Obama on Slaughter strategy: “I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about what the … rules are”; Update: “Combative” video added

posted at 5:18 pm on March 17, 2010 by Allahpundit

Don’t worry, he only means procedural rules. Like, say, the filibuster. Which he spent quite a bit of time worrying about when he was part of the minority in the Senate, oddly enough.

That quote’ll look awfully sweet on a 2012 campaign button.

“I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about what the procedural rules are in the House or Senate,” Obama said. “What I can tell you is that the vote that’s taken in the House will be a vote for health care reform. And if people vote yes, whatever form that takes, that is going to be a vote for health care reform. And I don’t think we should pretend otherwise. And if they don’t, if they vote against it, then they’re going to be voting against health care reform and they’re going to be voting in favor of the status quo.

“So Washington gets very concerned with these procedures in Congress, whether Republicans are in charge or Democrats are in charge,” he said.

By “very concerned,” I presume he means that Republicans will sue his ass if he tries this. Which they will: Jon Kyl told Hugh Hewitt that there’ll be lawsuits aimed at both the process and substance (read: the individual mandate) of the bill, and Virginia’s attorney general went so far as to send Pelosi a letter all but threatening a Supreme Court challenge if she goes ahead with the Slaughter strategy. In fact, Mark Levin’s legal foundation has already drafted the papers. All they’re waiting for is Pelosi to pull the trigger — which, as I’ve said all along, I suspect she won’t do. Too many risks, too few benefits. For what little it’s worth, a Freeper claims to have contacted John Barrow’s office this afternoon to complain about the Slaughter plan and been told that it was dead as of just 15 minutes before. Something to keep an eye on if you’re watching the wires.

Oh, forgot to mention: The Obama quote comes from The One’s trip this afternoon back to “the scene of the crime,” the video of which we’ll have later. Don’t worry about this being a spoiler; the tension between him and Bret Baier during the interview should make it worth watching regardless.

Update: Via Radio Vice Online, here’s the clip from this afternoon’s Shep. The One does not look pleased.

Only a complete idiot would be fooled by this evil bastard in this interview. BTW, one might say that Bret was being disrespectful of the office by repeatedly interrupting… but the problem is, Obama clearly had no intention of answering a single question. He came to respond to each question with a prepared speech. “It will be a vote for healtchare or the status quo”. Okay, we heard you the first time… now answer the f-ing question. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen someone be more evasive in an interview.

My only criticism of Bret would be that he didn’t recite a list of Obama’s social justice Marxist quotes, especially all of his promises of universal health care, and having universal health care by 2012 as a stepping stone, like Canada had, to single payer.

RightWinged on March 17, 2010 at 6:34 PM

Yes, but you’re also the one who refuses to admit that Obama and House/Senate Democrats are deliberately destroying the economy and country along with it… er, “fundamentally transforming”.

“Too few benefits”? When your ultimate goal, even above reelection, is taking us past the point of no return, I suspect these people see a lot of “benefits” in taking this radical action. Normally you’d be right, because re-election is generally the most important thing (which as we know is the argument for term limits)… But these people are radicals and it’s only a secret to you if you’re intellectually dishonest or borderline retarded. They are on the verge of achieving something huge (destroying our entire system.. not just health care), and this is the closest they’ve ever been and will probably ever be. Do you think they’re going to let this slip through their dirty little fingers?

A sampling of Julie’s face-reading analysis skillz:

Nothing To Fear, But Obama Himself

Obama is a man with a mission. He is passionate and driven when it comes to reaching his own goals on his personal side (left side). Unfortunately, he will not reocgnize other points of view (face shape on right side). He is extremely sensitive (eyes, shape of chin) and will not tolerate opposition. I am concerned about his imbalance. I have never seen a symmetrical face, there are always differences between the right and left sides, but his face differences are drastic and alarming. He is out of balance, and he feels inferior on his right side (the side he ignores). Psychologists know that when a person is not balanced and comfortable with who they are, they will act out of fear trying to overcompensate. Obama is doing that now – forcing his will on others, strong arming his opposition and turning a deaf ear to the will of the American people. He will never back down because once he set his course, it is about winning at all costs, no matter what the cost.

Healthcare will not be the last of Obama’s fear based decisions. His foundation is shaky and crumbling. He makes his decisions based on fear and anger. The anger is a result of his past and now that he is in the ultimate position of power, he will do whatever it takes to get more power. There will never enough for him. I’m worried. We have nothing to fear but Obama himself because he makes his decisions on what is best for him, not the American public. If there was a position for President of the World, he would not stop until he got there. I wouldn’t put it past him to create that position. His weakness-his inability to embrace and recognize help and support from others, will be his ultimate downfall. When he falls, he will come crashing down. The mark on the left side of his nose says it will happen soon.

Rae on March 17, 2010 at 7:10 PM

Allah is right about the Slaughter strategy – Pelosi won’t use it.

It’s only valuable if she can pass it and then sit on it until the Senate makes the “fixes” via reconciliation. However, it’s already been decided that the bill must be signed by Obama before it can be reconciled – and if it’s signed by Obama – then it’s NOT going to get reconciled.

So any vote for any “deem and pass” … or the actual bill – is still a vote for the Senate bill. And further – the demon pass method puts the Democrats square in the middle of what I think is a Constitutional Crisis.

She won’t do that.

This will be a straight up or down vote on the Senate bill. There may be a wish list of fixes … but those will be ignored by the Senate.

