Video: Beck, Michelle agree on Massa Disaster

posted at 12:15 pm on March 10, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

When I found out that the Boss Emeritus had an appearance on Glenn Beck’s radio show today, I tweeted my curiosity about what topic they would cover. Give Beck credit; he invited Michelle back to the show the next day to let her say, “I told you so,” but she eschews that to make a point about corruption being part of both parties. If yesterday was a civil war on the Right, today is Unity Day. The Right Scoop has the video:

Well, yesterday wasn’t a civil war, or even a particularly rough argument, but it was worth it today to see the coverage of the power grab that Michelle describes in the latter part of the interview. Three cheers to both for focusing on the big issues.

It’s not like Mr. Beck was the only one who thought Mr. Massa had a story to tell. I would love to know the wild stories Mr. Massa told Mr. Beck off air to get him to devote all that time. I bet they were doozies.

+2 Beck.

Wise counsel was given, failed to listen to it, and the predicted outcome occurred. Now he says sorry and that she was right.

Good for Beck, good for MM, and good for all of us.

Beck’s vulnerability is his strength.

Ed, you seem to think Beck having Michelle on again is something unusual for him… “To his credit” ??? Beck is a decent man and has always shown that he is whether you agree with him or his approach.

Real class Michelle….you could have easily rubbed a little salt into to Beck’s wounds, and yet took the first class road of further exposing Pelosi and her corruptive “house” that will do anything to expand their power. This is why she will always be “the boss” around here.

The big looser in all this is Geraldo. For all of one day he thought he had a new BFF in Beck.

meci on March 10, 2010 at 12:34 PM

A precursor to many more appearances on Beck’s show for MM?

Absolutely!

I’m thinking Beck has a new-found admiration for MM – a lady who has more (and bigger!) nads than any Republican inside the Beltway. If a few of them could just borrow some Moxie from MM, there would a much more “representative” form of government going on!

Beck took a chance,I think the only change might have been to limit the time especially when massa tried to advertise for the dems.

ohiobabe on March 10, 2010 at 12:36 PM

Even though the interview bcm boring, it’s not a wash.
And Beck was trying to give a potential whistle blower the platform to share his story in the hopes that this guy might’ve come clean w/ some info that would help this country.
Obviously a Dem cannot do this.
But I feel Massa drew even more attention to the slimy & slipperyness of the Dems & general overall politics of DC by appearing on GB.
I know the drive by media will spin this as a failure for GB.
But it wasn’t.
And GB is an honest decent guy.
There is nothing wrong with that.

The past couple days prove that people probably should probably take their radio talk show hosts with a grain of salt. They’re entertainers, people! Stop taking them so seriously.

Last week, everyone was rightly making a big thing about his ethical violations, but as soon as he came out (no pun intended) against the White House, people started to take what he has to say seriously. For cryin’ out loud, Glenn Beck put him on for an HOUR! And then – surprise – we discover that he’s not the next Zell Miller, but by that point, it was too late.

Cindy Munford on March 10, 2010 at 12:44 PM

I’m still missing why this was an ‘I told you so’ opportunity. I didn’t get to listen to the convo yesterday, but the recap seemed to center largely around MM expressing concerns that Beck would ‘glorify’ Massa somehow, and that certainly didn’t happen.

I’ll try to go back and listen to both exchanges, I suppose (not like there’s nothing else to do or concern ourselves with, *ahem*).

Sweet. But I think he’s currying favor. Personally, I thought his logic was on track. People wanted to hear Massa. He snagged the interview. We weren’t disappointed, either.

And, in fact, open communications has pretty much clarified the situation because we could see the flaws in Massa’s thinking for OURSELVES.

Electrongod on March 10, 2010 at 1:16 PM

As far as I can see it , this is a win-win-win for the opposition.
This gets Massa in the headlines when in the past no one would have ever known who he was despite Michelle’s efforts.
Even though he indicted both parties on Beck yesterday, it is clear to all his accusations are pointed at the Obama Administration and the Democrat leadership.
He has claimed Rahm tried to strong arm his vote in a naked assault in the shower stall. He has claimed the Democrat leadership has worked to get rid of him once they gave up on turning his vote.
He claims both but his own party specifically are rotten to the core.
On top of that , his frisky leadership style with his subordinates makes him the poster boy for not allowing gay men to “serve openly”(whatever that means)in the military.
He seems to think that subjecting gayish behaviors on younger men that are subject to his authority is not just okay but expected in the Navy. Most people are likely to disagree.

People are bound to see this in three ways.
Massa is lying, corrupt and incompetent or
Obama and the Dem leadership are
or
All of them are.

What it the downside to all for those who oppose Obama’s healthcare reform?

LeeSeneca on March 10, 2010 at 1:16 PM

Beck warned up front that it may be a waste of time and after revelations of “tickle fights”, personal X-rays, and scrapbooks with photos of bizarre activities squids do aboard their ships, Beck apologized to his audience. Michelle was right all along and Beck was big enough to admit it.

Massa is why they invented soap on a rope.

cartooner on March 10, 2010 at 1:22 PM

The only thing better would be if we could find a witness to the Rahm danglin’ shower attack.
Then the questions would have to be asked , what did Obama know and when? Did Obama order Rahm to strong arm congress persons in the shower? What complimentary shower gels are available to them? Where was Obama at the time of the bare butted attack?
Obama will be force to explain where the shower curtain’s have gone on national television and the difference between nude and naked.
LMAO
Ahh I miss the Clinton years a bit.

