Obama on Slaughter strategy: “I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about what the … rules are”; Update: “Combative” video added

posted at 5:18 pm on March 17, 2010 by Allahpundit

Don’t worry, he only means procedural rules. Like, say, the filibuster. Which he spent quite a bit of time worrying about when he was part of the minority in the Senate, oddly enough.

That quote’ll look awfully sweet on a 2012 campaign button.

“I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about what the procedural rules are in the House or Senate,” Obama said. “What I can tell you is that the vote that’s taken in the House will be a vote for health care reform. And if people vote yes, whatever form that takes, that is going to be a vote for health care reform. And I don’t think we should pretend otherwise. And if they don’t, if they vote against it, then they’re going to be voting against health care reform and they’re going to be voting in favor of the status quo.

“So Washington gets very concerned with these procedures in Congress, whether Republicans are in charge or Democrats are in charge,” he said.

By “very concerned,” I presume he means that Republicans will sue his ass if he tries this. Which they will: Jon Kyl told Hugh Hewitt that there’ll be lawsuits aimed at both the process and substance (read: the individual mandate) of the bill, and Virginia’s attorney general went so far as to send Pelosi a letter all but threatening a Supreme Court challenge if she goes ahead with the Slaughter strategy. In fact, Mark Levin’s legal foundation has already drafted the papers. All they’re waiting for is Pelosi to pull the trigger — which, as I’ve said all along, I suspect she won’t do. Too many risks, too few benefits. For what little it’s worth, a Freeper claims to have contacted John Barrow’s office this afternoon to complain about the Slaughter plan and been told that it was dead as of just 15 minutes before. Something to keep an eye on if you’re watching the wires.

Oh, forgot to mention: The Obama quote comes from The One’s trip this afternoon back to “the scene of the crime,” the video of which we’ll have later. Don’t worry about this being a spoiler; the tension between him and Bret Baier during the interview should make it worth watching regardless.

Update: Via Radio Vice Online, here’s the clip from this afternoon’s Shep. The One does not look pleased.

Which means the House is back to trusting the Senate to push reconciliation after it’s signed into law. Good luck with that.

Call Your Representatives Now!

Call them now, and use their local numbers. Tell everyone you know to call them now! This is a fight for the soul and future of the United States of America; for the country we all love, and have inherited and preserved out of the blood and treasure of our forefathers.

Will the American citizens stand and fight as our great Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Guardsmen, and United States Marines, past and present, always stand and fight for our sacred liberty? This is a seminole moment in American history. We will live as one nation under God, or under government? Now is the time of decision! You must act now! Now is the time to let your voices be heard as never before. Where is the march on Washington? Where is the American spirit that never quits? Where is the American spirit that says “no” and “never again” to our enemies, and backs it up at all costs? Our soldiers are willing to die for this country’s preservation. Shall we not stand up on their behalf while they face bullets and bombs so we do not have to?

If you called already, call them again! If you have e-mailed them, do it again. If you have told your relatives, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, tell them to call and email, and fax them again! Stop what you’re doing and do it now! Our great republic is at stake!

Think of your children; and do it for them. Look into their faces; and then pick-up the phone and get on your computer, and let them know, we are still Americans, and we will not accept tyranny from anyone – foreign or domestic. We will never surrender to state control of our lives. Tell them that when you call and email them. Tell them we are not socialists, and we will not live under it now or ever. Tell them like Churchill “We will fight them in the air; on the land; and on the seas. We will never surrender.” Call them now! E-mail them now! Fax them now! Let them feel the people’s power. Do it now!

PLEASE CALL! DC OFFICE LOCAL OFFICE

I’ve gotten to the point where I have to wonder what level of brain damage has to have occurred for a person to NOT be at least AWARE of the arrogance of this president, even if they’re not disgusted by it. I mean, how can you miss it?

Is there anyone out there who actually argues for Obama’s humility any more, or have they just decided that good intentions (HAH) give you the right to be arrogant? Or is it his genius (HAHAHAHAHA) that makes it okay? Seriously, how do you progressives rationalize this any more?