HondaV65 on March 17, 2010 at 7:33 PM

One of the very few things the Constitution is specific about, how a bill becomes law, it’s quite clear. The fact that our two-bit tin pot wanna be calls that a procedural spat is interesting. When in fact this ‘deem passed’ sounds a whole lot like tyranny and decrees to me.

Dr Carlo — that’s a great find.

When ObaMao was a senator in the Illinois State Assembly and when he was (briefly) a U.S. senator, he said repeatedly that the legislative process is “too slow” in effecting the kinds of changes that he wanted. He sees the presidency as a means to supersede those legislative limitations. For some reason, he thinks that the system of separate powers and checks and balances is a flaw. Note how many Executive Orders he has issued so far. He thinks that governing is a matter of fiat.

That interview was truly an embarrassment to this country. Never seen anything like it. Times just keep getting more bizarre.

fullogas on March 17, 2010 at 7:39 PM

Obama looks like a skinny little worm sitting next to Bret Baier.
Obama was very combative and argumentative during all of the debates, yet the Liberal media allowed him to get away with that kind of behavior.

OxyCon on March 17, 2010 at 7:41 PM

Bret left The Precedent a bloody pulp.

neurosculptor on March 17, 2010 at 6:27 PM

I cannot bring myself to see or hear berri’s voice, but I would really appreciate your take (a small summary for those of us with berri-intolerance) as to just how bloody a pulp Bret left.

ObaMao and the Dems are deluded if they think that American citizens don’t care how laws are passed, especially one that affects such a huge portion of the economy, that threatens their liberty in their relationship with health-care providers, and that will bankrupt the nation.

This talking point has gone beyond the ridiculous. Americans are more informed about the ins and outs of details in the bills so far provided than ObaMao is himself.

That interview clip also suggests that if that bill passes in the House, ObaMao will consider it the law, which he intends to sign.

He may not like it if the bill does not become law, but he and his “progressive” caucus had better understand that Americans reject this imposition against their will. Congress can go back to the drawing board, determine specifically which issues/problems need to be addressed, and tackle each area as a discrete piece of legislation.

Isn’t it ironic BO had to go on Fox to save his Presidency. If this beast doesn’t pass, we have 3 years of a toxic lame duck in the WH.

When BO said voting yes is reform, no for status quo, I was leaning in hoping BB would ask what if some vote present?

booter on March 17, 2010 at 7:47 PM

That was fantastic! Kudos to Brett Baier – my impression of him just zoomed up the scale.

Pay attention MSM, this is what “journalism” is supposed to look like!

bofh on March 17, 2010 at 7:48 PM

Notice how he doesn’t spend much time worrying about the rules, but “Washington” does. He’s saying he’s not part of “Washington”. Sheesh

birdman on March 17, 2010 at 5:25 PM

ObaMao does not think of himself as part of the national seat of government in Washington. He is accustomed to the ignoring of rules via the Dem machine in Illinois and in Chicago.

onlineanalyst on March 17, 2010 at 7:51 PM

He didn’t bother to learn rules as a Senator. He got as far as how to vote present, and good places to hide, like the cloak room. Other than that….he’s clueless.

After watching what was the latest miscalculation by Oliar and his enablers, I’m more convinced than ever that this epic fraud will self destruct before 2012.
At some point soon, whatever portion of the MSM that wants to survive this debacle, will find a way to get out in front of the leaks about the precedent that are guaranteed if this
incompetent, lying egomaniac continues to circle the drain.

Tigerlily, I understand the revulsion of having to watch another interview with The Precedent, but I highly recommend watching Bret Baier’s.

The health care part was pretty short – 20 minutes, or so, and in that time Baier managed to hit as many of the major issues (this week) as he could. He quizzed the Indonesian about DemonPass, pointedly and persistently, nailed him down on the double spending of the alleged Medicare half trillion “savings”, and managed to hit a couple of other good points, while keeping The Precedent roped in every time he tried to filibuster away about non-issues. When Bret let The Precedent babble on, it generated a handful of new (and all wrong) ideas, including the Precedent calling it “my health care bill” and being unable to explain anything about whatever that bill might be.

I’m going to watch it again, myself, because there were some nuggets I missed as I was commenting about it.

All in all, I feel better about this bill (whatever bill or rule or … they end up voting for in the House) going down in flames, because no one who was on the fence could have felt good about The Precedent’s truly pathetic performance (even worse than ususal, since Bret pushed good questions). I’m still wary of what is going to happen, but I feel a bit better that it will go down in flames.

neurosculptor on March 17, 2010 at 8:05 PM

“I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about what the … rules are.”

Translation from Swahili, ” I don’t give a flying frick about the US Constitution or the rule of law.”

US Citizens to POS Obama, “We do care about the Constitution and the rule of law.” And, you will figure out what this means very soon.

You funny, man!
Obama does ignorance with such eloquence, don’t ya’ know?

Cybergeezer on March 17, 2010 at 8:06 PM

So; What do we call him now?
Chevama?
Castrama?
Who Jintama?

Cybergeezer on March 17, 2010 at 8:09 PM

Democrats should quit using the mule as their mascot, and use the jackass Obama.

Cybergeezer on March 17, 2010 at 8:11 PM

Do not forget that he counts on people to be as ignorant as when they voted for him about a year and a half ago.

CWforFreedom on March 17, 2010 at 6:00 PM

ObaMao is drawing his conclusions from the passive acceptance or cheering of the zombies who attend his phony “town halls.”

onlineanalyst on March 17, 2010 at 8:15 PM

Castrama?

Cybergeezer on March 17, 2010 at 8:09 PM

LOL. That baritone of his is going to disappear.
