Big, big mistake in thinking.
If all you require is a fiscal conservative, then you’re asking for trouble. The old GOP elite can play the fiscal conservative game quite well and say all the right things, and you’ll wind up voting in someone with no real personal convictions, who will better manage our nation’s decline.
We need a complete conservative, not a partial conservative. This distaste for social conservatives — who are some of the most reliable conservative voters fiscally as well — is the biggest threat to being able to roll back the excesses of the Obama administration.
BTW, McCain could be accurately described as someone who was fiscally conservative and conservative as far as national security, but who had a distaste for social conservatives. Do we really want another candidate in his mold? Just a McCain who’s better on the economy?
If you actually want to win the next election, you would be very foolish to decide you don’t need the social conservatives.

I’m referring to his “decent man” comment and having his knickers in a knot over “vitriol”; it makes him look silly. Obama represents evil (i.e. Marxism is evil and he’s a Marxist), therefore now is not the time to play nice and say “but he’s faithful to his wife!” The ONLY thing I care about is whether he is faithful to the Constitution. Since the answer is “no” I don’t care if our side isn’t polite. A man who is wringing his hands over ettiquette is kind of a weak ally imo. Politics is a rough and tumble business and he needs to get over it.

What always amazes me is the ability of some Christians to confuse Christ’s commandments for a personal commitment to love our neighbor with government sponsored socialistic programs. Somehow they believe that paying their taxes relieves them of any responsibility to give to the needy, the sick, the widows and orphans.

Besides this being about the 3rd time in the article that Politico uses an Obama supporter to portray that holding Obama accountable is somehow wrong (must protect the ONE)….it also makes no sense.
If they support the “limited government stance” of the TEA party….then how can you not attack the single most powerful person in the country who is expanding that government(government takeover of banks,car companies,mortgage companies,and now heading towards health care)…..which is Obama.
….If you don’t go after the President who is leading the charge in this socialist agenda…than who?????
….and if attacking a sitting President is so bad….how did this person vote democrat after their 8 years of hatred spewed at President Bush?????
I have yet to meet any TEA partier from DC to NC that feels like we should “take it easy” on the President.
Maybe Conservatives need to plant themselves in the “coffee movement” so we can get interviewed and say how turned off we are of the blind allegiance to Obama and defense of all things corrupt within the democratic party……somehow I don’t think that would make the Politico headlines.

2. Michelle Obama “voluntarily surrendered” her law license in 1993.
3. So, we have the President and First Lady – who don’t actually have licenses to practice law. Facts.
4. A senior lecturer is one thing. A fully ranked law professor is another. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, “Obama did NOT ‘hold the title’ of a University of Chicago law school professor”. Barack Obama was NOT a Constitutional Law professor at the University of Chicago.
5. The University of Chicago released a statement in March, 2008 saying Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) “served as a professor” in the law school, but that is a title Obama, who taught courses there part-time, never held, a spokesman for the school confirmed in 2008.
6. “He did not hold the title of professor of law,” said Marsha Ferziger Nagorsky, an Assistant Dean for Communications and Lecturer in Law at the University of Chicago School of Law.
7. The former Constitutional senior lecturer cited the U.S. Constitution recently during his State of the Union Address. Unfortunately, the quote he cited was from the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution.

That’s why conservatives running for federal offices need to state clearly that social issues are local and should not be addressed by the federal government and that they will vote against any federal laws that attempt to control social issues nationally, even if it fits with their own beliefs.

One thing I have learned in my work within the tea party: social conservatives are some of the last ones to ever champion “individual freedom.” I’ve even had a few tell me it’s dangerous.
But almost to a person, everyone – whether social con or libertarian – deeply opposes Obama and the Dem agenda. They can do enough math to understand that national bankruptcy is immoral, so they ignore their differences and work hard to gain more understanding of the Constitution.

As I posted the other day, I wonder how a candidate would fare if they ran on making abortion illegal and a death penalty offense. Death penalty for the doctors and the women who have gotten abortions. It’s “murder” so death penalty for all previous abortions.
Sanctity of marriage? That went out the window with anyone who has gotten a divorce. That’s a broken covenent with God.The Government has no business in the marriage business anyway. They got into it in 1865 after the Civil War, so blacks and whites couldn’t marry. Before that it was the domain of the churches, no legal government marriages.
The Tea Party Movement is about getting government out of our lives as much as possible. Not about putting a government gun to the head of a 14 year old girl raped by her father and being told, “The State requires you to have this child because we say so.” Or a woman with an “elephant man” type of fetus which poses a threat to the life of the mother, being forced to have the monstrosity because of the law. All fetuses do not end up looking like the kid on the Gerber Baby food jar. Unless we adopt the practice of the ancient Spartans,ie leaving the deformed creature on a mountain for eagles to eat, abortion is pretty much a medical procedure. You can make it illegal all day long, but that just drives it underground. See drug use in this country for an idea of what illegal abortion looks like.
Social Conservatism is as totalitarian as Progressivism and just as ugly. Everybody should just mind their own damn business. So go ahead. Run a candidate with making abortion illegal and have another four years sinking deeper into Communism. I’ve noticed Sean Hannity has dropped “right to life” in his list of conservatisms lately. Even he knows that’s a loser…..

This article seems a bit…strained to put it mildly. Except on abortion I’ll definitely part ways with the social cons, but when it comes to fiscal responsibility heck I’d hold hands with James Dobson if need be. I have strong suspicion that most folks would do somewhat likewise regardless of what they rank as important.

If you want to include social issues, but in a rather non-threatening–and unifying–manner, then talk about the issue of taxpayer-funded abortions. Pro-choicers and pro-lifers in the tea party movement will both agree that taxpayers shouldn’t be funding abortions.
And there you have it. Fiscal cons and social cons find an area of agreement, and all is well in the world.

Today’s conservative “leaders” know better, and have adopted a strategy of grasping for centrist votes even if they alienate much of their base in the process.

Just how big is the tent in which social conservatives are not welcomed? Or is it that we’re welcomed as long as we keep our mouths shut and our opinions to ourselves? Hell, under those conditions we’d be equally as welcomed in the liberal tent.

All fetuses do not end up looking like the kid on the Gerber Baby food jar. Unless we adopt the practice of the ancient Spartans,ie leaving the deformed creature on a mountain for eagles to eat, abortion is pretty much a medical procedure.

You two reveal the ugly nature of who you are with your own words. Above are posted two of the reasons that our nation is in the sewer; the two of you who helped pull it down there with you.
But, some day real soon, the government that you are giving us will find that you are unwanted, or by illness or old age you will become a “deformed creature” and hopefully by then your government will have imprisoned all those pesky SoCons who would interfere with what people (like people in the government) can do to others weaker than they. SoCon weirdos think they “know what’s best for you”.
Your “principle” of killing the unborn for these reasons will apply to you also, right? And you will be pulled apart, limb from limb, just like in the abortion procedure that you love so well, right? And when a SoCon steps in to defend you from your savage murder, you will make sure to tell them to get lost and stop acting like they “know what’s best for you”, right? RIGHT??

I would agree on everything but basic ‘framework’.
For instance, on abortion, medically necessary procedures should be allowed but anything else should be up to the state to either allow or not. And the hardliners on both sides who want their views enforced nationwide can go sit on a cactus.