Anyone have a link to a pyschological study of liberals that can enlighten me?

What happens when they see that the Commanding Officer, who also took an oath to Defend the Constitution of the United States, is doing the opposite, or at the least, trying to circumvent the US Constitution?

“What I can tell you is that the vote that’s taken in the House will be a vote for health care reform. And if people vote yes, whatever form that takes, that is going to be a vote for health care reform. And I don’t think we should pretend otherwise. And if they don’t, if they vote against it, then they’re going to be voting against health care reform and they’re going to be voting in favor of the status quo.

He presumes a procedure proceeding from a vote of the People.

Watch your step or Sean Penn will have you put in prison.

Ah yes, rules are for the peons, not for his royal highness.

Terrye on March 17, 2010 at 5:49 PM

He spits out the word WASHINGTON as if he has no part of it. If he keeps scowling at Bret like that he’s going to need to see Nancy’s doc about some botox.
Bret Baier is always a gentleman. Still can’t figure out why Obambi went on Fox in the first place.

ctmom on March 17, 2010 at 5:49 PM

Ugly process.

That which does not give Obama what he wants is an “ugly process”.

Tin pot tyrant with the soul of a rat in a thousand dollar suit.

spmat on March 17, 2010 at 5:50 PM

I think there were a few Marlboros being lit up in the oval office after that interview.

Mark1971 on March 17, 2010 at 5:50 PM

*shrug*

Even if you were to stipulate that Obama qualifies as a ‘constitutional scholar’, it doesn’t mean he agrees with the document or wants to abide by it.

Satan himself knows the Bible quite well, and can quote it expertly. You might say he is a ‘biblical scholar’.

Not saying Obama is Satan, by the way.

Midas on March 17, 2010 at 5:50 PM

Way to go, Constitutional Professor.

Which “arm” of the government will enforce mandatory purchase of health insurance? Will it be the “civilian national security force”. How are they going to enforce it?

So,cut to the chase,Hopey is lining up,

I wouldn’t put anything past him at this point.

TXMomof3 on March 17, 2010 at 5:52 PM

How dare Bret actually ask legitimate questions of Barack The Magnificent? Who did he think he was talking to? An American President?

kingsjester on March 17, 2010 at 5:52 PM

labrat, from what I understand the IRS is going to enforce the “you must buy health insurance” clause.

the bill says its to be the IRS.

elduende on March 17, 2010 at 5:52 PM

What was your prediction earlier, AP?

Oh, yeah:

My prediction: Baier asks tough but fair questions, and Obama offers platitudes as answers.

Got one already, what’s the over/under on the rest?

I.R.S. with the help of the Federal courts.

“I don’t spend a lot of time worrying about what the procedural rules are in the House or Senate,” Obama said.

How about the US Constitution Mr. Obama? Do you give any thought to that, and your sworn duty to uphold it?

Obama is going to push the American people to the breaking point. Sometimes I think that is his intent.

sandee on March 17, 2010 at 5:52 PM

Yep, and good luck with “i refuse to participate” angle there. Nothing like a process that could cost you your assets, your home, and some jail time to get people to cooperate, eh?

Midas on March 17, 2010 at 5:54 PM

Liberals like Obama hate having to explain their policies, or have someone ask tough questions.

therightwinger on March 17, 2010 at 5:54 PM

So I guess Fox is a “real news” outlet after all?

Anybody talking impeachment if he violates the constitution?

rrpjr on March 17, 2010 at 5:54 PM

He’s nothing but a bully!!! He bullied Brett, and I will not listen to the rest of it.

Bambi on March 17, 2010 at 5:54 PM

How funny is it that Barry gets PISSED whenever someone asks him a tough question.
Stephanie on March 17, 2010 at 5:47 PM

He was like that during the campaign. Biden, too. They adopted a ‘how dare you’ tone to anyone who was tough with them. Look, the guy isn’t a leader, he never was. He’s been in over his head since Day 1, and now it’s more and more out there for America and the World to see. Which is a good thing, I think. He’s dug himself a PR hole that will be awfully tough to climb out of.
