Rush: We have a lot of things to be embarrassed about in the US …

posted at 3:20 pm on March 16, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Rush Limbaugh starts off with my earlier post about Haiti and our refusal to fly the American flag at our base of relief operations in Port-au-Prince, and ends up calling Barack Obama a “third-world President.”  The Right Scoop captures the video from EIB headquarters, as Rush explains what he means. He ticks off apparent non-issues for Obama like Iranian nukes and compares it to the, well, nuclear reaction from the White House over Israel’s announcement to build 1600 houses in Jerusalem (via The Right Scoop):

It’s very simple. We have to destroy our country in order to save our leader’s face. Now where does this happen? It happens in Cuba. It happens in North Korea. It happens in Venezuela. It happens in every third-world country there is.

This may anger a few people and have them arguing over hyperbole. However, in the week that the President’s party plots to take over a sixth of the American economy without a floor vote, debating the finer points of rhetoric and banana republics is nothing short of academic.

Besides, can anyone argue that the White House has acted more forcefully and with public anger over the 1600 housing units in Jerusalem than to the nuclear-weapons program in Iran or the Iranian suppression of democracy activists since last summer? Which poses more of a threat to the US — 1600 housing units in Jerusalem or a nuclear bomb controlled by Iran? To call the outrage from the White House “disproportionate” is to make an art form out of understatement.

Irony: 1600 Houses being built in Israel makes Obama go nuts

160,000 houses in forclosure in California and Obama is happy as a clam.

The elections of 2010 can’t come fast enough, IF we will be allowed to have them……

The only way he will be able to keep power is to not allow us to vote him out. Sounds crazy, but the things he has done so far has been crazy.

This is why the birth certificate issue survives. All the evil characterization about Obama that people warned about have been proven true, which makes something like doctoring a birth certificate seem very plausible.

What angers Obama is anything that he decides embarrasses him. The world can burn before Obama will shoulder a bit of embarrassment. I guess that is typical of politicians that need their ego intact more than they need to serve their constituents.

Rush really nailed it. Our nation’s history is far from spotless (whose is?), but Old Glory and particularly what our flag stands for is nothing to be ashamed of.

Just because we have trouble living up to our standards doesn’t make the standards themselves invalid. If that were the case the Christian faith would be a sham because ‘all fall short’, and the idea of ‘liberty and justice for all’ no more than pretty words.

Added up, the America-hating Traitor-in-Chief has done nothing but vilify his own country (assuming he is really a citizen of same) and try to subvert its Constitution and laws.

The only rational conclusion to be drawn is this: he must be removed from office as soon as possible. Even if he was sent packing back to Chicago/Hawai’i/Indonesia/Kenya this week, the damage he has caused will take years to repair.

And now all of a sudden Israel is our supposed ally?

Puhlease, since Barack Obama has become president he has gone out of his way to insult our traditional allies while pandering to or just plain ignoring people like the mad mullahs. And what insult are you talking about? That land the Israelis were building on is their land, it was never in dispute.

The truth is the Obama administration are anti Semites. And the Palestinians do not now, nor have they ever wanted peace with Israel. There is the problem in the middle east, not some apartment houses.

And then finally to say that our troops can not display our flags on a humanitarian mission is just plain stupid.

Why were Pelosi, Reid and Slaughter opposed to such means of passing legislation when the Republicans controlled congress?

Why do you mischaracterize the event that triggered the diplomatic crisis between America and Israel in the way you do? America had given tacit ‘approval’ to continued Israel building in Jerusalem so the hysteria over an announcement that the 4th step of a 7 step process of approvals had been passed successfully. Netanyahu was unaware of the announcement and apologized profusely for it. the current bill does not represent a government takeover. i suggest you familiarize yourself with the details before you make such a statement.

deem and pass is an uncontroversial procedure used several times in the pass by both republicans and democrats. relatedly, the constitution (Article 1, Section 5) says that each house of congress “may determine the rules of its proceedings.”

israel is our ally and depends on us for its existence, so it should acting like it. timing the announcement of the 1,600 new homes to biden’s visit was a deliberate insult, and the administration had no other choice but to respond as it did. otherwise it would have looked, with serious consequences to our standing around the globe.

finally, the decision not to fly the flag is not unprecedented. it was made in kuwait in 1991 and iraq in 2003. using it to buttress your argument that obama is ashamed of this country is idiotic.

israel is our ally and depends on us for its existence, so it should acting like it. timing the announcement of the 1,600 new homes to biden’s visit was a deliberate insult, and the administration had no other choice but to respond as it did. otherwise it would have looked, with serious consequences to our standing around the globe.

