Open thread: Obama to appear on Fox News

posted at 3:35 pm on March 17, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Is it Barack Obama finally fulfilling his campaign pledge to reach across the aisle?  Or is it a desperation attempt to alleviate the pressure from the Right on ObamaCare?  After siccing his media handlers on Fox last year in an ill-advised attempt to isolate the most popular of the cable news networks, President Obama has suddenly deigned to appear on the channel that a few months ago was described as nothing more than a propaganda outlet for his opposition.  Fox goes a little meta with an interview with the interviewer, Bret Baier, to promote it:

Fox News’ Bret Baier has a big day ahead of him, to put it mildly. The Special Report host has an exclusive one-on-one sit down with President Obama Wednesday.

In the world of journalism, an interview with the president is like the Super Bowl of all sit-downs. Or, in the spirit of the NCAA tournament and March Madness, we should say it’s considered the biggest dance there is to dance.

That got us thinking…just how does a network news anchor prepare for such a tremendous opportunity?

Fox and Bret Baier are taking questions by e-mail at special@foxnews.com.  What questions would you want Baier to ask, and what questions do you think Obama would answer?  My prediction: Baier asks tough but fair questions, and Obama offers platitudes as answers.  I doubt this moves the needle for Obama — but it will make it harder for the White House to try another war on Fox later in this election cycle, if they didn’t learn their lesson the first time.

Update: The interview is apparently already in the can, so don’t bother to send in any more questions.  Rumor has it that the dialogue was “confrontational.”

Did anyone else hear Obama that the bill will be posted online “many days” in advance of the vote.

WTF? Pelosi says she wants to vote on Saturday. It’s Wednesday, and we have nothing. CBO hasn’t even chimed in–using the bogus assumptions of the Dems.

Oh, Baier should have asked about the 10 years of taxes and 6 years of benefits NONSENSE.

Great job Bret! You kept pressing when Obama was dodging. Toughest interview Obama has ever had. I’m guessing it’s the last time we’ll see Obama on Fox.

He wouldn’t have come on FOX if he had a deal… or would he?

Hunt035 on March 17, 2010 at 6:22 PM

Yes, he would come on Fox. He used his time to tell us all how much we are going to like it once we get it and that the process won’t matter much in the long run.

Zero was mad because he had to call Fox for an interview, he thought Brett was going to sit and just listen to him ramble and not ask questions. He’s mad that Brett had the nerve to question him.

I give Bret a B/B-

Hume lowers the boom by highlighting the weasley answer on double-counting.

Awesome.

BuckeyeSam on March 17, 2010 at 6:26 PM

When Obama wouldn’t answer a question sent in from the American people, and wanted to blather on with his talking points anecdotes, Brett should have just asked him if he would answer a question or two from the American people…

Otherwise, thank the bozo and cut it off there if he won’t.

obama has overseen the destruction of billions of dollars and generations of family owned California orchards and farms without even blinking an eye. This breadbasket fed the USA and the world, not to mention was the pride of many hardworking Americans.

berri is wreaking destruction at pace and on a scale that is truly “unprecendented.” We have no help with the spineless GOP, who let obamacare get out of the senate and into the house by not blocking it as they could have, which would have resulted in the bill being held up in the senate TO THIS VERY DAY if there was even one man among them.

IMHO, our only help is in promising the Lord that we will protect the unborn, (isn’t it a sign from Him that He wants us to wake up after 37 years of abortion, that the bill comes down to the little ones?) and remove from office all who kill them and in their immoral wake violate us with every other destruction they can, such as fisting pervert Kevin Jennings indoctrinating millions of children and the politically induced California drought – destroying thousands of livelihoods over a fish.

A prayer from St. Patrick, in honor of the day, prayed with the hope of driving the demons from our land as Patrick drove them from Ireland so many years ago.

ST. PATRICK’S BREASTPLATE

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness
Of the Creator of Creation.

I arise today
Through the strength of Christ’s birth with his baptism,
Through the strength of his crucifixion with his burial,
Through the strength of his resurrection with his ascension,
Through the strength of his descent for the judgement of Doom.

I arise today
Through the strength of the love of Cherubim,
In obedience of angels,
In the service of archangels,
In hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In prayers of patriarchs,
In prediction of prophets,
In preaching of apostles,
In faith of confessors,
In innocence of holy virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.

I arise today
Through the strength of heaven:
Light of sun,
Radiance of moon,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of wind,
Depth of sea,
Stability of earth,
Firmness of rock.

I arise today
Through God’s strength to pilot me:
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s shield to protect me.
God’s host to save me
From snares of devils,
From temptations of vices,
From everyone who shall wish me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone and in multitude.

I summon today all these powers between me and those evils,
Against every cruel merciless power that may oppose my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of witches and smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man’s body and soul.
Christ to shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
so that there may come to me abundance of reward.

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness,
Of the Creator of Creation

They forced a shutoff of the water to one of the highest producing fruit/veggie/grain regions in the world. Fresno, CA (in the heart of the effected area) has some of the nation’s highest unemployment +45%) and also the nation’s highest suicide rates.

All of it the result of a federal judge shutting down water because of a common fish that someone claimed was an endangered species.

It would be extremely hard for a politician in California to turn down a deal that gets the feds to back off of the water shut off.

JadeNYU on March 17, 2010 at 7:26 PM

And you know what the real hell of it is? I’m sure that immediately after Pelosi, Obama and Co. bought the votes of these two Dems, they immediately got on the phone with their greenpi$$er friends and told them, “Just wait until we have the health care vote before you file the lawsuit asking for the injunction to keep the water turned off, and we’ll make sure it gets to the right judge, okay?”

End result – these two just sold their souls and got nothing in return, and what’s more, they probably knew going in that would end up getting nothing in return.

But at least they’ll be able to go to their voters and say, “Hey, we got the water turned back on but the judge said no, and we have to respect the rule of law. Now vote for me in November and I’ll continue to fight for your water rights!”

But somehow, despite all of their “fighting,” the water will never get turned on again, and if history is a guide, they’ll have long careers in Congress by promising to keep up the fight and yet never winning.

Funny how that works, isn’t it?
