Video: Whitman’s bizarre press conference
posted at 3:10 pm on March 11, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
What if a candidate for office called a press conference, and then refused to talk to the press? California candidate for governor Meg Whitman invited the press to cover a meeting with the state’s railroad commissioner, but then surprised the press by refusing to talk to them. Instead, the nonplussed reporters got shooed out of the event by Whitman’s aide, but not before beclowning themselves, too:
She put up a screen to keep from having her picture taken? Doesn’t a candidate usually want face time on TV and pictures in the papers? The press may not be a friend to Republicans, as the local CBS station proves by interviewing only Democrats for reaction, but Whitman invited them to attend the event in the first place. Of course, it doesn’t help that the first question asked of Whitman was whether she had a reaction to a “Wiki-Meg” website, which is of course the most pressing issue facing Californians in 2010. I’d be tempted to roll my eyes and move on to another event, too.
Whitman at least apologized for the mess. Maybe the press might think about apologizing for their performance in this instance as well.

No doubt. Unlike Sarah, Meg could throw in a couple of chins.

Don’t forget – Meg is a BIG FAN of Van Jones.

This is true. I don’t actually think she’s got it all together upstairs to be honest. She’s done about zilch interviews, doesn’t answer any questions, etc.
The thinking was that she was ahead up 13 points or something and should just keep quiet so she doesn’t spoil her lead – it ain’t gonna work.
I’ve got a bad feeling that Jerry Brown is going to be the next Governor of CA.
Not that it matters anymore. This state is pretty much extinct.

Honestly, is there any hope for California?

The solution to California’s problems isn’t a girlier version of Schwarzenegger. As a Golden State emigrate, I’d much rather see Jerry Brown running the state into the ground. You can only rebuild from the rock bottom.

Love the backhand toward Palin. You sure can trust the press to be unbiased.
I sure do not want this RINO to be the GOP candidate. And a dumb RINO at that.

I am so ticked off at her negative adds that show two to a commercial break that I and the rest of my family have vowed never to vote for her, even if she wins the primary. There is just so much cr@p that you can take and consider yourself upright and vote for her. She is officially dead in the water to us.

She’s taking lessons from Obama not having any press conferences since July.

Under Meg Whitman, eBay went from popular and growing to unpopular and shrinking (before the downturn, btw).
California is already unpopular and shrinking (fiscally).
Umm, no.
At least Jerry Brown seems to waste at least half his time on pointless dithering and self-conscious ego trips. That’s like being subject to only half the devastation.
Mind you, either one could put and end to the state, economically speaking, and neither one will address gerrymandering or corruption.

So what? She’s just a big, ugly RINO using Obama’s own tactics, right down to hiding information that should be made public. When they hound the Obama(s) about their endorsement of these Soviet-style tactics, I’ll give a flying f–k.

I think Meg needs to change her party to democrat. She’s doing the same thing Obama did and he got elected. Now look where out country is.

Democrats say she refuses to release documents? Why don’t they say that about the President. Oh, that’s right, he’s a DEMOCRAT. MSM Get Out Of Jail Card Free was used.

Fiorna is running for SENATOR against Boxer. Whitman is running for Governor. I’ve barely even heard of Poizner and I’ve been active in Conservative politics in CA. Campbell is the closest thing we have to a true conservative but he’s got a rep like Newt or Armey or Santorum back in the day. He may win the Primary, but unless ObamaCare makes a massive drag on Liberals state-wide, he’ll be hard pressed to win against a Democrat candidate. Not good for the state I live in!
Sultry Beauty on March 12, 2010 at 1:09 PM
BTW– When they put up Poizner or Whitman against Feinstein or Brown they only Republican that comes close is Whitman against Brown. She’s at 10 point differential in polls and Poizner is at 20 points. Campbell isn’t even an option since he’s decided to run against Fiorna in bid to be Senator. Besides, Whitman isn’t gonna do much as Governor if Democrats still control the state legislature. Campbell has more power to change things as Senator. It’s a good choice for him and better chance to win.

RINO in waiting.

Thank you!
Conservatives in liberal states are different than conservatives in a conservative state. How hard is this for Hot Air conservatives to understand!?
“True” conservatives who wish to keep the GOP pure are stupid. Meg Whitman may not be your cup of tea but California will be much better with her leadership than under Brown’s leadership.
Um, No she isn’t.
