All apologies: State Dep’t spokesman sorry for implying that Qaddafi’s insane UN speech was insane
posted at 10:09 pm on March 10, 2010 by Allahpundit
Via Weasel Zippers, the apology tour continues. In a way, this one makes perfect sense: Once you’ve decided to engage a lunatic diplomatically (and that was Bush’s decision in this case), what choice do you have but to be diplomatic about his lunacy? If pretending that his deranged UN shpiel wasn’t deranged keeps him from building nukes or paying suicide bombers, hey.
The question is, does it?
“I understand that my personal comments were perceived as a personal attack,” Crowley told reporters. “The comments do not reflect U.S. policy and were not intended to offend. I apologize if they were taken that way. I regret that my comments have become an obstacle to further progress in our bilateral relationship.”…
He made the remark in question on Feb. 26 when he was asked what the U.S. thought of Gadhafi’s appeal for “jihad” against Switzerland after the country banned construction of new mosque minarets. Crowley said he was reminded of Gadhafi’s lengthy speech at the United Nations last September in which the Libyan leader ripped pages from the U.N. Charter.
“I saw that report and it just brought me back to a day in September, one of the more memorable sessions of the U.N. General Assembly that I can recall: lots of words and lots of papers flying all over the place, not necessarily a lot of sense,” he said…
Crowley said Tuesday his comments “should have focused solely on our concern about the term ‘jihad,’ which has since been clarified by the Libyan government.”
No, it wasn’t “clarified” by the Libyan government. It was whitewashed once the UN and U.S. raised a stink about it. According to the Libyan ambassador, all Qaddafi meant by “jihad” was economic sanctions. Really? His exact words:
The Libyan leader made his comments while speaking at a meeting in Benghazi to mark the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.
“Let us wage jihad against Switzerland, Zionism and foreign aggression,” he said.
“Any Muslim in any part of the world who works with Switzerland is an apostate, is against Muhammad, God and the Koran.”
If you’re unfamiliar with the punishment for apostasy in Islam, spend a few minutes googling it. Here’s a hint: It involves something slightly more draconian than fines and boycotts.
Crowley and another U.S. diplomat met with Libya’s ambassador privately last week to try to defuse the situation, but no dice. Qaddafi wanted a public apology, so a public apology is what he got. Imagine what his next call for holy war might have been like had his American ally disappointed him. Exit quotation from the Journal: “It’s good to know that if the U.S. abases itself enough, Col. Gadhafi is willing to forgive.”

Jeez, no wonder our reputation as a country is falling like a 20 pound lead weight in water. America has always been a reliable force for freedom loving countries that could be trusted. Now we have a progressive limp di*k that wants to destroy everything this country has stood for.
Biggest mistake this country has ever made!

C’mon! Where has our country gone when the pizzant little weasel of a dictator starts telling US
how to respond to Isreal? Prezident Azzclown wants us to tell Isreal, “Pound sand?”
Thanks Mr. Vice-President, Mrs. Speaker and Mr. Leader, well done! Y’all have succeeded in setting back middle-eastern relations back about, oh, say 20 years.
I think Isreal is showing very calculated restraint. Thank goodness I’m not an Israeli national! If I were (I’m a Christian Conservative), I would basically give the universal middle finger salute to Mr. Obama.
You go Isreal!!!!! Shalom!!!! From a true-blue Christian conservative!

Jorge Boosh got a little deranged when he was on his “nation-building” kick, and playing kissy-face with Qaddafi is just an example of that. It’s one case where he definitely left a mess for Osama Obama to clean up.
Unfortunately, it is also an area where the Chicago Jesus is, if anything, hellbent on making things even worse by selling out to any two-bit America-hater he can find, particularly if they are from the Middle East or Africa.
We could have survived Bush’s mistakes, harshly as history would (rightly) have judged him for them. But they pale in comparison to the disasters we face under the current regime.

O/T but you reminded me… Did anyone see Glenn Beck tonight? Did you know that the famous old “patriotic” song “This Land is Your Land” was written by a communist, Woody Guthrie?

In fact in verses most of us have never heard, the propaganda is quite clear:

Sorry “LSD high by proxy”. I’m tired. Sorry all’s.
Rightwingguy on March 10, 2010 at 11:16 PM
I didn’t see Beck tonight but do have some recollections of the additional 2 property rights verses of Woody Guthrie’s
“This land is your land” I may have had the CD home from the library and read the jacket IDK. It didn’t hit me til then that the “this land is YOUR land, this land is MY land” while usually visualizing it as “we share this beautiful country/world” could actually be visualized as a fight between property owners/businesses and non property owners.

Gadhafi’s son, Seif al-Islam, holding a doctorate from LSE, has been trying to reinvent Libya. His dream is to turn Libya into another Dubai. 20 years in isolation, Libya needed new technology, expertise and capital for its oil industry. Libya is one of the last great oil basins in the world with Africa’s largest oil deposits. On Dec. 19, 2003, the eve of the 15th anniversary of the Pan Am 103 explosion, Gadhafi surprised the world when he announced his decision to abandon WMD. This move was initiated by Seif. Washington got a ‘win; and Tripoli was freed of the Iran-Libya Sanctions Act. A who’s who of western oil companies rushed back in, with Occidental regaining the old fields it was first awarded in 1956. Exxon, Amerada, Chevron/Texaco and other giants were granted exploration concessions. Money began pouring into Libya. Things were looking up for Seif.
Apparently old habits dating to the conquest by arabs under the rule of Caliph Umar in the 7th century die hard. Now a spat about minarets and such has put the huge investments of the western oil industry in peril. The National Oll Company is now suggesting that they should consider more oil concessions to the Russians and Chinese, and a weak, humbled administration is bowing to yet another arab dictator instead of developing our own reserves.
Indeed, old habits die hard.

Fortunately our muslim overlords have been somewhat placated by our dhimmi leaders’ humiliating and self-deprecating apology, but it doesn’t go far enough.
We must achieve complete submission and subservience by conversion to Islam or gleefully accept subjugation to muslim rule and only then would we escape the doom of the apostate infidel state of Switzerland which has rebelled (as we all have) against their creator, Allah.
A terrible fate awaits them and the might of the great and vast muslim armies will mete out Allah’s wrath on the wretched unbelievers as it has done for centuries and does so now against Christians in Africa, Iraq and unbelievers around the globe.
These things are never spoken of, for it is haram/forbidden to speak of holy war (jihad) and we dare not wish to offend or displease our muslim masters who derive their infinite wisdom and inspiration from the divine pedophile-warlord prophet, Mohammad. Islam is the light, we shall all be submitters one day, it is just a matter of time, god has ordained it.
Allah Akbar, may his Shadow fall upon you.

Anyone recall the old joke about diplomacy being the art of telling someone “Go to hell!” in such a way that they look forward to the trip? Skilled diplomats should be able to call crazy leaders crazy in such a way that everyone else nods their head in agreement while the crazy man thinks you’ve merely highlighted a few eccentricities.

Our Apologist-in-Chief has effectively moved the global-war-on-terrorism clock back to 1801, when the Tripoli hostage extortion racket led to Jefferson’s Tripolitan War.
Having successfully extorted millions for prison-raped and tortured EU nurse hostages, Kaddafi has turned to taking a Swiss citizen hostage for jizya extortion demands.
The Swiss were considering military action to free the Swiss hostage which would invoke the NATO charter… anyone imagine our Apologist-in-Chief will step up?
