alone would not “allow” (are there any independent men in the senate?) any other senator to deploy these procedures?

And are you aware that Mitch McConnell has said repeatedly, although not recently, that passage of obamacare would be really good for gaining republican seats in the midterm???!!!

Please don’t try the obama straw-man argument with me about a circular firing sqaud. Credit and blame are due with the people who deserve the same. If you think that this bill from hell got out of the Senate and now to within a whisker of passage because we had patriotic, Constitutional conservatives in the Senate GOP, dream on.

They talk a good game, but I’m watching the action, and as I said before, when the action took place and it was going to get tough, they were no where to be found. And tough is a relative term. Did anyone ask them to shed even one drop of blood?

And even if this passes, they will be exempt. How nice. If they were really with us they would shut down ALL congressional business until the left gives in. And I would be right there covering their backside if they did it.

These “conservative” GOP senators were sent to D.C. because they promised to be the sentinals, to watch the gates and keep out the enemy. Because they have deserted their post and shirked their duties, the animals on the left will be attempting to force us all to pay for abortion and euthansia and coming for our jobs, what little money we may have, and our property if we don’t comply. Our lives, if we have a conscience, will be a living hell thanks to them. If we won’t sell our souls to these worse-than-rapists and engage in their murder-spree, we will lose everything.
What do you think we are dealing with that nice conservative words from those who were supposed to defend us will mean when you are homeless in the winter????

It was they, not I, who had the power to stop this thing in the Senate. If I had the power they had, I would not have tucked and run, even if I had to stand alone. It would have been an honor.

And to say the the rabid left is to be blamed is to blame a dog for smelling another dog’s rear. It’s what they do. It was the “Conservatives” that we sent to congress that promised to keep the dogs off of us. It was what they didn’t do.

It’s like saying … “I play a Telecaster – not a guitar.”

We live in a damn democracy here. It’s a Republican Democracy – but a democracy nonetheless.

Unfortunately – your opinion doesn’t count on this. And … more importantly – the court’s opinion isn’t going to count either. What’s going to count is the “smell test” the American people are going to put this fiasco – and they will be the final say. I submit they will find this action distasteful and un-American – and completely not in the spirit of the Constitution of the United States.

Just because you CAN do something – doesn’t mean you should.

The Democrats are going to learn this in November. This will make the anger FIRE HOT – bordering on revolution in the streets. But the people are going to be calm … because November is only a few months away – they will vent their anger in the voting booths.

Obama may have won a devastatingly Pyrrhic victory with O’Care. It’s a victory the Democrats won’t survive.

Clearly this “law” would be illegitimate and of no moral force and effect so it should be held in the contempt it would deserve. Any ideas for counter-implementation? My people have been in America from before the Revolutionary War. I never thought I’d be called to resistance. But here it is.

Mason on March 18, 2010 at 7:56 PM

PappyD61 on March 18, 2010 at 7:44 PM

Buck up Pappy! If he wins this thing it’ll be a Pyrrhic Victory.

If he gets the votes on this – man, it’s gonna be a squeaker and if you look at Democratic trends for supporting Obama’s agenda bills – the trend is negative. He will not have the octane to push anything else before November – and after November – he won’t have a motor in his car any more. Worst case – the outgoing Democrats spit on the American public one last time during a lame duck session in December – but I don’t see it really happening. They’ll be fighting each other openly by that point.

Hate to say this – but if O’Care passes with these toxic tactics – it’s even better news for our side in November. The Democrats actually had a chance to patch things up with Americans and work to change public opinion of their party.

Passing ObamaCare using dueling dubious legislative “Houdini” illusions kills every chance they had of recovery.

We’re talking anger at fever pitch. If they even tried anything else – it’d be open rebellion in the streets.

HondaV65 on March 18, 2010 at 7:57 PM

They are baiting us. This will not stop no matter what it costs at the ballot box and in the streets. Ask yourself what they stand to gain by pissing off the majority of the electorate. They have an end game and are willing to do what it takes to win.

It might make you feel better to eat your own and form the old circular firing squad but the people you should be yelling at are the ones with the Ds behind their names.

The ones who agree Congress has to get behind “reform”, are not my own.

The ones who propose subsidies instead of mandates, are not my own.

The ones who beg for a bipartisan process for mutual negotiations, are not my own.

The ones who need me to accept, years out, that a Republican majority isn’t going to repeal this, are not my own.

It is meaningless to declare the Democrats are horrible reckless morons, but their handiwork is untouchable. The threat here is not personal– if Obama and Pelosi and Reid died in the same plane crash, and were replaced by like-minded socialists, we’d still be here. The threat is not partisan– if Republicans win the majority, and do nothing to repeal or overturn entitlements, we’ll still be here.

The threat is ideological. It can only be resolved with ideological steadfastness and communication and persuasion.
We need more salesmen and fewer marketers. We need people who are looking to sell America on an agenda rather than anticipate policy trends.

I know you wouldn’t enact my agenda if all Democrats resigned and moved to Cuba–if you had both House and Senate and the Presidency and the White House.

That makes you a political opponent.

No, there was another motion today to table a GOP demand for an up or down vote, but the roll call was not posted earlier. That was HR Res 1194 and it was approved, 232-181. Voting No were 171 Republicans and 10 Democrats. The other 7 GOP members didn’t vote.
