Dems set to break promise to post final O-Care bill online 72 hours before vote
posted at 8:10 pm on March 12, 2010 by Allahpundit
Might as well. They’re about to overhaul American health care with a bill passed in the House by implication. To honor the 72-hour pledge in that context would only compound the insult to the public’s intelligence. If you’re going to show contempt for proper procedure, really show it. There’s an element of honesty in that, at least, that almost redeems the lousiness of it all.
Almost.
House Democrats appear to be softening their pledge to allow the public 72 hours to review the health care reform package online before a House vote. “We will certainly give as much notice as possible, but I’m not going to say that 72 hours is going to be the litmus test,” said Majority Leader Steny Hoyer on Friday.
“The House bill or Senate bill, as proposed, has been online for some two-and-a-half months, otherwise known about 75 days,” Hoyer added, referring to the November and December dates each chamber passed its version of health care legislation…
“The House Democratic Leadership is committed to having the final health insurance reform legislation online for 72 hours before the House votes, for all Members and the American people to review. We will continue the transparent process this landmark legislation has had for months,” Pelosi wrote in a January press release.
The punchline? Precisely because of the Slaughter strategy, it’s not the Senate bill that the House will be voting on. They’ll be voting on the reconciliation “fix,” which will be deemed to include the Senate bill but which hasn’t even been written yet. Will that be ready 72 or 48 or 24 hours before the vote on? No one knows. Although honestly, at this point, I hope it isn’t. I’d prefer to see them finish the bill an hour before the vote, or else to pass a completely blank reconciliation bill and then fill in whatever provisions they like at a meeting with Obama afterwards. That’s the only truly fitting way to end this fiasco — that, or having the bill fail narrowly during the House vote, at which point Pelosi would rise and somehow simply “deem” it as having passed. The more illegitimate this thing is, the greater the (admittedly small) chance that the GOP can roll back parts of it later. So here’s to Democrats getting really, really crazy with the cheese whiz.

So where do we meet to stop a coup?

Virginia Dems are hopeless. I know since I live in Virginia. I sent letter after letter to my two (D) senators (Warner and Webb) to apparently no response except for an automated email, called my two senator’s office again and again and finally gave up and sent a nasty letter to each of my senators.
I actually am pretty busy otherwise so I did not visit their office. I know, I know, people would insist that I am derelict from my duty but I was not a political person until the Fool took over the presidency. Truetexan, there is a button to schedule appointments or visits to any particular Senator from VA on their website. Hope you have better luck there.

The box of sharpened sporks lying ready on my table? Manufactured by the ’1483 Utensil Company’.
Coincidence? I think not.

If you want to fight the Left and win, you’re going to have get a hell of a lot tougher and more ruthless than Paul Ryan and John Boehner and Mitch McConnell.

I’m with you on this one. This whole thing is depressing.

You need a macro in your blogging software in which you can use one or two keystrokes to type “Dems set to break promise” followed by a blank you can fill in.

Who knows? Perhaps that’s in the bill? Mandating college loans are from the government only is in there, isn’t it? I’m sure Pelosi was being flippant when she said we’ll just have to wait til it’s passed to read it, to find out what’s in it. There is a method to her madness. Of that, I have no doubts.

The bill to abolish the Constitution deserves an up or down vote, or so we’re led to believe. Or maybe they’ll just use the Slaughter rule again, and reconciliation, to pass a budget bill which would also happen to specify that a separate Constitutional Amendment abolishing the Constitution had already been passed with all the necessary votes counted—even though no votes were actually counted.

This is the end of the government’s legitimacy. No foolin’.

They couldn’t get this done for an entire year with a super majority, filibuster proof Senate plus the presidency and they still have to cheat. I guess we don’t have to worry about how many votes Mrs. Pelosi can get.

In 1483 Richard III usurped the English Throne.
And later that year, Torquemada was appointed Inquisitor General of Spain.

If they can do this then what’s to keep them from just cancelling future elections? It’s not like any of the are afraid of November.

When do the states activate their militias?
I think its time.

Yes! Go for the crazy, Dems! Break every rule. Stomp on every check or balance. Wreck it, so that when the adults arrive, they may have at least a chance to repair it.

Whatever has happened to the tar and feather industry?? I think it is way overdue to get more jobs in that industry even though it may not pay well it would be worth all the effort.

ANYONE THAT CAN MAKE IT TO D.C. ON MARCH 16TH, NEEDS TO GO TO MARCH AGAINST THIS TOTALITARIAN GOVERNMENT.
Cybergeezer on March 13, 2010 at 8:36 AM
That is a great question. I suppose one could march up and down the mall in D.C. voicing one’s outrage in chants. But that’s been done and was almost completely ignored by the media and, where not ignored, was downplayed and maligned. This time will be no different, I suspect.
Can state militias be called out in force to quell a coup? More likely, they’d come with tear gas to quash the revolt of the unruly “NAZI wingnuts” who dare to speak out against the our beneficent overlords.
And there’s no way the American people would ever think of marching in armed revolt against our usurpers in Washington. We are no longer that America.
Instead, we will piss and moan and perhaps rant a bit about “next time” like the fans of the losing team at the Superbowl, saying, “We’ll get ‘em next year!”
Perhaps an all-powerful nanny state is what we really want or if not want, truly deserve?

If there was ever a time to deluge Congress with letters, emails, and phone calls, that time is now!
If there was ever a time to deluge a Congressional reps office with emails and phone calls, that time is now!
If there was ever a time to deluge the offices of the President, the Speaker of the House and the Majority Leaders of Congress with emails and phone calls, that time is now!
Because now is the time to MAKE Congress hear the voice of We The People!
And We The People say WE DO NOT WANT THIS BILL PASSED!
The time is now!!!!!
