We all sound so depressed! BUT they DO NOT the VOTES. And I DO NOT think they are going to get them. ;)

Isn’t that why they’re going to try the Slaughter solution? They don’t have to have the votes if they do that.

Hmmmm…..I think everyone would agree with her assessment on George Will. Obama definitely succeeded with that Conservative pow-wow last year. Will has come around recently, but sparingly.

Electrongod on March 14, 2010 at 11:24 PM

Won’t they need something like a 2/3 majority and the President to sign it? Obama will veto it. He doesn’t give a damn what the people want. We’d have to wait until after 2012 if we want to repeal it – if we elect a President who will sign it.

atheling on March 14, 2010 at 11:18 PM

May not have to wait until 2012. As long as both houses override his veto by 2/3s each. You don’t think that surviving blue dogs will be happy to vote with the majority, when the tide shifts?

Main thing is that those running in 2010 now need to campaign explicitly on repealing this monstrosity. If those campaigners win overall across the country a la Scott Brown, then that is a bonafide mandate. What the donks won in 08 was no mandate by any stretch of the imagination.

AH_C on March 14, 2010 at 11:24 PM

Yeah, our country is hanging in the balance. We the people will stand up and make our voices heard and do what we can, but we really need some divine intervention……another massive snow storm or something…

conservative pilgrim on March 14, 2010 at 11:21 PM

I am glad to see so many Americans that DO CARE about the USA and are willing to stand up and you are right that divine intervention part would not hurt either.

Part of the end game is fewer physicians, in particular specialists. Specialists tend to do or order things that are more costly. Two recent surveys have shown that >50% of practicing physicians are going to be looking to make an exit from practice if this passes. One other little tidbit is that the general rule of thumb is that it takes three recent graduate physicians to replace two older practicing physicians.

BTW, you do know that the desire for this bill really doesn’t have anything to do with healthcare, don’t you?

There would need to be a Constitutional challenge to the bill.
I’m wondering if SCOTUS can overturn it before the end of 2010.

Assuming it gets passed. Look, even with the Slaughter Rule on the table still, they will pass this, by hook and crook.

Kini on March 14, 2010 at 11:27 PM

Axelrod and Gibbs are whistling past the graveyard. They know they are in serious trouble and trying to bluster their way through. Gibbs doesn’t say $hit like the bill will be law by next week if the votes are there.

Dire Straits on March 14, 2010 at 11:00 PM

…AND under Obamacare doctors will be very poorly paid, and will be paid only at the whim of a panel of political appointees…who will argue with the doctors about the treatment he is using.

If this POS passes, there will be very few doctors willing to accept government “insurance” of any kind.

So that’s why the ‘RATS are sneaking in the federal takeover of the student loan program. If the federal government controls the purse strings to your education, they can tell you what you will study.

conservative pilgrim on March 14, 2010 at 11:08 PM

That is another hidden aspect of the current bill. Gender and racial quotas are built into health-care training into perpetuity. (see the Mona Charen piece at NRO)

Imagine having a diagnosis, surgery, or treatment by a person who has a role in health care only because he/she has fulfilled a quota, not because he/she has an excellent skill set. I don’t want my home’s electrical, heating, roofing, or plumbing done by a quota-filling employee, nor do I want my car to be serviced by such a person. Why would I entrust my body’s health to a cipher?

Aviator on March 14, 2010 at 11:26 PM

Fewer physicians means that more health care decisions will be made by other, periphery services. So we’ll see a decline in quality of care because those who really aren’t qualified to practice medicine will assume some duties normally done by physicians. We’ll see more nurse practitioners, medical assistants, etc.

“After being convicted of a world wide HOAX, costing millions to loose life savings and crushed under false idiological regulation, Al Gore spent his first day in prison on the start of a 100 year life term plus 2,000 years just so no one does it ever again…

The cell door opens to a dark, damp, dimly light small cell with two open bunks, an open toilet, one sink, and a single old light bulb hanging from the ceiling…

Al Gore faces a large, tattooed, repeat offender that will be his cell mate for the rest of his life…

The prisoner calmly asks Al Gore: “Do you want to be the husband, or the wife?”

Al Gore answers: “Ummm, ahhh, ummmm, what do you mean?”

Prisoner: “It’s simple, my man, do you want to be the husband or the wife?”

