Quotes of the day
posted at 9:30 pm on March 13, 2010 by Allahpundit
“This weekend marks the kick-off of the Coffee Parties across the country— which has been billed as the liberal response to the Tea Party movement — and I stopped by one of the Washington D.C. area gatherings Saturday morning at Peregrine Espresso in the Eastern Market area — only to find a small gathering of five activists huddled at a small table.
“Kathleen Frydl, a professor on sabbatical from Berkeley, led the discussion on topics ranging from Tea Partiers to the media. Frydl said that even though she finds parts of the Tea Party movement to be ‘nuts,’ there are a couple of things she agrees with the conservative activists on, like adopting a simpler tax code. She took issue with a recent Tea Party document of legislative demands called the ‘Contract from America’ as an example of how Tea Partiers are trying to ‘speak for America.’…
“They spoke mostly in generalities — not diving into the specifics of policy or really asserting positions on any topic — about health care, energy, poverty and climate change, though one participant said he feels strongly about immigration reform, explaining ‘everyone should live where they want to live.’”
***
“The approximately 50 people in attendance ranged from students, young people in their 20s, a female military officer in her upper 50s who was an ardent pacifist, and many middle-aged people like myself who weren’t sure what they were walking into but were open to a new paradigm. Led by activist and entrepreneur Andy Shallal and CodePink founder Medea Benjamin, the meeting’s rules were clear: No bashing of the Tea Party and a willingness to talk and listen. The presence of a CNN crew lent a festive air as did the free (organic, free trade) coffee…
“I recalled the first time I voted in an election. I’ll never forget the excitement — even though I was out of the country and voted absentee. It was a seminal moment for me, the time I realized I played a part in the direction of my country. It was my Patriot Moment. Today was my second Patriot Moment. If ever there were a grassroots movement, this is it. But it can’t be portrayed as elitist or against anything because today I was part of something that had no boundaries. We may not have created an agenda for the future or a manifesto or a slogan. But we did create a sense of hope and purpose and conciliation.
“In the coming months, the Coffee Party may even begin talking to the Tea Party; perhaps we can jointly attend a Caffeine Party.”
***
“‘Frankly, we are petrified by the tea party and what they stand for and what they’re talking about,’ said Monte Carmel, a retired business executive from West Palm Beach.
“‘I’m tired of all the misinformation, the cute little labels the fright-wing has thrown on everything,’ said a man named Russ.
“‘To me, government is the answer. I’m really sort of perplexed,’ said a man named Joe who said he had been a teacher for 44 years…
“Brownstein, who is white, said ‘white southerners in this country are going nuts’ because of the popularity of black figures like President Obama and Oprah Winfrey. He said he raised the issue because ‘you have to know who your enemy is.’”

I watch a series on FT on TruTV Channel. I figured all the publicity would ruin it. But that female dance troupe “Flaunt” should make it worth one trip.:)

Grab the hubby, pack your tightest clothes and hit the road. My wife keeps me mostly in line (she’s pretty much a non-drinker) and we have a pretty good time with our friends. It’s casual, you hang out and meet people, walk around admiring bikes and people watching, then sit around a campfire solving the world’s problems.
The burnout competition is great fun, sometimes we go and watch the hill climbing dirtbike comp, or…if you are feeling audacious…there is a machine-gun range right there at Buffalo Chip.

It’s too bad really, the soul of the entire event seems to be dwindling, not that I would want to have Sturgis revert to the bad old days (I wasn’t around then but I hear it was wild and truly dangerous).
Jack’s hasn’t succumbed to the glitz factor, you can walk up to a plywood side bar, the place feels like a pole barn, and the female bartenders don’t act as if they are too good to share a smile with the patrons. FT feels like Applebees while outside there are guys wearing polo shirts and boat shoes showing off custom springer bikes they barely know how to ride.

Five people. FIVE people at a coffee house.
Hell, “Frazier” and “Friends” both had more coffee drinkers
in their regular cast at their coffee house scenes.
And CNN devotes a reporter and a producer and a cameraman to this non-story. Well, Obama can chalk up THREE MORE JOBS SAVED OR CREATED, bringing the running total to MINUS 3,587,533 for this year to date.

If it doesn’t look sprayed on, it doesn’t count. My wife is always determined to wear less square inches of clothing than the year before, and it’s getting close to “OMG” territory with her. Don’t worry though, there are plenty of guys for the women to check out; the spouse likes to tell me every year that this is the year she leaves with some hunk and never looks back.