Go fvck yourself. Israel does more for the U.S. than the U.S. does for Israel.

What Israel Does for the United States

Throughout the six decades since the Jewish people reestablished their sovereignty in the land of Israel, an often-repeated claim has been made, indeed we hear it now coming out of the Obama administration, that Israel is a draining liability on the United States. This claim is bogus, and an examination of the facts, hopefully, will consign this charge to the trash bin of history where it belongs.
Further adding to the problem, however, were the statements made by, and the conduct of, Israeli leftist leaders since the 1993 misnamed Oslo Peace Process that created the false impression that Israeli-American ties constitute a one-way relationship. The impression that the leftist governments of Israel gave was that the U.S. government gives and Israel merely receives, and thus Israel must constantly bow, quote “to American pressure,” end of quote, as personified by the U.S. State Department.
1. Alright, the truth is the relationship between the U.S. and Israel is a two-way partnership. For example, in 1952, as the Cold War got started, U.S. Army Chief of Staff, Omar Bradley, called for the integration of Israel, which was only four years old, into the Mediterranean basin area in light of the country’s location and unique capability. In 1967, Israel defeated a radical Arab pro-Soviet theater offensive, which threatened to bring about the collapse of a pro-American Arab regime in the region, disrupt oil supplies, and thus severely undermine the American standard of living. The U.S. gained valuable military information from an analysis of the Israeli-captured Soviet equipment, including SAM 2, SAM 12, MIG 21 aircraft, and Soviet T54 battle tanks. In fact, Israel gave an entire squadron of MIG 21’s to the United States, which was dubbed the “Top Gun Squadron” and was used by the U.S. Air Force and naval forces for training purposes.
2. Since 1967, Israel [has] transferred captured Soviet weaponry systems to the United States Pentagon after every conflict: ‘67, ‘67-’70, ‘73, ‘82, and 1990. They even transferred SCUD remnants from the Gulf War that had been fired on Israel, and the 2006 Hezbollah war against Israel, where they transferred missile components supplied by Iran, to the United States.
3. In the 1967-’70 thousand day War of Attrition, The Israeli armed forces, armed with American aircraft successfully defeated a Soviet-supplied air defense system, pointing out the deficiencies in Soviet air defense doctrine to U.S. defense planners. Israel shared captured military equipment, including a P2 radar, [for] which they stormed an island, Green Island, dismantled this two-ton radar and had it helicoptered, airlifted out, off the island, back to Israeli lines, and then they turned it over to the United States.
4. In 1970, Israel brought about the withdrawal of Syrian forces from Jordan, at a time when the U.S. was tied up by wars in Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia, thus preventing the fall of the pro-American Hashemite regime and the installation of a pro-Soviet, radical Palestinian terrorist regime.
5. In 1973, thanks to U.S. resupply, but without U.S. forces, Israel defeated Soviet-trained and equipped Egyptian and Syrian forces. Israel again shared captured Soviet equipment, including battle tanks, with the U.S. Israel emerged as the only reliable ally, where U.S. troops could land, where U.S. equipment can be prepositioned, where the U.S. has friendly port facilities in Haifa and Ashdod, in the entire Middle East region. This too has saved the United States billions of dollars.
6. In the 1970’s, Joseph Cisco, a former U.S. assistant secretary of state, assistant to Secretary of State Henry Kissinger during the latter’s “Shuttle Diplomacy,” told the Israeli author and military expert, and adviser to Menachem Begin, Shmuel Katz, quote, “I want to assure you Mr. Katz, that if we were not getting full value for our money, you would not get a cent from us,” end of quote. So this is a kind of off-handed manner in which they say, yes, the United States is benefitting from what they get from Israel.
7. In 1981 Israel bombed the Iraqi nuclear reactor at Osirak, delaying Saddam Hussein’s quest for nuclear weapons. It thus provided the United States with an option of engaging in conventional wars with Iraq in 1991, when they liberated Kuwait, and in 2003. Just imagine if Saddam had the bomb and we went to liberate Kuwait, and in fact the past vice-president of the United States, Dick Cheney, [had] a photo in his office, I’m sure he took it with him, of the bombed out Iraqi reactor, to remind him of this invaluable service that Israel did for the Free World, not just for Israel.
8. The vice-president of General Dynamics [Corp.], which produces the F16 fighter jet, has stated that Israel is responsible for 600 improvements in the plane’s systems, modified by Israel to make the plane much better, and it is estimated to be worth, these modifications, billions of dollars, which spared dozens of research and development years for General Dynamics.