Al Gore: “Well, if I had a choice, (choke) I guess I would, well, want to be the husband…”

Prisoner: “Fine, then get over here and suck you wife’s di%k!”

Midas on March 14, 2010 at 11:23 PM

My understanding was that they have to vote on whether to accept the Slaughter rule or not, and that the supposed benefit of that would be that one could claim they voted for a rule that had precident (although there actually isn’t a precident for it being used in anything near this context) instead of having to acknowledge having voted for ObamaCare.

I could be wrong, but if it seems as though if they don’t have the votes, they are effed on either count.

SEC. 227. SENSE OF THE HOUSE REGARDING ENROLLMENT
OF MEMBERS IN THE PUBLIC OPTION. It is the sense of the House of Representatives that Members who vote in favor of the establishment of a public, Federal Government run health insurance option, and senior members of the President’s administration, are urged to forgo their right to participate in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) and agree to enroll under that public option.

2 of my doctors here, both from India, been here for about 40 yrs, will be moving back to India.
Reason : They know they’ll be driven out from this country , one way or the other by a thuggish government.
And the best part is most of their patients say they won’t mind going to India to get their surgeries / followups from them. Hospitals and clinics in India are looking forward to a slight increase in doctors moving there from here. They know their patients will follow.

On the plus side, maybe FINALLY the GOP will wake up to the fact that politics is a bloodsport not some f*cking country-club bullsh!tting session.

Philip Klein from Twitter (The American Spectator):

They’re using this old bill because under recon rules, they need a bill that was sent to budget cte by Oct. 15, 2009.

He’s saying this is a shell bill.

Last wk, Ryan explained how Dems would release “shell” bill & “airdrop” changes in rules committee. http://bit.ly/aO9xDa

Yeah I was just reading that on twitter… it seems like this is just the starting point for reconciliation, and they’ll change the contents for what they want + the student loan bill.

Yikes! “Chewy’s scale of terror???”
Vee haf vays off making you tawk!”

Actually, listening to all the Hotarians tonight, I’m feeling a whole lot better that this constitutional abortion will be prevented before the first trimester is complete. I am in the presence of some incredible patriots, and regardless of outcome, you all have, and continue to fight like tigers. Let’s keep it up, cuz’ we’re either going to be victorious in a few days, or we’re going to be defeated. I know that if there is justice, it won’t be the later. But either way, the Jakarta Kid is going to continue to challenge us, so, sigh, no resting on laurels, or falling on swords, whatever the outcome.

Ahhem: (Cue appropriate reverb, please:)
“Afterall, we are the ones we have been waiting for!”
(Extraordinary, rapturous crowd roar. Cue the Messiah: “Now is the time for all good men to bow.)

10PM here. It’s movie time! 100″ widescreen projection, 6.1 surround sound. The main event is “The Green Mile” with Tom Liberal Hanks. The theme tonite will be similar to Mystery Theater 3000 where we will mock Tom and and throw popcorn at the screen. It will be a blast.

Had to laugh that Episode III is on Spike right now, and Palpatine just declared himself emperor. When does O don the hooded cloak?

The only reason we’re still discussing this is they don’t have the votes. The only question is if reason and truth will prevail or if the national socialists will get their way.

If it weren’t for the Internet, we’d have 16 years of Obama, constitution be damned.

SUBDIVISION A—AFFORDABLE
HEALTH CARE CHOICES
SEC. 100. PURPOSE; TABLE OF CONTENTS OF SUBDIVISION;
GENERAL DEFINITIONS.
(a) PURPOSE.—
(1) IN GENERAL.—The purpose of this subdivision is to provide affordable, quality health care for all Americans and reduce the growth in health care spending.

The bill doesn’t refer to The Citizens of the United States. “Americans” can be used to refer to Canadians and Mexicans. I believe Guatamalans, Bolivians and Brazilians are Americans, too.

I thought these bills were written by lawyers using exacting lawyer-ese language… It seems a little sloppy and I just got to page 4.

OBAMACARE…….

..Is not about real “insurance reform”

..Is not about innovation

..Is not about health exchanges that give consumers “choice”

..Is not about keeping doctors from cutting off peoples feet, cutting out tonsils or doing unecessary procedures for cash.

..IT’S ABOUT CONTROL….CONTROL…..CONTROL!!!!!