If you make it, be sure to attend the Buffalo Chip Burnout drag competition, like I said look for big dudes wearing my logo shirts. If my bike makes it into the competition you will know it, a sleek black and red monster with “BISHOP BR” emblazoned on the side. I’ll be the guy piloting it.
If I don’t get in the comp, head for One Eyed Jacks; same shirts, more noise. Bring your spouse, we’ll launch him onto the main bar and give him memories for a lifetime.

I like how they qualified his moral authority at the beginning of the quote. This saved me a lot of time and missplaced racism. If that qualifier would have been at the end of the quote, I may have spent 2-3sec thinking, “geez, what a stupid black guy”. But imediately, I was able to correctly assume, “geez, what a stupid white guy”. You know how all of us typical white, southern males are…we are genetically racist and therefore can only judge our surroundings through the view of “white people = good, brown people = bad”.

Coffee Party? Not so much. Just twice used grounds.
Caststeel on March 14, 2010 at 7:01 AM
I understand the Coffee Party has a new logo and that they’ve also developed a new, special blend.
.
They’ve even written poetry describing their overall strategy and how they should relate to the tea-partiers:
.
To counter the Tea-Party Movement,
Progressives conclude it behooves ‘em
to gather and meet
for coffee, not tea,
to further progressivist movements.
.
They think that the Tea-Party Movement
misjudged what would best have behooved ‘em
’cause coffee, not tea,
best fosters the need
to answer the call for a movement.
.
So therefore, Progressives have started
the launch of a new “Coffee Party,”
so movements like theirs
are found everywhere
when coffee is drunk at their parties.
.
In contrast, the Tea-Party thinks
such new Coffee-Party will link
the public’s perception
of coffee confections
as spawning a movement that stinks.
.
Yet Tea-Party folks aren’t perceived
as drinkers of latte or tea,
but like independents,
their hot-beverage preference
is coffee that’s strong, ‘stead of tea.
.
Progressives more likely than not
in choosing a beverage that’s hot
drink latte or tea,
not coffee from beans,
which doubles this paradox crop.
.
“So how can this paradox be
removed?” asks the Party of Tea.
A “how” is not needed,
but why ain’t it needed?
‘Cause through it most people can see.
.
A new “Coffee Party” official,
who knows it to be interstitial
‘twixt “social” and “istic”
has asked, “Can we fix it
to not be perceived interstitial?”
.
“We must be covert to succeed
to make independents believe
that we are like them
with vigor and vim
supporters of liberty’s creed.”
.
Covertness of course needs a name
for winning covertly the game–
a name that avoids
subliminal voids
opponents can fill with the name.
.
The name “Coffee Party” is not
immune from subliminal plots
against it by those
intent to expose
facades we erect for our plots.
.
An acronym-coiner explains
the new Coffee Party’s real name
ain’t “Party of Java”
or yada or yada–
It’s really “C.P.U.S.A.”
.
The acronym-coiner’s a booster
of Cubists prohibiting “losers”
at the Peoples’ Cube dot-Com,
which includes
a writer by name of “Red Rooster.”
.
“Our new Coffee-Party’s a movement.
It’s nom de plume name for our movement
has drawbacks” said Rooster
“’cause Tea-Party boosters
can mock it as coffee-spawned ‘movement.’”
.
“You ask what I mean,” added Rooster,
who then quoted Tea-Party boosters
in ads that proclaim
“C.P.U.S.A.
yields movements like coffee-caused movements.”
.
We’d thought that the Party of Tea
in smearing us wouldn’t succeed;
however, says Rooster,
the Tea Party boosters
seem likely in this to succeed.
.
And tries by our media flakkers’
to mock them with terms like “Tea-Baggers,”
have failed ’cause they’ve turned
the use of such term
from smear to a young-male attracter.
.
So, what should we learn from these facts
from watching our media flaks?
It’s harder for flaks
for us to attack
the Tea Party people as quacks.
.
So therefore, we have to develop
improvements of ways to envelop
our tactics behind
facades we devise
to keep our agenda enveloped.
.
However, maintaining facades
is tougher these days than it was
when channels for news were
three for one view
sans radio, bloggers and Fox.
.
So therefore, our task must include
regaining control of the news
like “localize” tools
for radio rules,
net-neutral and neuter Fox News.
.
TPC has been on top of these developments.

The Coffee Party is much ado about nothing. 20 gathered in Dallas at some coffee place – The rules are to be civil than they start calling people in the tea party movement names….That’s not civil. “They scare me” is code for they are not civilized, you know civilized like “Tame Sheep”
Because that’s what the Left likes in the American electorate Blind Sheep – following them off a cliff. Coffee doesn’t really stand for anything=.
TEA stands for Taxed Enough Already….so the Coffee Party is really a lame rip off. I suspect that most of them drink DeCaf so nothing is going to go anywhere with this so called Coffee Party anyway.