9. In 1982 Israel destroyed Soviet anti-aircraft batteries in Lebanon that were considered immune to American weapons. Israel promptly shared that operation’s lessons, estimated to be worth billions of dollars, with the United States.
10. Former Secretary of State and NATO commander Alexander Haig has stated that he is pro-Israeli because Israel is the largest American aircraft carrier in the world, that [it] cannot be sunk, does not carry even one American soldier and is located in a critical region for American national security.
11. Next: During the first Gulf War, in 1991, Israel provided invaluable intelligence, an umbrella of air cover for military cargo, and had personnel planted in the Iraqi desert to pick up downed American pilots.
12. Furthermore, General George Keegan, former head of the United States Air Force intelligence division, had publicly declared, quote, that “Israel is worth five CIA’s,” end of quote. He further stated that between 1974 and 1990, Israel received $18.3 billion in U.S. military grants. During the same period Israel provided the U.S. with $50 to $80 billion in intelligence, research and development savings, and Soviet weapons systems captured and transferred by Israel to the United States. In 2005 Israel provided America with the world’s most extensive experience in homeland defense in warfare against suicide bombers and car bombs. American soldiers trained in IDF facilities and Israeli-made drones fly above the Sunni triangle in Iraq as well as Afghanistan, providing U.S. Marines with vital intelligence.
13. In September, 2007, the Israeli Air Force destroyed a Syrian/North Korean nuclear plant, extending the U.S.’s strategic arm. It provided the U.S. with vital information on Russian air defense systems, which are also employed by Iran. It bolstered the U.S. posture of deterrence and refuted the claim that U.S.-Israel relations have been shaped by political expediency.
14. In 2009 Israel shared with the United States its battle-tested experience in combating Palestinian and Hezbollah terrorism, which are the role models of anti-U.S. Islamic terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan, contrary to what the current administration labels as “overseas manmade disasters.”
15. The U.S. GI’s benefit from Israel’s battle tactics against car bombs, improvised explosive devices, and homicide bombing. An Israeli-like ally in the Persian Gulf would have spared the need to dispatch U.S. troops to Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and unfortunately there is no other country. Israel has relayed to the United States, lessons of battle during the Cold War, Soviet military doctrine and counterterrorism, including aircraft security, homicide/suicide bombing, which reduce American losses in Iraq and Afghanistan, prevent attacks on U.S. soil, upgrade American weapons, and contribute to the U.S. economy. Without Israel, the U.S. would have been forced to deploy tens of thousands of American troops in the Eastern Mediterranean basin at a cost of billions of dollars a year.
16. Senator Daniel Inouye [D-Hawaii] said in 2005: “Israeli information regarding Soviet arms saved the U.S. billions of dollars. The contribution made by Israel’s intelligence to the United States is greater than that provided by all the other NATO allies of the United States combined,” said Senator Inouye.
17. Israel’s utilization of American arms guarantees its existence, but at the same time, it gives the U.S. military industries, such as Boeing and General Dynamics, a competitive edge compared to European industries while also boosting American military production, producing American jobs and improving America’s national security.
18. Japan and South Korea, for example, preferred the Hawkeye spy plane and the MD500 chopper, both purchased and upgraded by Israel, over comparable British and French aircraft.
19. The American industries want the U.S. aid to Israel to continue. The bulk of that $1.8 billion in U.S. aid to Israel must be spent in the United States. That provides jobs for some 50,000 U.S. workers. Virtually all of the $1.2 billion in annual economic aid goes for repayment of debt to the United States, incurred from military purchases going back many years. This debt is now close to being liquidated, contrary to what some of our other allies still owe us. Don’t worry. The present administration wants to lend money to Cuba, which nobody in the world wants to loan money to.
20. Innovative Israeli technologies have a similar effect on civilian and computer related industries and agricultural industries, which view Israel as a successful research and development model. Members of the Congress, then Vice-President Cheney and [former] Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld are aware of Israel’s unique contribution to our interest. But they all wonder why post-1993 Israel doesn’t use its impressive contribution as leverage, in sharp contrast to pre-1993 Israel. And that’s because the leftist government just wanted to show that they could make peace with the Arab terrorists that want to kill them.

