Finally: “Hot Air: The Movie”
posted at 7:14 pm on March 13, 2010 by Allahpundit
It’s not what you think. A real “Hot Air: The Movie” would be a ten-hour epic of me and Ed hunched over our keyboards, looking haggard, silently typing, typing, typing while the daylight fades. (It’s an art film!) This is … much, much freakier than that. Remember when Fiorina’s creative team promised ads even loopier than the now immortal “demon sheep” spot? Say this for Team Carly: They keep their promises.
Not sure why she’s targeting a Democrat when she’s still in a double-digit hole against Campbell, but I guess the “Barbara Boxer as a blimp” idea, once conceived, simply had to be born.

Blowback

If the tyrants in this administration get their way; you’ll be taxed for laughter.

How can anyone diss this production?
It certainly keeps you watching and it’s….different.
Thumbs up.

Anyone else get a sense of similarity between Boxer’s hot head and the George Clooney smug cloud in that one South Park episode?

Much better than the killer sheep ad. Oh, and Boxer has only authored and passed 3 bills in 18 years? Pathetic.

Wow… This is hilarious.

Can’t stand Fiorina.

Love the fingernails on a chalkboard and the final firey crash LOL
But, I want legislators who do almost nothing, except I’m happy if they busy themselves repealing old laws.
I can dream, right?
mockmook on March 13, 2010 at 7:30 PM
Pretty funny.
Is that Keith David (the narrator of A&E’s City Confidential) doing the voice over? It sure sounds like him.
jix on March 13, 2010 at 7:31 PM
That’s what I was thinking. I am leaning that way but I wonder what a guy who most be a liberal, a black actor, must think of doing the narration of a video trashing a west coast liberal icon.
keep the change on March 13, 2010 at 7:33 PM
1. To get voters used to the idea of her as the candidate running against Boxer
2. because she apparently figured out that Republican voters want to see our candidates attacking Democrats, not each other.
I don’t know much about the candidates, but this is a good ad. Carly comes across as a very likable candidate, and at the same time, it looks like a campaign that could beat Boxer.
American Elephant on March 13, 2010 at 7:34 PM
Seriously couldn’t tell if this was real or a spoof until about halfway through. Thanks for sharing AP!

Keith David does a ton of narration / voice acting, but I don’t think that was him.

Is that what an LSD trip feels like?
I liked this better than the “demon sheep” ad. Gets the point across and presents the candidate in a good light.
But Medieval History? Hope you didn’t strain yourself too much Carly……

golfballs03 on March 13, 2010 at 8:02 PM
Definitely Monte Python influenced. Drags on too long. Fiorina makes me cringe. The Flowbee isn’t really working for her either.
imshocked on March 13, 2010 at 8:02 PM
Uh, Carly only voted in 5 out of the last 18 elections. That is as pathetic as 3 bills introduced in 18 years in the senate for boxer.
Great ad, just not too keen on Carly.
jbh45 on March 13, 2010 at 8:04 PM
“Please call me senator, I worked so hard for that title.”
No, you are not worthy of that title. How about Former Senator?
The Rock on March 13, 2010 at 8:05 PM
As for those polls, it will be interesting to see if Campbell’s recently developing (exploding?) issues with Israel take a toll on their own – both on his numbers and on his campaign – but it’s still three months to the primary, in a huge, distracted state. Campbell’s basically “generic Republican.” I wouldn’t trust any numbers until mid-May.

I’m seeing it now. Something with an obscure French title: Allahpundit: C’est si bon!
Rightwingguy on March 13, 2010 at 8:09 PM
Piffle!
Carly had a great seed of an idea, until she went more than :30. First rule of marketing: you can’t yappity-yap yourself to the top of the heap. Can’t remember who said it, but it’s true: “If you can sell with ‘blah’, don’t try to sell with ‘blah, blah.’
Poor liddle’ Carly is tryin’ the blahblahblahblahblahblahblah strategy.

Ms. Carly “H1B visa – outsourcing queen” Fiorina can go to hell in the Babs Blimp.

Surely can’t be more expensive than Irish car bombs.
Rightwingguy on March 13, 2010 at 8:18 PM
Well given the geniuses we get from Harvard, and other ivy league schools, maybe we should start looking at high school drop-outs.
sharrukin on March 13, 2010 at 8:18 PM
Oh my Gawd. This ad is bizarre, but I like it. I think the big head of hot air accurately depicts Boxer.

Sorry to get bent…

I’m no fan of Fiorina’s, but that is one brilliant ad. Funny and sharp.
Respect.
neurosculptor on March 13, 2010 at 8:34 PM
This spot is either
The most brilliant ad ever,
Or the stupidest.
I say it’s brilliant.
It will get millions of hits,
And it drives it home.
Haiku Guy on March 13, 2010 at 8:35 PM
I liked this one but Fiorini’s campaign still sorely needs an editor…this one devotes too much footage in the beginning to the Boxer Blimp and it isn’t until after the Carly Fiorina-resume portion that things get salient.
AND they need to drop these nameless, unsmiling people staring at the viewer (it’s not conducive to “joining with” the candidate, it tends to be off-putting to the viewer, no one likes being stared at by ‘strangers’ who are unsmiling and steely-focused).
I particularly liked the closing graphic with that figure hiding her face (simulating Boxer’s cowarding) slinking away from the Lincoln Memorial in D.C. That ought to have been used twice (once toward front of video, in addition to that ending bit).
The video (like the Demon Sheep one) is too long, though. They are spending far too much time on the opposition and not enough on the candidate.