..it IS about a Government Bureaucrat telling your family that THEY have determined that Baby Britney is in a “hopeless” medical condition and must have services terminated because of “COST”.

..it IS about telling your or my relative that was injured and is in a coma that they are in a “vegetative state” and policies and procedures provide that care must be terminated and that “the state” has done enough.

..it’s about Congress having their own SET OF RULES, “Two Americas” if you will that can provide for the Elitists in D.C. all the medical care they need with never a question about rationing or lack of care….ONLY THE BEST for our beloved leaders….but scraps for you NAMELESS, FACELESS, SERVANT CLASS.

..it’s about THEM telling US what we can and can’t do….

HOW ABOUT THIS WEEK…..WE TELL THEM WHAT TO DO!!!!!

All Americans who oppose this bill should refuse to pay federal income taxes. They can’t put 65% of us in jail.

lavell12 on March 15, 2010 at 12:48 AM

2 of my doctors here, both from India, been here for about 40 yrs, will be moving back to India.
Reason : They know they’ll be driven out from this country , one way or the other by a thuggish government.
And the best part is most of their patients say they won’t mind going to India to get their surgeries / followups from them. Hospitals and clinics in India are looking forward to a slight increase in doctors moving there from here. They know their patients will follow.
Is there something they know and we don’t ?

macncheez on March 14, 2010 at 11:52 PM

Yeah, medical tourism. There’s a bunch of 5-star hospitals going up in India, South Korea and Carribean to cater to us. And why not? For 1/4 to 1/2 the cost of comparable surgeries, i.e. organ transplants to cancer treatment, joint replacement, you can fly somewhere, check into a hospital more like a luxury hotel with hi-speed internet, big screen TVs in private rooms, spa etc and get fixed up by highly trained doctors — none of that affirmative action crap.

I read such an article on United Airlines’s flight mag, either Dec or Jan issue. I think medical tourism was the theme, as there was a bunch of ads from all over and several articles. One story related how it was so “cheap” that a woman brought her friend w/her to spend a couple of weeks for the surgery and post-surgery rehab. Which makes sense, when a stranger in a foreign country, that you’re not alone.

So I guess if you’re looking for something to invest in, invest in airlines that fly to such destinations (UA didn’t fail to embed a small ad noting they can fly you there) and in those hospitals. Oh yeah, another article mentioned employing a variety of payment options from insurance to payment plans. That is until the donks figure to outlaw medical tourism. If so, we’d all be outlaws if we could afford it.

AH_C on March 15, 2010 at 12:51 AM

I won’t dispute that. But, today I heard some pundit {I forget who} make the point that if he left and the vote failed, he would be blamed for leaving.

there was a clip that is on the cutting room floor. It’s Axelrod daring the GOP to point out the corrupt democrats during the 2010 campaign.

This man should share a rubber room with Pelosi. He couldn’t STOP the GOP from making Obamacare the center point for booting Democrats. The Slaughter Solution has a second meaning-it stands for the slaughter the Democratic party will suffer in 2010, 2012 and well beyond. Can you say political oblivion David?

Niteowl45 on March 15, 2010 at 1:06 AM

SEC. 123. HEALTH BENEFITS ADVISORY COMMITTEE
There is established a private-public advisory committee which shall be a panel of medical and other experts to be known as the Health Benefits Advisory Committee to recommend covered benefits and essential, enhanced, and premium plans.

This will consist of 9 political appointees by POTUS & 9 by the Comptroller General. Then to even the score, another 8 federal employees will be appointed by POTUS.

This is just one of the panels to include compensation, per-diem etc. If that’s not enough, there’s this gem:
SEC. 141. HEALTH CHOICES ADMINISTRATION; HEALTH CHOICES COMMISSIONER.
(a) IN GENERAL.—There is hereby established, as an independent agency in the executive branch of the Government, a Health Choices Administration (in this subdivision referred to as the ‘‘Administration’’)….

That’s just 2 panels out of ?? dominated by POTUS. What, the HHS cabinent ain’t enough?

Since when does any organization improve or lean out by creating not one, but a bunch of panels?

In a way, I’m looking forward to tar, feathers & rails. Methinks it will be quite cathartic for many of us after the abuses we’ve endured from both donks & rinos to purge them out.