To conclude, what does Israel do for the United States? In contrast to our commitments to South Korea, Japan, Germany and other parts of the world, not a single American service person needs to be stationed in Israel. Considering that the cost of one service person, per year, including backup and infrastructure, is estimated to be about $200,000 per year, and assuming a minimum contingent of 25,000 troops, and we have much more in many of these places, the cost savings to the United States, on that score alone, are on the order of $5 billion a year. If anyone tells you Israel is a drain and we’re just pouring money into it and get nothing, tell them to take another swig of Kool-Aid and put their head back in the sand, because they don’t know the reality.

the current bill does not represent a government takeover. i suggest you familiarize yourself with the details before you make such a statement.

sesquipedalian on March 16, 2010 at 4:21 PM

There is no bill. There are 2,399 pages of vague suggestions to be filled in later.

I heard this today on my car radio, and was thinking about the elections in Iran. People were slaughtered in the streets and obama didn’t say a word for over eleven days. Not one word!

I was outraged that there are no American flags in Haiti. Then I realized that I don’t have an American flag on my own house in Tennessee (many of my neighbors do). I called my husbands office and asked him to bring home a big beautiful American flag to hang on our house for all the world to see!

Red, White, & Blue, forever may she PROUDLY wave!!!

Why do you use ignorant, juvenile phrases like ‘fat freak’ and then slam others as ‘disqualif[ied] from serious discourse?

ProfessorMiao on March 16, 2010 at 4:18 PM

Why don’t you ask Andy? Because apparently even daring to question the USA’s precious pet nation makes you worthy of this:

Eat sh-t and die Jew-hating bast@rd

So it wasn’t a p-shop ?
Maybe Mixelle needs to appear on Huckaby’s show one more time !! And while she’s on his show, she might also explain all those commies on Christmas ornaments too..

macncheez on March 16, 2010 at 4:32 PM

and I would disagree with you about taking years to repair, as much of this damage is irreparable, I think. This is not something that elections are going to solve.

neurosculptor on March 16, 2010 at 4:07 PM

Actually, I do believe elections (after action is taken to remove the current traitorous elements from power) can indeed solve at least a majority of our current problems.

With a patriotic president and majority in congress — and that includes those (few) liberals who believe in the Constitution — destructive laws and policies can be repealed, and those new laws (not many) necessary to protect America and its people can be enacted.

The destruction wreaked on the economy will take longer, but removal of the fear of government interference in normal, lawful business practices and a major reduction in government spending can start the ball rolling.

As for what Osama Obama and his traitorous thugs have done to America’s image: that can be dealt with simply by acting right. Stop coddling terrorists and those who despise our nation (Castro, Chavez, Li’l Kim, Mad Mahmoud, China and too many Arab nations), work with our genuine allies, stand tall and proud. Help when needed, but always put the defense of our land first.

This is all so obvious it shouldn’t need to be said. But for the Chicago Jesus and his minions, it must be shouted.
