CNN thoughtfully writes glowing press release for Coffee Party launch tomorrow

posted at 7:01 pm on March 12, 2010 by Allahpundit

Tomorrow’s the day they start taking back America, one Sanka at a time. Think I’m kidding about the press release? See for yourself and tell me how, in any material respect, it differs from something the CP organizers would have written themselves. Obligatory obfuscation of the group’s partisan leanings? Check.

They’re professionals, musicians and housewives. They’re frustrated liberal activists, disheartened conservatives and political newborns. They’re young and old, rich and poor, black, white and all shades of other…

This new group calls for civility, objects to obstructionism and demands that politicians be held accountable to the people who put them in office.

Flattering comparison to the tea party movement? Check.

The self-described libertarian and fiscal conservative was, and in some ways still is, a supporter of the Tea Party. He initially backed Sen. John McCain for president in 2008 and isn’t, himself, comfortable with the idea of a public option in the health-care system. But the direction Oxford has seen the Tea Party take recently has him concerned.

He can’t help but think it’s being hijacked by social conservatives and the far right, he said, and as a gay man who’s committed to gay rights, it may not be his cup of political tea.

Moronic touting of the number of fans their Facebook page has? Check.

Born on Facebook just six weeks ago, the group boasts more than 110,000 fans, as of Friday morning. The Coffee Party is billed by many as an answer to the Tea Party (more than 1,000 fewer fans), a year-old protest movement that’s steeped in fiscal conservatism and boiling-hot, anti-tax rhetoric.

To put that in perspective, there are 1.2 million fans for Baby Megatron. But as I say, follow the link and see for yourself how eager the media is to boost this Democratic kaffeeklatsch as a full-blown rival to tea partiers. Oh, and be sure to check out the videos embedded on the page too. The “artistic expression” one is spun gold.

Absurdly vague. How do they expect the minority Party to oppose anything on ideological grounds?

Or, I suppose it will be called something different when roles become reversed.

anuts on March 12, 2010 at 7:28 PM

OK, so I thought of a couple of things and want to share them with ya’ll.

I’ve gone to sleep the past few nights humming “God Bless America.” Whatever happens with HC will be made right. I don’t know what that means, and I don’t want this socialist crap anywhere near me. I can scream and kick and cry and buy sporting goods and practice using my sporting goods, but at some point something greater than me, and us, will make it right.

“Coffee baggers ” (ew!) began as a group whose goal was to protest the Tea Party. Isn’t that kind of like looking at yourself in a mirror, with a mirror also at your back, and seeing your reflection go to infinity? Either that or they’re messing with quantum physics. Ding dongs.

I think this is funny: I’m in Texas. You know how the textbooks in Texas will likely be the textbooks in many other states? Well our Education Agency is officially more conservative than it has been in years. This idiot government may screw us baby boomers, but our kids and grandkids will be raised on conservative textbooks. They will learn about the American Revolution and our Founding Fathers. LOL!

There are many, many Constitutional attorneys who, if HC passes, will challenge the Constitutionality of mandatory fees and fines; and thirty-something states are reviewing the 10th and how that affects them.

We do have hope. Don’t give up.

Dr Evil on March 12, 2010 at 7:33 PM

Well, this’ll be fun. A CNN-Fox Smackdown!

Can CNN vault the Coffee Party over its Tea-oriented rivals?

Or will Fox’s slam-dunk of the Big Time slots trump the aging CNN brand, and keep the Tea Partiers on top?

Besides its other handicaps, CNN starts with a major drawback. “Tea Party” makes Americans think of sneaking onboard ships in dead of night to throw stuff into the harbor and LYAO. “Coffee Party” makes Americans think “$3.95 for a latte at Starbucks? Geez, at Dunkin Donuts I can at least get a chocolate-frosted cream to go with it.”

It is all in the name

The Tea Party has a historical antecendent in the uprising against Imperial Britain and her taxes. And what a ride in freedom and glory it began!!! Even as it fades before our eyes.

The Coffee Party could not look to history for a name since every previous statist, socialist program has eventually led to a suffocating, freedom destroying, failed experiment that in its best outcome, resulted in a damaed economy. The outlines of the worst results of concentrated state power are a huge, dim hulk in the distance which I pray never replace the light of our forebears.

He’s so conservative that, even though he doesn’t like government mandated healthcare, he is so much more scared of a few protesters that he joins a group that supports a president whom he voted against that wants to take over 1/6th of the American economy and turn America into a European Socialist State. I think it’s very telling that liberal groups that want popular support always hide their true agenda and attempt to pass themselves off as “centrist” or “non-partisan,” while conservative groups (like the Tea Party) don’t stoop to any such misrepresentation.

I think it shows two things:

1) That conservatives are more honest.
and
2) That liberals realize that if they revealed their true agenda to Americans, Americans wouldn’t buy it.

terryannonline on March 12, 2010 at 8:19 PM

GREAT post on the CP site.

I am a liberal but more of an independent lefty open to any ideas that make sense and solve problems. So far all I am seeing on this site is 99% typical same ole’ far left talking points and the same old name calling of anything right of far left. As a moderate I see posts telling me that I am the problem. What is diverse or new about that?

The current discourse I am reading seems as closed minded as some of the Republicans are to our ideas. How does that promote “open and respectful dialogue” as described in the mission statement put forth by Annabel ? How is that change? So what is different about the coffee party than any other far left blog site? I can get this same stuff at the Huntington Post.

Why then do we blame the Republicans and call them obstructionists or worse and I see no criticism of the Democrats we elected that have actually had the power of both houses even in the last years of Bush?? I think to be legitimate we need to look at ourselves in the mirror and realize the Democrats share about half the blame in the mess that is government that can not get any solutions passed. Seems both sides use the same political tactics and lack of cooperation when the other is in power. Both sides seem more interested in getting re elected then doing what is right and what the people want. I see special interest groups affecting legislation of both parties so why is it wrong for Republicans and OK for us?

As one example, I am a Physician and see the tremendous cost of frivolous lawsuits on practicing medicine – hell – on everything in America- so though I realize that the American Bar Association is one of our strongest supporters of our politicians, I still think we can find a common sense way to discourage lawyers for bringing non-legitimate suits against well intentioned Doctors. Yet we will not put any such ideas in the health care bills or the idea is simply dismissed- why is that different then them? We should do anything to create a cost efficient health system regardless of which party claims the idea.

Are we that blinded by love and naivety that we think that all Democrat politicians are good and well intentioned and the other side is all bad? If we do think that way, then the coffee party will never change anything and the mission statement put forth is a joke unless we are truly willing to listen to all ideas and by any sense of logic, accept that the solution always lies within a compromise and collaboration of ideas.