My take-away from this is that, in the larger picture, this is all about personal responsibility and accountability. A lib on the other hand would be pointing fingers and claiming victimhood.

It is an amazing epiphany when you let go of this “one-up” attitude about politics and come to the amazing realization that holy jesus we are really screwed here. You understand that these people will be shaping the life you children live long after you are gone.

It is this moment when you have to pull yourself back from the edge of panic where you want to train your kids to be some militia/survivalist and teach him which worms to eat and realize that there are others ways to ensure their future well being.

Beck…one of my favorite Americans. He does seem to be concerned for us, for the Republic. I’ve been fooled before, but it’s gettin’ to be a lot harder to do as I grow older.
When I hear Glenn describe Geert Wilders as a fascist…I wonder what the hell went wrong. When I hear Krauthammer agree with him on this…and I really like KrauthHAMMER, I have to lift my jaw off the floor and try and get it back in place.
Thus, when he is so far off course as to attack Wilders, I wonder what else is going on in his head.
Just search “thighing” and Khomeinis little green book of islamic jurisprudence. If you don’t get a little sick to your stomach then there might be something wrong with you. Just sayin’…

Also Glenn, give up this both sides are a fault. There are a far more Republicans who favor cutting spending and limited government than there are Democrats who favor the same. You sound as stupid and patronizing as O’Reilly when you say that stuff. Stick to principles. Promote them, explain the virtues the founders espoused (specifically thrift), how they are currently ignored (I would like a take down of the dubious “paradox of thrift”), and explain how a smaller government would benefit more Americans than the current system.

Finally, get back to the debt clock. Unfunded liabilities is where the game lies. We all can understand mortgages and that there is no good scenario where we are able to pay our unfunded liabilities. It is a mortgage we cannot afford to pay. We need to downsize. Explain how this could look.

I may be screaming into cyberspace, but I hope not.

Angry Dumbo on March 10, 2010 at 3:25 PM

Glenn was wrong to say Michelle was right because she wasn’t! He must have forgotten what they both said before the interview happened.

She said Massa was going on GB’s show to cast himself as a hero against 0bamessiah’s corruption for the purpose of political self-preservation. Obviously, that’s not what happened. She even ended up admitting that the interview was useful, an outcome she wasn’t expecting. So, what was she right about?

Glenn said he had Massa on his show because he was interested in what he would say, and stated he wasn’t ignorant of the possibility that Massa might act like Blagovich and say nothing of substance. So, what was he wrong about?

What is the party leadership doing as a whole doing to show that they get it? Clue, they don’t, they’re still on lets make it a Big Tent.

New nickname for Rahmbo: The DC Dangler?

There was never an issue there between the two. God bless them both, two true independent voices willing to hold both parties accountable.

I agree that both sides are at fault, but disagree that one side is not better than the other. There are more limited government Republicans than there are limited government Democrats evidenced by the vote on the Stimulus (porkulus as it is known in these parts). If we say both sides are at fault, then there will be no change. There must be a massive restructuring in DC. EVERY Democrat deserves to lose based on their stimulus vote alone. Republicans gave us the prescription drug benefit – nearly 19 trillion in unfunded liabilities according to the US debt clock – more than Social Security. I have NO love for Republicans.

Wipe out Democrats in 2010 – make Obama powerless and expose his power grabs as executive overreach.

2012 we can close the big tent and elect conservatives who make specific promises on spending cuts.

Two steps, the second is dependent on the first. Wresting control from the Big Tent Rockefeller Republicans before 2012 (no more primaries where our choice is limited to McCains/Romneys/Huckabees) requires a show of strength in 2010.

Glenn’s a good man and he was right to admit he was wrong. I feel bad for him, but it’s a lesson learned.

Beck’s Achille’s heel is that he is not sufficiently skeptical of outlandish-sounding claims. For example, he dabbled in conspiracy talk with the FEMA concentration camp thing and hosted a “survivalist” episode where he had a whole panel of guests on to discuss scenarios under which all law & order would dissolve in the country. The Massa interview is another such incident.

It breaks my heart because Beck actually does great work, original “muckraking” research (e.g., Van Jones), and brings a really unique perspective to the airwaves. But he undermines his credibility and all his hard work every time he “bites” at these outlandish claims and conspiracy theories.

I just ask myself: why? My instinct is to say it’s Beck’s lack of a formal education. He just doesn’t seem to have the critical thinking skills needed to not “fall” for this kind of off-the-wall crap. I hope he improves on that–for all our sakes.

Well done Michelle, the high road is always the best road.

Several years ago I said our Founding Fathers would have been proud to have Michelle in their camp. I still believe that today and am pretty certain that Ronald Reagan would be proud as well. After more than a decade of reading Michelle’s work it is great to be reminded that she is a true blue American. Kind hearted, gracious, forgiving, well informed, patriotic. I could go on and on.

Beck’s back to being OK in my book. I tell you, Rahm needs to send Beck a thank you card for exposing Massa. Errr, you know what I mean.

That’ll teach him to question Malkin’s judgment!

I’ve done it once and only once. She has a gift for knowing when dudes are up to something. I mean she is down right uncanny.

MirCat on March 10, 2010 at 6:36 PM

I’ve been criticizing Beck a lot, so I’m back to give him full credit for manning up and hopefully learning a lesson that can make him more effective and more credible.

Good enough. Beck did good.

Massa is a mass horror.

Beck displayed something that few contemporary Americans have or understand – humility. DD