I think they are legit grass-roots, converned citizens, just loopy, as evidenced by a $220B deficit in ONE month last month, February, and not even a leap year.
Take it to the street Coffee Party. Let’s see what you’ve got. Personally, I’d like to see unmoderated (except for questions) and televised debates between local leaders.
But, speaking for the Tea Party, our loopy adherents are not allowed on the dais. It’s the deficit stupid. Money does not grow on trees and that is where the immediate threat to our Union lies.

George Soros is about to discover he has a tougher adversary in America than he has come up against before. He thinks he can infiltrate our government from within by paying off a bunch of sleazy Democrats? He thinks he can hire some PR firm and get his little Open Society brownshirts to stop the real grassroots movement underway in this country? He has another thing coming.
This IS about who we are. We are a nation with freedom like the world has never seen, but we are a nation of laws based on our Constitution. Braver, more strong-willed and smarter men than Soros founded this country, and it is not for sale. These crooks in DC are on their way out, and we have reached the endgame.

The Tea Party was the culmination of a resistance movement throughout British America against the Tea Act, which had been passed by the British Parliament in 1773. Colonists objected to the Tea Act for a variety of reasons, especially because they believed that it violated their right to be taxed only by their own elected representatives. Protesters had successfully prevented the unloading of taxed tea in three other colonies, but in Boston, embattled Royal Governor Thomas Hutchinson refused to allow the tea to be returned to Britain. He apparently did not expect that the protestors would choose to destroy the tea rather than concede the authority of a legislature in which they were not directly represented.
This is not some “cute label.” It is not a TASTE TEST. This is a call to arms and a fight to preserve our government.
chunderroad on March 14, 2010 at 8:36 AM
You can tell that whoever the collective minds of dunderheads were who came up with this idiotic idea haven’t a foggy clue as to what the history of the “tea party” really is, or of its roots.

Anyone paying attention that does not see the despicable media bias in coverage of the coffee party as compared to the TEA Party is either ignorant or blinded by their partisanship.
This type of bias and activists cheer leading by the press
should anger anyone no matter what their political leanings are.
At least this article does reveal some of the ignorance and socialist views of Obama supporters:
….”petrified” about demanding accountability from our government….
…”petrified” about pushing for lower taxes.
…..”petrified” about demanding an end to funneling billions of dollars to lobbyist and special interest.
……..”petrified” about supporting the Constitution, our individual rights, and stopping the destruction of the private sector.
…….”petrified” about stopping dangerous spending that is plunging this country into a black hole of debt that could destroy our economy.
I am betting that that this person considers Jefferson,Adams, and Franklin to be “right wing extremist”
….As stated in earlier comments….the irony of complaining about “cute little labels” while eschewing them yourself smacks of hypocrisy and ignorance.
I am sure the “smart one” here will simply state as most liberals do “it’s okay when I say it because it’s the truth”
….what makes this statement even more pathetic is reviewing some of what we heard from the “adults” for the last 8 years:
Bush lied,people died
Selected not Elected
Re-defeat Bush
9/11 was an inside job
No blood for oil
Bush is Hitler
Envision Impeachment
War is not the Answer
( I love these bumper stickers right next to the Kerry/Edwards and Obama stickers…you know…democrats who either voted for wars or voted to fund them and support the same policies that Bush was labeled a “war criminal” for using.
…..here are plenty more:

address this first and foremost by looking in the mirror.
….Greeeeeeeeeeeat!!!!!….a teacher that obviously has no clue about our Nation’s Constitution.
I am sure his house is filled with books from Lenin and Marx.
….I bet Brownstein heard the word “boy” shouted in his head as he made that quote…
…..more bigoted accusations of racism coming from the “adults” with ZERO facts to back them up.
I wonder if Brownstein is happy that Obama does not talk with the same dialect of all those other dark skinned people.
…”you have to know who your enemy is” is exactly right when it comes to liberals…..
…there enemy is:
Conservatives
The Constitution
Christians
The Military
Unborn Children
Their allies are:
Democrats
Communist Dictators
Lenin
Marx

…It is also pathetic to see little Miss. “I hate war and the warmongers who carry it out” Medea Benjamin going from vandalizing recruiting centers and calling for the Deaths of President Bush,Cheney, to little coffee shop sit downs.
…..She does realize that Obama is waging war using the same tools that they called Bush a war criminal for using.
….Shows that all that yelling about “civilian deaths” and “imperialism” was nothing more than a political circus….
…..the anti-war movement has no credibility what-so-ever.
